I'm not against commercial fishing, but when I go salmon fishing, I have to use barbless hooks. I can't keep anything under 24 inches. I can only keep hatchery fish and I have to release the natives. I am limited to 1 or 2 per day. The season is incredibly short. I usually book my trip but half the time I have to cancel it because the season abruptly ends before I can go fishing. I have to get up at 4am and take a 1.5 hour boat ride to the fishing spot, and then spend most of the day throwing back the native salmon I catch and watching them get devoured by the sea lions immediately. @@TheBarbarella76 No. The majority of sports fishing for salmon is done in the ocean. Once the salmon enters a river to go spawning they don't eat anymore. They might bite because the bait or the lure gets on there nerves. But it's difficult to hook them in rivers.

The automatic net fishing line is truly amazing and only skilled workers can keep up with the pace. If you watch the whole video there are hardly any fish thrown back, maybe 2 or 3 I saw. The work is being done at a fast pace, so they take a lot of fish, but if they are within regulations as to species, quota or total allowable catch, and season they are working within conservation guidelines.

The fishing company 'owns' or leases annual fishing quota from the Government, and the tonnes that you 'own' on paper, you are permitted to catch for that year. If you catch excess, or a non-targeted species (by-catch)..... you can dig a great financial hole for yourself, and your employers (the fishing company). The ship, skipper and crew can be arrested, the catch forfeited and court appearances, with loss of marine licenses. Needless to say, this doesn't happen with the fishing companies, who prefer to keep their boats and staff. The main problem in my country is enthusiastic amateurs (well let say it how it is.... crooks) going out and pillaging the resource, outside the laws. And it is mainly unseen, but a lot of it happens. There are too many unscrupulous 'buyers' out there, who make it lucrative, for the illegal fishermen.

You don't seem to know the difference between explored and exploited. That's deep sea exploration. The oceans metals, resources, mountains have not been explored much. But fish have been over exploited and caught, so much so that 90% of larger fish are gone!
Large scale Trot lining system (Paragatte in some other languages) is the safest way of fishing it is basically line fishing done with 2000-3000 plus hooks tied 1-2 metres apart. Its dropped to the bottom of the sea bed with weights to keep the line at the bottom. The line is retrieved after a certain time and any untargeted or no commercial value fish like Rays etc are released back to the sea immediately. Absolutely Zero harm done to any species and to the environment
most countries / territories have commercial fishing quota systems (weight per species, per annum or season), by-catch penalties, and a heap of compliance. Get something wrong, have slack records, and you are in deep trouble. Huge fines, boat seizures by the Government etc. There are very definitely limits for commercial fishermen, and the companies employing them. There are a few "pirates" from mainly third world countries, out there on the high seas. Most compliance orientated seafaring nations navy's stop and search these boats anyway for inspections.... and enforcement including arrests of the skipper, crew and the boat, if they are in breach of the laws in that territory. This 'high seas' enforcement is ongoing.

Modern technology makes fishing easier and more effective, so it is positive for the customers’ prices of fish meat. If you belong to eco-alarmists, you don‘t have to eat fish.

Nothing like overfishing exist - fishermen only respond the consumers’ demand for fish (that is truly high) and they have still good catches, so there are enough fish stocks in the ocean. If fishing was restricted more, it would only harm both fishermen and consumers without reason.
Ya gotta figure fish lay hundreds to hundreds of thousands of eggs, humans way way out populate them so you may say over fishing is bad, which it kinda is, but also figure this, the more the humans take the less the predators have so the predators die off, leaving more fish for us
