    A lot of the issue people have with all doodles in general is that because of their rapid rise in popularity, many breeders use cruel methods to produce as many as possible as fast as possible without putting the necessary time and care into it.

      I don't know how it is in other states, but where I work in texas we see a ton of them since their rise in demand, and people here do not train them. They just get them because they're cute and people don't realize they can actually have really bad personalities. Had one the other day try to rip our hands off just for touching it. Owner was playing the "he won't bite you" card while we have his crazy dog in the back with a muzzle because we can't do anything with it. It bit 2 of us

    Groomers hate goldendoodles because most owners don't brush them since they "don't shed" so they're brought in severely matted. When they're so matted, they are required to be shaved down which pisses off the owner who didn't brush them enough in the first place. Please brush them like he does with Brody!!

    • @leigha2814
      @leigha2814 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      According to a friend I have that's a dog groomer, since doodles, golden or otherwise, are bred between dogs with incompatible coat types sometimes there's really no caring for the coat properly other than shaving it off(and depending on the mix &particular genetics of the dog, that can also result in spots of alopecia).
      There's nothing wrong with mutts, imo, there is something wrong with purpose breeding mutts for money while claiming they're magical super breeds.

      I was just coming to the comments to say this. And it’s not so much that we hate the doodle. It’s the entitled owners and the greeders we dislike the most. I like a well kept doodle.
      But the way they always try to be Eeyor when you get to the face is pretty annoying though

    • @gmunden1
      @gmunden1 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Exactly. That's why Brodie always looks immaculate. People want a long-haired dog or cat, but they don't want to put forth the work of daily maintenance. It disgusts me when I see people with similar dog types and they never bathe or groom the poor animal. Grooming takes time, and yes, it can be costly, but that's why people need to do responsible research before selecting any breed of dog or cat. Matting is painful to the animal and makes work difficult for the groomer.

    • @frigidowl6492
      @frigidowl6492 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It’s not always on the owner. My family has a labradoodle and we spent our first few years with him brushing him everyday only for him to inevitably get mats and need to be shaved. Now we just have him get regular puppy cuts since we can’t spend enough time on his coat each day to prevent him from getting mats.

    • @aymielovesherps2570
      @aymielovesherps2570 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@frigidowl6492 It's 100% okay to get the hair cuts on them anyways since there may not be enough time for brushing. BUT, they DO require that extra amount of brushing that shorter haired dogs do not require. However, since the dog cannot brush itself so it IS on the owner to do their research on exactly how much extra work that long haired dog will be. Certain spots on dogs do tend to matte easier like on their buttfluff or behind their ears but the more you know, the better you can brush them!

    • @raerohan4241
      @raerohan4241 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexw.7097 No, the main issue with Doodles is that the vast majority is backyard bred. This means that those who bred them did not select their parents for good health and temperament. There is a reason that Doodles have such a bad reputation among veteranarians and groomers - and it is not all because of bad owners. That is statistically impossible.
      Moreover, the breeders producing Doodles tend to be doing so in a puppy mill format. I would never buy a Doodle mix for these reasons. I may adopt depending on the individual dog.

    • @alexw.7097
      @alexw.7097 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raerohan4241 I did say "most," I absolutely agree though, the byb aspect is also definitely a factor in why doodles are generally disliked in the dog care community.
      However, I would also partly count "buying from bybs/puppy mills" as owners having no idea what they're doing.
      If you're going to bother spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on *buying* a puppy, the least they could do is vet their "breeders." Encouraging bybs and irresponsible breeding is one of the worst parts of breeds becoming popular, it's mostly the poor dogs that suffer in the end.

    People hate others that own golden doodles because they do not care about their maintenance. This gentleman right here is the right example on why some people deserve to own one. • @Alyia-ys4qj
      @Alyia-ys4qj ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Yes this is exactly is brody is one of the only golden doodles i have ever seen someone take proper care of with maintenance, training, and exercise. The rest are horribly matted and they cause so many incidents with other dogs because people don’t expect them to be high energy and intelligent like they didnt just breed a golden and a poodle. They buy them purely on looks and neglect them its sad

    • @Ali_D_Katt
      @Ali_D_Katt ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Then there are the fly by night opportunistic breeders who just want more puppies as quickly as possible so they are not breeding for health and longevity. They're just taking a poodle and some other dog and breeding them. Of course there are responsible breeders but even they cannot say with any certainly what traits they will end up with. Labradoodles, will they get the lab hip displagia or luxating patella. While poodles dont shed its hard to say as a puppy what their coat is going to end up being. They could end up with the Labrador coat which sheds like no tomorrow you don't know until you take them home. Personally, i think in the coming years we're going to see an lots of doodles in rescue because they didnt turn out how the owner envisioned. Hell, we may already be seeing it. Over the last few years i haven't been as tuned into the rescue world as i usually have been. They are kind of a genetic roulette as far as what you're going to get. You can breed the same golden and the same poodle and end up with a dog that got both dogs negative traits and temperament or one that is perfect. That is why I'm still not sold on them. It has nothing to do with them needing to be bred with a purpose but, bred with no consideration.
      Then you have the question of course how second and third generaions will be classified?

    • @devinxoxo8350
      @devinxoxo8350 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@Ali_D_Katt thank you, I get this guys loves his dog but he completely addressed this wrong. The standard about ethical breeding is “dogs should only be bred for the betterment of the breed”. It’s not just about them having a job it’s about them being healthier and living longer, happier lives. A lot of these people want mixes because they’re cute meanwhile you’re breeding health and behavioral issues into the dogs and on top of that they don’t know how to properly care for them which is what many owners of doodles do.

    • @Ali_D_Katt
      @Ali_D_Katt ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@devinxoxo8350 he does take fantastic care of his dog but even his point about just wanting a snuggly, loving, companion animal is a moot point. Since they can't breed them with any certainty about temperament. Will their temperament of the higher energy, higher latent intelligence (which can be trouble if not properly channeled/engaged/redirected), task oriented, goal motivated, higher pray driven poodles or the goofy, bouncy, never met a stranger, cool on the couch with the fam or in the bush hunting golden or lab who stay in the silly puppy phase longer than a poodle? No one can say. I just think he needs to be careful about promoting them as one thing for definitely sure.
      I have a half Black labradore retriever that I'm 99.9% certain is also half walker treeing coon hound. I love her very much her temperament is mostly lab but she has that damn houndy nose that gets her into trouble, a neurotic urge to bark, a proclivity to get on a scent and wander off, and due to her first year of life being on the streets doesn't love strangers. That's an erratic mix of traits lol luckily I was prepared for whatever but someone expecting lab only might not be.

    The main argument I've heard against Golden Doodles isn't about them "not having a purpose". It's because Golden Doodles are the poster child for backyard-bred dogs, since puppies can sell for so much. So you end up with an entire "breed" of dogs that have horrid health and/or temperament because they weren't bred with these things in mind - of course they're going to develop a reputation for being difficult dogs. You may not see it that way, but you got very, _very_ lucky with Brodie.

    • @batkat0
      @batkat0 ปีที่แล้ว +105

      Exactly. Plenty of breeds were bred to be companions and not ratters, herders, etc. The problem with doodles is, as you said, they're common byb and puppy mill dogs. Often they're a combo of a poodle and another high energy dog but they attract people who are more concerned with having a designer dog than a well trained dog who fits their lifestyle but maybe isn't trendy. Add that in with the poor breeding you get with bybs and it's a recipe for dogs that aren't exactly well behaved. I live near Lancaster, PA and the doodle craze has led to just so many mediocre experiences with them.

    Many animal workers (including myself) also add that golden doodles are NOTORIOUS for having bad behavior issues if the dog isn't being social/ worked with/ spent time with for a good amount of time daily. Doodles are velcro dogs that neeeed human interaction throughout the day. DO NOT get a Doodle if you will be gone most of the day or they will be alone a lot. THIS WHY THEY AMAZING SERVICE DOGS!!!
    If you want a more independent crate-em- and leave-em dog, a doodle is not for you.

    It’s nothing to take personally- the problem is just the fact that with the dog comes many issues. The backyard breeding, and the misconceptions. They aren’t hypoallergenic. You take a shedding dog and mix it with a curly hair coated dog, the dander and stuff is still there. And also breeding a short haired shedding coat with a curly hair coated dog is a matter disaster waiting to happen 😭 and it makes it even worse because a lot of people who don’t know these things adopt these doodle breeds because they’re cute and stuff, and they end up matted, or badly behaved because people can’t seem to get that it’s still has the temperaments of retrievers and poodles they need to accommodate for. I work with dogs and so many of the “doodle” breeds are so misbehaved because people just buy their cute lil doodle dogs and just don’t put in the work… if you can put in the work of brushing your dog regularly and give basic training AND get your dog from a credible breeder there is no problem with having a doodle breed.
    But in the end all of that goes with any dog breed but it’s even worse because of how insanely popular doodles are right now. It’s so sad to see how these dogs are ending up because I’ve met a ton of sweet doodles who are super sweet but their coat is tremendous, or their coat is fantastic but they are so bad 😭 it’s so sad… this is all coming from personal experience working with them every day. (I work at a dog daycare, with groomers and it’s really sad seeing this stuff- these poor dogs 😕)
    I just ranted so I don’t even know if what I said made sense lol aw well. Hope it did.

      We normally just shave our doodle because he enjoy’s have little journeys into our creek and pool so he needs brushing consistent brushing when we grow out his fur in like November and December. He is also very protective of his toys and he has a habit of biting kids (btw we never knew it was a problem because he like never shows aggression) so I’ve been training him almost everyday in just general training, sit, stay, heel, paw, lay down, and leave it, but I’ve also been just doing some minor agaility training and he’s done really well at it. I think golden doodles can be trained very well if the owner is willing to put that effort in, same goes for the brushing. (I’m just yapping lol)

    As a former dog day care worker no, doodles are the worst because they typically have a lot of energy and can be a bit stubborn because of their poodle half, it’s also because people mistakenly get a doodle thinking that they don’t shed, so when you put that all together you get a dog that is usually hyper doesn’t listen to you and matted. Breeding with purpose doesn’t preclude the purpose being companionship… the whole point of purebreds is that you are getting dogs with similar traits, so you know what to expect before getting to dog. That’s not the case for mixes, you could get the poodle half, the Golden half, and mix of both, or neither. So his own argument doesn’t make sense, you’d still go for a purebred that fits your lifestyle if you care about companionship and if you don’t care about the dog fitting your lifestyle then go to a rescue.

They're so loving, playful, and theyre hypoallergenic which we had to have bc my son has horrible allergies to any kind of animal fur. He doesn't react at all to our doodles which is amazing! They do require A LOT of care and attention to their coats...being brushed DAILY is an absolute must!! If you're willing to put in the the work to take care of their gorgeous coats then they're the best dogs ever! 💖

      Not all golden doodles are actually hypoallergenic. And it’s important to make that distinction so that people are well educated before buying one. Golden doodles need to acquire a specific gene and this doesn’t always happen. It also depends on how much they shed. Mixed breed dogs don’t have a “breed standard” so they can be anywhere in the range from golden retriever to poodle. I’m glad your family got wonderful companions, but remember to always share accurate info! :)

      @@rosesforleo I was referring to MY dogs. All dogs aren't loving and playful either but again I was referring to MY dogs. I think you read too much into my comment bc I wasn't trying to educate anyone on anything. I was just making a comment about my dogs from my perspective. It's been five months since I made this comment so I'm not sure what the video is even about but again I wasn't trying to educate anyone or get anyone to go out today and purchase a dog based on my comment so need to correct me. Every comment shouldn't be taken so seriously. It would be one thing if I was stating anyone with allergies def needs to buy a golden doodle but that's not what I said. Thanks tho. ;)

    My issue with doodles is twofold:
    1. Many doodles are backyard bred and have TERRIBLE temperaments
    2. People don’t train these said doodles, creating problem dogs

      Yes, completely agree!! I have a Tibetan Mastiff and thank goodness I socialized her & went through puppy obedience classes with her because we were off in the corner at the vet office waiting room and a guy came in with his golden doodle and it was hyper & rushed my dog!! He had no control over it. My dog stood there with a look of confusion, like what’s his problem??!! She loves meeting new animals and is always gentle, but I think a lot of gd owners don’t realize the importance of obedience training with them. Brodie is a good exception to what I usually see with doodles.

    I had a pure bred, papered Labradoodle from the time she was 3 mo's old til she passed at 15 yrs. Sassy went to work with me every day of her life (I was blessed to have an employer who loved dogs). She was the smartest most loyal dog I ever owned. It tore my guts out to lose her; it's been 4 yrs. now and I'm just starting to consider getting another dog. I don't want to compare a new dog to her because she was an exceptional fuzz buddy and it wouldn't be fair to a new pooch. If we cared about each other the way our dogs care about us WOW! what a MUCH nicer world it would be❤ To love and be loved is a very important purpose I'd say🤷‍♀️

      This guy should keep his opinion and Useless dog to himself. My Malinois and working line American bulldogs are the best companions in the world… and they’re not stupid, untrainable, and motivationless. These “companion dogs” are a weak castrated human experiment gone wrong

    My issue is that golden doodles are marketed as “hypoallergenic” dogs which they are absolutely 100% not, and their breeding much like other highly engineered dogs like flat face breeds actually have huge numbers of genetic and health problems, because of their engineered breeding, I would rather rescue a mutt from the humane society than get a doodle for those reasons alone.
