The stomach sack is actually pretty tough skin so we will just stick the hook 2x through the stomach skin and the hooks stay on pretty good. Only use fresh gut bags. Within. 24 hours or I guess you could freeze em. Cod tails also catch a lot of halibut.
When we commercial halibut fish are set system is different instead of a wheel we have an O ring in the center back of the boat and a metal ring where the main boom is hanging down and the line feeds out to the back of the boat and that's where me and my brother work at I give my brother the hooks and my brother puts them on the line ( kinda scary situation when clipping the hooks on because you dont know when a hook is gonna get latched on the table), but my uncle has a long experience of both halibut and salmon commercially and it's mostly a family business with my brother and my cousins. I first started with halibut fishing during 2017 and I'm still doing it, gotta admit it's quite a work out cleaning, gaffing, and carrying rocks( ground anchors), and unclipping snaps this last summer I got my hands all achy from repeated unsnapping the gangions but that didn't stop me from doing my job. We fished around Alitak most of the summer pretty slow though and alot of skates and bullheads I tell you.
That sounds like a good time. Yah we’re mostly all family also with my dad in the wheelhouse. I’ve been salmon fishing for 15 years and halibut around 11. Had a lot of fun and some hard work!
I Eradicate Wild Hogs for golf courses at night and work 8-noon cutting fish and retailing all kinds of Seafood here in Central.Florida and Halibut is very sought after by the Snowbirds and locals we have a list each week we cater to people who have standing orders..Excellent Table Fare ..🍽🔪👍
@@dustysageroutdoors ...👍👍..it's a great fish to devour at a Fish Fry ..In this Gulf coast area,, we Do our Grouper-Snapper-Snook-Redfish-Speckled trout..etc...that being said,,I grab up the no-shows for Halibut after the orders are filled...👍🔪🍽
Great video! Every boat has its own system that makes it a well oiled machine. Thanks for the feedback on my TH-cam halibut videos. Nice work guys. Looks like a good group to work with.

That sounds like a lot of effort. Maybe!

Yea we eat a ton of halibut at our household. Can’t beat halibut and chips!
I hunt hogs in Oklahoma. Probably my favorite thing to hunt and eat. Love that stuff on the traeger.
