  • Here are 3 forehand tips that I implemented in my game to eliminate wobble, hit more gaps/tunnels, and produce an overall straighter flight.
I am a forehand and overhand specialist. These things not only allow me to be more accurate, but they also allow me to work shots left, right, and straight more consistently than a lot of my competitors on tour. With that said…….many of them dont need to because they have a backhand 😅

Nice video! Would love a tutorial on your overhand, tips, disc selection etc… it’s not a throw for everyone to throw all the time, but definitely a shot that is good to know!

2:44 As a forehand talented thrower, this is something i've been relying on for a long time. i'm really glad to hear you say it, it's not a commonly shared idea / opinion

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, I am always in my head about how I could be doing things differently and wonder what others think. I really liked your last tip about throwing a lower speed disc but increasing your throwing power! This totally makes sense, as the turn takes place in the faster part of the flight and then it fades only after it slows down enough. I also appreciate how you described off-axis torque because I didn't know what it was but now I know what it is and how to fix it!

Hey Jake - great video! I saw you in a couple recent events, and I think there's a lot of questions that audiences and pro commentators might want to know about you. From your focus on forehand and overhand throws, and why you throw no backhands, to what type of injuries you're dealing with, and your plan for dealing with them in the future (surgery, rehab, etc). I think if you made a video that talked about a lot of those things, and maybe others, it'll drive some views to your channel, and allow you to reach audiences more. It sounds like you have a unique story, similar to Chandler Kramer, that you might want to share. And maybe you do throw backhand, but it's not tournament-ready. Disc golf fans who follow the pro tour and other post-produced tournaments would probably love to know. 🙂

For me, the one-finger forehand eliminates wobble. I don't like calling it "one finger" because in reality I use two (plus my thumb), but that's what everyone calls it so whatever. It's self-taught so I don't know if others throw like I do or not. My middle finger goes on the inside of the rim and I try to get as much friction as I can with it. It provides the spin on the disc. The index finger I extend toward the center of the disc. This keeps the disc on the plane of my choosing and I think it's the key to eliminating wobble. I grip the disc with my thumb, holding it as tight as I can between my thumb and the part of my hand between thumb and index finger. My forehands never wobble.

I'm glad I've been trying to do the right thing with a forehand and using hyzer angles to help, but for some reason my forehand is even more terrible when I try hyzer and it just instantly turns into the ground.

After watching you at the Music City Open, I want to throw more forehand and tomahawk! 😁
Do you go for overstable or understand discs?
