I love your long lining. I did a fair bit of it in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada. We fished just South of the Alaska border. I worked on First Nations Reserves and they took me out with them where I got to go out fishing with David Suzuki. So seeing these videos that you produce bring back memories. Awesome job guys!

I myself gave up drinking when my wife of 47 years got married, on our wedding day I told her as soon as she got pregnant I would stop drinking I WAS a heavy DRINKER, when I stopped I dedicated my life to her and the family and still do to this day. Haha, noticed that huh? Ah well, setting is kind of a one man job anyway. I have my timing down as far as spacing, another person in the mix mostly just stands there. It is great having them onboard during hauling though, one pins hooks and the other can be the camera person. Cheers, longlowdog.

Great talk about the clip hooks and handling catch at the rail. Y'all are spot on, and great stewards. Hard watching that much line come in with empty hooks, at least you had some redemption at the end. Maybe sat just enough deeper?

Nice long video 👍 Could have been worse ive seen days on a factory longliner and caught less.. our target is cod but some days it’s all by catch 😅 a cod here and there shoot sometimes we even strike out and do a set for nothing lol done lots of steaming around the Bering but most of the days where we are busy till the end of the day that’s why it’s fishing not catching 😅
Oh yeah we know that story Ak, horrible feeling getting 1 or 2 fish for a set. We've had blank sets before as well, they make you fall asleep, lol. Can only imagine how boring on a set of that scale. Good fishing and thanks for watching.

Thanks Brandon, we appreciate the feedback. At some point we would like to be able to sell our crab online. We will know mid-November if we have a Tanner crab fishery next January. If so we will try to get one of the plants to custom-process our catch. That is also on the horizon for dungies next year.
Hi Tadeu. We soak our gear for about 6 hours. We set in the morning at daybreak and haul in the evening and get the gear in before dark to avoid damage to fish by sand fleas. This video is one day of fishing.
He is measuring the halibut to ensure they are legal to keep. We have a minimum size limit of 32". Anything under must be returned to the water immediately. halibut is delicious. Mild and sweet it is perfect in just about any dish.
We do sell them in our store, but so far we haven't caught any legal sized ling this season. The season runs from July 1 to Dec 31 and minimum size is 35" overall.

You can keep them for personal use when you are commercial fishing, except that poundage is deducted from your quota along with the rest of your catch on that trip. We are also able to subsistence fish for halibut in our community so that is the best route.
Do you sell it like in a variety, of assortments, like several diferent kinds in marked packs,? I like to try the red, snappers, last time I went deep sea fishing on party boat, someone got all my fish, I caught the limit, and didn't get nit one of them. But I like to try some, halibut, and other kinds to see which I like best.

Do you have a head or the ole five gal bucket? And also, do you ever overnight? That cabin seems tight. Also do you fish spot prawns there? Mahalo.
Hi Adam. We have a head w/ toilet. Been on a few bucket rides when I was younger though. We do overnight, I think the longest was when we were salmon fishing. Close to a month as we were delivering to a tender. For halibut and rockfish maybe five days at most. The cabin seems small, but it is actually pretty comfortable. Large bunks and it's cozy in the winter with the oil stove. The tophouse really helps create a lot of space and makes traveling nice away from the engine noise. We don't fish prawns, but it is something we are looking into. There are a few around Kodiak, but not as many like SE and PWS.
I'm coming to Alaska nexted year for the salmon season, and I was wondering if you know of any fishing boat looking for a deck hand. I would love nothing more than to come to Alaska and go fishing. Fishing is my life I've been fishing for most of my life and it's always been a dream to come to Alaska and work bested some of the best in the world.

Out of everything you catch which pays you the best, Tanner crabs, cod, halibut, ect?
Probably cod and rockfish, because the expenses are so low.
What's he checking the fish for? I see he puts the odd one back. Also what does halibut taste like?

Yes we do. We offer combination boxes when we have stock available for all species. Should have some available again in early spring.

I notice you place each hook as the previous one reaches the surface of the water, what spacing does that provide?
Its about a 20' spacing in-between hooks.

About how many hook per set? I notice you usually run 3 sets at a time, is this normal or do you lay 4 or 5 sometimes?
