Excellent! You guys are definitely handy with the tools. Nice to see your father offering technical assistance and the whole family lending a hand. The conversion turned out splendidly. You and Mandy are going to enjoy the Bongo even more than you have in the past. You really put a lot of thought into the conversion. I especially like the driver and passenger swivel seats. Genius. Your power supply is indeed brilliant. Can't wait to see some of your adventures! Take care, friend.
Thanks Dwight it worked very well on the North Coast 500 and thats as good a test as anything. We bought a weeks worth of meat from our local butcher, put it in the fridge (Never used a mains supply) and it stayed fresh for five says, very impressed. As long as there is a journey between each nights stop it gives the leisure battery time to recharge. Thanks for watching bro :) Tim and Mandy
Thanks. Fantastic machines, can't believe they don't still make them. Saw one down at the lake where we live. Looked like a brand new vehicle and not at all dated. Going to be worth serious money one day.
Very nicely done Tim and Mandy! Some of the bolts that were hard to remove might have had thread locker on them. It comes in different grades and manufactures use the highest strength grades on seats and seatbelt hold downs so they can't come loose. Beautifully done, and you can take great pride in knowing you did it yourself. Not only that but you know it's been done right. Hope you have many wonderful adventures! Safe travels, Ossie
Hi Ossie sorry for the late reply we have just got back from Scotland, the wee van did 2000 miles! I never thought about the bolts being extra stiff because it's for the seat belts but that makes perfect sense! We had a great time doing up the van and we have met a lot of people on holiday that have paid a great deal of money for their vans (much bigger) but are not happy at all, so yes it feels good knowing the only person you have to blame for any rough work is yourself lol keep well my friend Tim and Mandy
Hi Tim and Mandy you have done a great job of the conversion and good to see you have your own technical advisor your dad. I am going to get one of those quick releases for my camping stove bottle. i like the swivel seat just wish i could afford a Bongo so i could do my own conversion as your looks so good. Take care Gillian
Hi Tim, exciting conversion and a real team effort. So much is embedded and has to come out. But you did it and some more. Fantastic end result. All the best there to you and Mandy out and about. Mark.
Mark sorry only just seen your comment was in the ?? part of youtube. Yeh these Bongo's are the poor mans VW Mark but we just done 2000 miles in it without an issue, thanks mate as always :) Tim
Tim, a brilliant job taking us through all the work to get your bongo ready for adventure. It must be pretty cool to know that it was your own work that made it into the wild beast it is today ;-) Love the seat reversal and the rock and roll bed, well hey :-) Great stuff :-)
Hi Gerry thanks for watching mate, it was a pleasure to do and fairly relaxing, the only reason it took as long to convert was saving up for the different parts, its just done over 2000 miles around Scotland with no issues, not bad for a 20 year old motor! :) Tim and Mandy
Wow. Nice convertion. A good choice of van. Very reliable and fuel efficient. Here in Phillipines we have lots of these vans. Mostly diesel engines since diesel ia much cheaper here than Petrol. Thanks for sharing . Very helpfull
Wow Tim what a video! It must have been good as I didn't understand a word of the technical stuff. I envy you your practical skills and dare not let my wife see this because she will be expecting me to perform some mechanical magic on our neglected vehicle ( a Ford Focus!). Take care and happy camping in the van, it looks brilliant.
Hi mike we have just got back fro doing the NC 500 was fantastic, every kind of weather conditions! The van did 2000 miles, although I did nurture it over the passes! Now for a wild camp and review of your wonderful book Tim and Mandy
nice finished job there...handy to have a joiner on the team haha, i like the way the bed works, shame its a bit narrow, but then again thats your choice so its not wrong, you got the vehicle how you want it and its nice to know that when you build something to your own design that no one else has the same, the gas spigot is available as a wall/surface mount which may help with the one handed bit you mentioned...all in all i like the look of it, cheers. dave
Thanks Dave yeh my Dad helped us with the cupboards, it was fitting the bed that required the most help (Very tight) Mandy wanted more cupboards and less bed width, must admit I was a bit dubious, will let you know how we got on, going away for 14 days in it YIPPEE! :) Tim
Thanks Peter we just spent the last two weeks up your neck of the woods, went past many a Munro you have climbed lol, we have taken the van on the NC 500 crazy weather but a great wee adventure Tim and Mandy
+MUNROSnCORBETTS you'd never get round it Peter, could you drive past a Munro without climbing it lol!!! Seriously it's a great way of doing it, buy a panelled van and slowly convert it, they say you make money when it comes to selling. I hope so as if we get in any trouble she will have to go.
A new subscriber here, I just watched your amazing trip around the highlands, and now I'm watching your great van conversion :) Thanks for sharing your adventures.. all the best, Paul (from Leeds) :)
You two have made a fantastic job of that bongo be proud, I'm looking for a bongo for my family to use as an over nighter, looked at the dubs but for the money compared to these it's a no brainer
Thanks Adam tell your folks we have just driven her on a 2000 mile trip over some very challenging passes in Scotland without so much as a blip from her :) Tim and Mandy
+savedpurplecat cheers for the reply, I meant for me the Mrs and kids lol the folks have a static but it's not my cuppa I like to see different places it's done now I'm on the hunt for a bongo I'll update as and when quick question who supplied the kitchdn
This is awesome Tim!! I've actually been hoping you would make this video. A lot of good work went into this I am sure. Man you guys are gonna have a grand time indeed. Many more adventures ahead I see. Good on ya
Oh I can't wait to finally get out! its been a busy year and the wild camping has taken a back seat (Boy have we missed it) Thanks for your very kind words, look forward to more of your superb films :) Tim and Mandy
looks great Tim and mandy ready for your adventures in Scotland. . so wish I was handy to do a conversion will get one, one of these day. have an awesome time sinc sends his love :)
Thanks Julie sorry for late reply just got back off our holiday, Vans are fairly easy to convert into campers the hardest part is getting the floor level once that's done it's pretty much plug and play, hope you and yours are well Tim and Mandy
Looks great Tim and Mandy, nice job. I've been looking at those New Dawn swivel seat conversions for a while, but couldn't work out if it utilized the existing seat or was a complete replacement, good to know now. Must say too this was a very well explained video especially of the electrical system, it can be bloody confusing trying to explain all that but you got it spot on. You are right about those single tube cabin lights, they aren't that great, if you can pick up the later model one with the u shaped tube they are much brighter and are an easy swap although they are around £45 second hand. I did the reverse and swapped my u shaped one for the single because my tube had blown and couldn't find just the bulb for sale anywhere and didn't wanna splash the cash for a whole light fitting when I only needed a bulb and could pick up the older model lamp with straight tube for around £12. Regret that now but I'm planning on using the original fitting and filling it with led strip lights as an experiment. Got the LED strip lights running under my high level cupboard as well as in all my cupboards and they work great. Anyway great vid, nice conversion and enjoy your travels. Atb Dave
Hi Dave, thanks for your comments. I was so impressed with yours and your trip to Bridge O Orchy that I knew it was the perfect all round cheap van. Gotto admit though I'm a little concerned about the engine (Had no problems) Got an alarm fitted on the water and am taking some Steel seal just in case. I tried the led strip lights which worked great and dimmed/changed to any colour but have since taken it out as it was a 240v one, could do with a 12v version. Hopefully doing the North Coast 500 so will be off line for a while (Hopefully) LOL could do with some advice on a couple of things at some point mate, take care :) Tim and Mandy
I wouldn't worry to much about the engine but yeah good move on the water alarm, good idea to have an occasional look at the hoses and also check the metal pipes under drivers side running to the rear heater, mine rusted out there. For 12V led strips, I got a 5 meter roll of 12 volt led strip off ebay for around £7 cut them up soldered wires to ends, which is a bit fiddly, and just wired them to a switch off a fused supply and they work great especially in the cupboards. Happy to assist with any questions you have bud. All the best on the North Coast 500, hope the weather is bearable. Atb Dave
Pull, don't push, when trying to move bolts. Use WD40 first to lubricate, give it a couple of minutes and it'll all be easier. Stable door and bolted horse I know, but for future viewers . . . Thanks for sharing 😊
Hi Tim and Mandy because of your camper van videos . made me want one so last week i bought a Vauxhall Vivaro i have bought the same kind of layout as you have done so if it looks like yours i will be happy . many thanks Kenny hope to see you around Fife Scotland
Hi Kenny sorry for the late reply we have just got back from Scotland doing NC 500. Great news about your camper mate! Will check out your adventures, you won't regret it buddy! Tim and Mandy
Hi Tim and Mandy hope you had a good holiday. i have got the van all ply lined and all covered with grey 2 way stretch lining . next week i get the floor done . :)
Absolutely wonderful! Loved what you've done there. Something me and wife are considering for our Bongo, still needed as an mpv at the moment because of the kids but in good time :-) Great video and happy adventures, I look forward to more. Take care. Matt
Thanks Matt sorry for late reply just got back from holiday in Scotland, we enjoyed doing up the Bongo wasn't hard just took long saving up for the bits and bobs Tim and Mandy
Hi Tim, thanks for the great videos. Just bought my first bongo and am preparing to do my own conversion over the winter. Your videos have been a great source of inspiration. Could I ask how you fixed the units to the side of the van and if you insulated the floor/sides of the van. Look forward to seeing some more videos from you and Mandy. Thank you for the great video, very helpful. I love how it all looks. I had a question how did you manage to fit the step onto additional floor build up?
I like it. I think you've done a great job. As long as you enjoy and it works for you then it works. I'm sure others would do things different and that is the great thing about doing the build yourself. It's what and how you want.
Hi Harry sorry for the late reply just got back from our holidays, took the van on the NC 500 was so much fun, hope you're well my friend Tim and Mandy
Looks the part , nice job , myself i'm a recent convert to the world of the Bongo . But I have a question to ask if you can help , was your conversion a DIY job or was it bought in kit form ? , if kit form can I ask where from . Appreciate your help , happy travels .
Good job people. Hey can I rent that van and bring it to Iceland? lol!! With 4x4 it is F1 road capable! When you pulled the bed out all the way I had to clap and smile!! Again, well done! capable f
At 12:56 you can see that the front passenger seat is turned 180 degrees. Can you tell me if in some video you can see in more detail the details of the seat reversal mechanism?
Thanks for the video, very informative. I noticed that you left the original interior panels in. Presumably the vehicle was insulated from new behind those panels. When it comes to attaching the cupboards to the vehicle, the bases can be attached to the wooden floor you installed but how did you secure the cupboards further up without drilling into the bodywork?
hi.I have a Bongo for 5 years .it constantly modifications .the main problem is corrosion of metal.had a bad experience churned a wild animal elk. had auto restore for almost a year.
Hi terry sorry for late reply just got back fro our holidays, lol your bivi would look really mean on some wheels, the very first rab dragster! Tim and Mandy
Steve the back box came undone on a 2000 mile run around Scotland, apart from that it worked very well, it's called a bakrak but they need to wield the joints better Tim and Mandy
It was from a small company in our town of Congleton and although the units were good, we had a bit of trouble with the suppliers, so I could recommend the units but sadly not the suppliers thanks for watching
good afternoon. good video, long look at your channel . I'm from Russia ,Siberia. could you show or draw a diagram of how to alter the seat left front in order to be able to rotate them. thank you in advance))
Wow Siberia!!!!! thats amazing, do you have a Bongo? How does it run? I will find out the company that does the seat for you, thanks for watching :) Tim
yikes. spray some penetrating oil in there. tighten the bolt back. then loosen a bit, then tighten. Eventually they will come but you seem like the impatient type.
Greg's Garage god if you thinks he's impatient - I would have lost my rag and given up. Having said that I'm a female who likes the idea of doing it yourself but don't actually want to do it 🤣
Excellent! You guys are definitely handy with the tools. Nice to see your father offering technical assistance and the whole family lending a hand. The conversion turned out splendidly. Hi mark thanks mate, we have just got back from doing the NC 500 in the van, will upload soon thanks Tim and Mandy
That mazda bongo was my first campervan enjoyed it
I love it!! the swivelling seat is a great idea and it looks so smart x
They are great Vikkie, give you a lot more room too :) Tim and Mandy
how difficult/easy was it to insure. I heard that self builds are hard to insure.
Here in the U.S., they are trying to outlaw tiny homes, van dwelling, and in some instances full-time RV living. It's a shame, really.
Okie Rider your gov seems to treat citizens like enemies or suspects more and more. Shame really.
I know. Our country is in social distress and turmoil.
Enjoy mate looks great. I need one of these for our adventures 👍
Thanks Bro looking forward indeed :) Tim
Nice one Tim. Looks fantastic and hope you both get out to try it soon. Atb Ray.
Thanks Ray sorry for late reply we have just got back off our Holidays in sunny Scotland lol Tim and Mandy
I think those troublesome bolts are for seatbelts/seat fastening which are torqued up to the max on all vehicles
Looks great Tim and Mandy, nice job. I've been looking at those New Dawn swivel seat conversions for a while, but couldn't work out if it utilized the existing seat or was a complete replacement, good to know now.

Hi Tim, thanks for the great videos. Just bought my first bongo and am preparing to do my own conversion over the winter. Your videos have been a great source of inspiration. Hi Harry sorry for the late reply just got back from our holidays, took the van on the NC 500 was so much fun, hope you're well my friend Tim and Mandy
You could make a base for the table so you could take it out and set it up outside.
thanks for sharing. : )
Thanks yes they do a base for that table, to be honest we've been eating off out knees lol Tim and Mandy
Looks the part , nice job , myself i'm a recent convert to the world of the Bongo . But I have a question to ask if you can help , was your conversion a DIY job or was it bought in kit form ? , if kit form can I ask where from . Appreciate your help , happy travels .

Thanks Paul we just got back from NC 500 Scotland and the van did great Tim and Mandy
great Job Guys
I know this is now quite an old video but I wondered if you remember where you got the flat back side conversion furniture from?
Interesting to know how much was spent for parts etc and where from? Duration would be useful too. Cheers
i love your concept!
Ta sam
Good job...love the swivel seat.....any reason why you left the seat belts at the back in ?
Thanks Buddy, taken seat belts out now lol forgot about them :) Tim

yikes. spray some penetrating oil in there. tighten the bolt back. then loosen a bit, then tighten. Eventually they will come but you seem like the impatient type.
Lol yeh you got me there!
Greg's Garage god if you thinks he's impatient - I would have lost my rag and given up. Having said that I'm a female who likes the idea of doing it yourself but don't actually want to do it 🤣
