My 2 biggest tips, first is to not let the element dry out before cleaning. If its still wet from use then the scale will just peel off. Second is if it is hardened like that, heat up the unit and well its still hot, pour icy water on it. Will break the scale right off

Late to this video but I will add the following: I started using a Brita to filter my hard water. It takes less than ten minutes to wait for two rounds of filtered water to fill my very similar humidifier. AMAZING difference in buildup! Also, this will sound crazy but, after soaking with vinegar, I have blasted mine with water using my WaterPik! It helps loosen the crusty stuff! Thanks for the citric acid tip!

I have the exact same brand and the same thing happens. I use a strong vinegar (30%, not the regular distilled white) and water solution (50-50), and let it sit about 6-8 hours. Then using something like a spoon, the build up comes off of the heating element. Removing the build up from the other pieces is much easier as you demonstrated. Good luck!

I used coffee machine descaler and had pretty goood success on mine. Some of it will just not come off though. I also use tap water. I also put a fish that cleans the water of bacteria, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't help with the minerals. Also I thought mine looked bad, but after seeing your parents, I think mine is pretty good.

I have the exact same humidifier. I have hard water as well and am not willing to keep up with distilled water with as much as I use it for my allergies. Only once in the last year have I had a large amount of build up. It's my 1st humidifier so I did some research on how to keep it clean. This may be a bit overboard for some people but because of the fact that I use it almost every night but, I take it apart and let vinegar sit, covering the heating element for about 20 minutes and chips right off. However, the 1st time I cleaned it this way, I had to let it soak, scrub, soak again, scrub again. It was rough but I stay on top of it now so it doesnt get that bad.

See this is exactly my problem!!! I CANT seem to get the buildup off of the heating element!! I've tried vinegar so far and NOTHING. I laughed when I saw the flathead screwdriver because that's literally what I use. But I use it to try and break off the calcium buildup on the hearing element...Definitely not supposed to.. but I cant seem to get anything to work!! UGH

I’ve tried citric acid, it works sometimes for my humidifier but in my area we have really hard water. My device says it doesn’t need distilled water, I don’t want to store the massive amount of distilled it’d require. But citric isn’t working, I’m having to scrape and chip away at it even after it’s sat for two hrs like directions say, multiple sessions of citric acid and waiting two hrs. I’ve damaged some of the heating element trying to remove this crap and citric acid isn’t enough. And yes I do this multiple times a week to keep up with how bad it is so it’s not like I’m waiting two weeks like directions say, I’m doing it every few days and sometimes more because of how fast it starts to calcify

I gave up on these warm mist humidifiers. The only way to keep ahead of the game is to clean them every two days. However, that does get old after a while. So, I usually end up with caked-on deposits that never come off, even using a screwdriver. Vinegar or Citric Acid doesn't work on hard-crusted buildup (only the light build-up). Do not like the distilled water root, because I need 3 humidifiers and that would get expensive and tedious (going to grocery store) to keep one-gallon distilled water around. So, my only solution was to switch to Vaporizers. They are cheaper and I just buy new ones every 2-3 years. Don't have to worry about build-up anymore. You can just clean the vaporizer every few months. Much easier to maintain and lest expensive.

It would be easier to google the different types of humidifiers and the pros and cons of them because there are cold mist humidifiers and the warm mist humidifiers Pros of humidifiers
safe for families with young children and pets
      affordable and low electricity cost
      Cons of humidifiers
a filter that isn’t clean can contribute to mold growth
air that is too humid can actually trigger allergies and breed mold Pros of vaporizers
you can boost the vapor with an essential oil or inhalant
steam vapor is distilled, so it may have fewer contaminants
      Cons of vaporizers
hot water is not safe for use around children or pets
