    I feel like we're living in a sort of golden age of third party lenses these days. Both Tamron and Sigma have stepped up their game massively in the last 10 years or so. So many good ones to choose from!

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I totally agree! It's super fun getting to try these out and seeing how far 3rd party lenses have come 🥳

    • @lensman5762
      @lensman5762 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This may be but, their prices are now comparable and in case of some of the the Sigma offerings equal to that of the camera manufacturers offerings.

    • @Audimann
      @Audimann 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe a crazy idea but what about making third party camera bodies? This concept feels very strange but Fujifilm did it with the S3 and S5 pro. They had a Nikon mount. Still have the S3 and use it now and then.

    • @semahj

      Toni ! Sigma did

    • @lensman5762
      @lensman5762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Audimann The cameras were more than a mount borrowed from Nikon. Early Fujis borrowed a lot from Nikon. The Bodies were almost an exact copy of Nikons or were Nikon bodies, even the position of the AF focus assist light and the AF/MF switch were exactly the same Nikon D100/200.

    YES!!! I've been waiting for this review for almost a month 😭 thank you!!
    I loved what you said about the "run off" on the face with other portrait prime lenses; I never thought about it until you mentioned it. I suppose that is the difference between a 1.8 and a 2.8. GREAT REVIEW!! Thanks again guys!!

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yay thank you so much!! Glad you liked it :D Yeah I generally like the 1.2 look for portraits, but it's definitely nice to change it up a little to 2.8 to have the whole face in focus. Both ways looks great so I should do it more often haha

    I have the Tamron zoom trio. I think both the 70-180 and 17-28 are even better than the 28-75 in their respective classes. These lenses make owning a Sony FF so much more accessible for the rest of us. 👍

    I remember when I first heard about this lens coming out I was so excited for it!! but then covid happened, and the marching band and color guard events I was shooting stopped for most of the year....so I didn't buy it. But now that things are finally opening up again I decided to go back and do some research on this lens and I'm glad to see it did well last year. I can't wait to get it and start using it. Thanks for doing this review. I also liked watching how you did your shoot.

    Hi Julia, as always I love your work! I like the versatility of the lens for changes in group size, or changing composition without moving back or forward. I am at that point now though where I am not adding to my arsenal for a while. My fave pic was the first bokeh shot at 180mm without all of the negative space at the top. BTW the Chicago invitation still stands! Remember, in this scenario YOU are the model! lol See you next week!

With someone as awesome as you at reviewing products I would love to hear your take on the up and coming dayflash app! It would be so awesome to see you make a video about that. Julia, great video, it covers all the basis to know the differences within the range of this kind f zoom, irregardless of the brand, I was surprised that you had to step back so far to be able to get a full body shot , so, for events with limited space, probably primes on the range from 35 to 85 would be better based on your demo. Keep up the good work, we are learning from your experience and that can translate in less frustration in choosing our gear (not to mention less money if you end buying something that would not be useful)....cheers

    This is definitely a superb lens for this kind of work. As an approx 2.3X lens distortion should be minimal for a zoom too and you can see that in the photos. I think Tamron is doing some really good lenses for Sony as Sony owns a significant chunk of Tamron. Tamron as a specialist lens creator certainly know their science and materials really well and these days are producing highly competitive lenses. I, personally would have no qualms about buying and using it.

After buying it I knew I had to watch your video to get your take on it. Totally agree with what you said. Have you ever shared your wedding work? I think you could start a separate channel dedicated to weddings only and it would gain traction.

    I like the look of the lens but was mostly gravitating to the shots at 180. Great video/review, as always!

      Thank you so much! And yeah me too, I think for me its because I normally use the 85 prime for portraits, 135 rarely but sometimes - so having 180 is such a different look!

    Julia, great video again 😍👍🏽. Thank you for introducing us to the lens. 🙏🏽 I like your videos very much and especially that you also record your LCD screen (I mean the videos shown at the bottom right). One question: have you color graded the videos or are they RAW. I love this look, especially the combination of the black top with the golden hair & skin. For example at 12:09 😍🙈

    What technique are you going for your retouching? D&B or frequency separation? :D

    Absolutely lovely images. This seems to be a great all around tele lens for portraits. I'd love to see a real life comparison between the Tamron 70-180mm and the Sony 70-200mm f4 G OSS... Most comparisons I have seen are between the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM lens and the Tamron which is logical because they are both f/2.8. However the price and weight of the Sony 70-200mm f/4 G and Tamron 70-180mm are pretty similar...
