Weekly cleaning is recommended to keep your Honeywell Top Fill Warm Mist Humidifier running efficiently.
Warm mist humidifiers can develop heavy mineral deposits on the heating element - also known as scale. This is common in hard water areas where more frequent cleaning may be required.
Before cleaning, turn off, unplug, and wait 20 minutes for the humidifier to cool before cleaning.
All maintenance should be done in the kitchen or bathroom on a water-resistant surface near a faucet.
Empty the Water Tank by pouring from the left side where the arrow indicates. Remove the Top Cover to access the removable components. Twist the Mist Chimney to the left, then pull straight up to remove.
To remove the Heating Element Cover, grasp red latch with two fingers, pull toward front of the humidifier and pull straight up to remove. Grasp the red Float Tab and pull straight up to remove. These components can be placed in the top rack of a dishwasher or included in the cleaning process below.
Next, follow these separate steps for scale removal and disinfecting. Both steps are important and must be performed separately.
Pour 3-4 cups of undiluted white vinegar into the Water Tank where it will drain into the Boiling Chamber and cover the Heating Element. Let it soak for 20 minutes to loosen the mineral deposits on the heating element.
When the heating element is covered in mineral deposits, also known as scale, it is unable to function efficiently and may prevent the humidifier from producing steam.
Replace the internal components if not cleaning in a dishwasher. If Components were added to soak, remove them for access to the heating element.
Wet the bristles of a soft brush with vinegar and gently scrub the heating element to remove mineral deposits, also known as scale. Empty the Reservoir by pouring the vinegar from the left side where the arrow indicates. Pour 4 cups of water into the Reservoir, lightly swish and pour out. Repeat until the smell of vinegar is gone.
Use gloves while performing the disinfecting process. Add one half teaspoon of bleach to one half gallon of water and pour the solution into the Reservoir. Wipe the inside surfaces of the Reservoir with the bleach solution. Soak for twenty minutes.
Empty the Reservoir by pouring the bleach solution out the left side where the arrow indicates. Pour 3 cups of water into the Reservoir, lightly swish and pour out. Repeat until the smell of bleach is gone.
To reassemble, replace the Water Level Float by positioning the red tab in the channel guides and push to secure. Attach the Mist Chimney to the Heating Element Cover and twist to the right to snap in place.
Replace the Chimney and Heating Element Cover and press firmly to secure. Replace the Top Cover
    and press firmly to secure.

I wish Honeywell would design a completely flat heating element. Yes, the diameter will have to be larger but it will be so much easier to de-scale.

It’s not that bad. Just let it soak longer. I used a medium bristle tooth brush. Took me about 5 minutes to get all the scale removed

@@jimmy5634 I've been using Honeywells for a decade. Yes, I l soak the humidifier in vinegar for several hours to descale. Could never clean the bottom of the heating element completely. Still, a flat heating element would be an advancement.

I love this humidifier guys, just bought a new one. I had the older model for a few years, until the heating element got so damaged that it leaked into the electronics below it and damaged it...but it's really a great humidifier. Most important thing is we do not have to keep changing very expensive filters (have one of your other humidifiers that need an E filter, along with a protec which is so expensive - costs as much as a new humidifier to operate it in winter).
Question: always had an issue with cleaning the heating element, it's such a hassle frankly. Water is not that hard here in Quebec i think, but still I have accumulations. I know you show cleaning it with a soft brush, but isn't there some other sort of tool one can use that make it easier? It's extremely hard to reach the lower part of the heating element especially with a brush...

    • @honeywellpluggedin9834
      @honeywellpluggedin9834  ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Antonio. Thank you for your inquiry. We can only advise using a soft brush, such as a toothbrush, to gently scrub the surface of the heating element. However, we may recommend using distilled or filtered water with your humidifier to reduce scale buildup. If you require any additional assistance, please reach out to us by emailing SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com.

Do you guys refurbish and repackage them for sale at retailers? I got one of these of a similar model a few months ago. And when I opened it there was like a hockey puck shaped chunk on top of the heating element. And because of the shape I thought it was supposed to be part of it. But the more I used it, the more the chunk started breaking down until it started to crack. Then I started get the reset light a lot. The manual to troubleshoot didn't show a lot of detail. It wasn't till I watched this video that I realized there was something wrong. Some how it came with a huge chunk of minerals on it already. The box wasn't one that was returned cause it wasn't resealed.

Ours had the same problem. I think they may test it with tap water at the factory causing the chunk to develop. The water in China may not be the best to begin with, let alone for testing the unit. We use distilled water only. No problems after switching.

The following link has video instructions on how to clean your humidifier: th-cam.com/video/rMMS8Ge8fmc/w-d-xo.html Also, please note, if you have a lot of mineral buildup on the heating element you can soak it with vinegar longer, such as several hours or over night. This will help to loosen any mineral build up. You may then gently scrub the heating element with a soft brush to remove the mineral deposits. We hope this is helpful.
