@@HawaiiDetailing hey keep us posted and I’m the know. When are we going to get to see the 1st update video on this??? I’m on the edge of my seat over here!
I feel like DIY Restore & Protect is similar to Solution Finish, but with the protection built in. The black dye does great and the protection is a bonus.
PERL looks the best I think but like you said doesnt last. Usually washes off for me in like 2-3 rain storms. I think DIY looks best on the un polished plastic. Yvan said the more chalky the plastic is the better it will soak into it. I will probably try the DIY stuff after i use up my Solution Finish
None of these products are bad or irrelevant. However, that saying “right tool for the job” still remains true. There are “dressings”, “coatings” and “restorers”. Which one do you use for which application? For black plastic trim, specifically, I have had amazingly long lasting results from Solution Finish and DiY. Cerakote, which I am now testing, is so far so good. DIY TRP = the best results I’ve had. Kind of a “one and done” type deal … as long as you maintain it. Also, if you consider just how far the little bottle spreads, it’s actually quite economical. Prep is so crucial here, before any product application. I absolutely agree with you on this one. I use a high alkaline degreaser and scrub. I also use a rotary to polish but I mix OnR with some rubbing alcohol instead of polishing agents. Still using CG’s VRP on tires. It just makes sense for me. 😊😊😊
Thanks for this! Appreciate your channel, I really like the DIY plastic coating and love using Perl, I use it for interior and exterior plastic trim maybe once every 2 weeks! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Jeremy. Great video! I always find trim restoration challenging ... as most products fail within a few months. I would be interested in seeing another specialty product ... Solution Finish Black Plastic & Vinyl Trim Restorer topped off with Solution Finish - Over The Top Plastic Sealer ... added to your truck's trim ... especially if you intend to report back on the long-term durability of your selected trim restoration products.
DIY detail is the winner for me! The brand has some very heavy hitters if they come out with something to beat brakebuster they'll be a one stop shop for me. Will you be doing a 3,6,12 month durability update?
I’ve got a newer car and normally wash at least every other week. I’ve been using KCX PSS to get some short term protection on my trim & seems to do okay but time will tell. Been thinking about giving Perl a try instead.
I’m glad you ran the test the way you did. Just like ceramic coating on clear coat, the panel needs to be cleaned out first. I want to see how they look in 12mo. You’ll have to drive around town with lines on your bumper trim! I’ve had good luck with Cerakote trim restorer, but it’s all about the prep!
H.D. thanks for your thoughts. 2 products I like to use are Cerakote Trim & Malco Revive Nu. Both are long lasting. I've used Perl, but didn't last long. I have just bought Griot's Garage Ceramic trim, jury is still out? I've heard a lot about Lithium Trim Cubes, never used? I always consider where the product is made and the cost. If you are doing this in a business, the more you spend, the less goes back into your pocket. That's where Maloco Shines...
Stoner seemed to look best and hydrophobic IMO. Cerakote wipes are my go to. That product has lasted over a year on my two cars trim and they sit outside every day in Chicago weather.
Thanks for that. My car is newish and only has a small amount of still nicely black plastic, so i use 303 Aerospace Protectant inside and out. Lasts about a month. I'm happy to do this every so often. What would your preference be for my particular use case? Thanks again
Just like I did in the video. Best Panel Prep I have seen so far. Works amazing and has a good smell to it also. armourdetailsupply.com/collections/all-products/products/surface-prep?ref=29jq3fx2
Can you do a version for the interior? Its protected from the elements inside so I'm assuming they last longer than exterior. Can some of the longer duration ones be used in the interior?
At this point I would not. I have not seen anything good enough to look good and not a fake shine. I use this Interior Cleaner & UV Protection bit.ly/3UwIzbF
I dont care for for the BLAK on the trim - too drastic a color change. Trim OE color is charcoal gray and now it's black - unless I wanted that, I might be annoyed (but not surprised given the name :) ) I like the Perl, but DIY Detail is probably my pick out of these. You should try this again with Cerakote Trim Coat. Some people will think it's a joke but it is NOT. The results and durability are amazing and it restores the OE trim color without blackening it completely. Nice video though Jeremy! 😎👍
i know there is a meguiars one they look the same too me but what was thinking I wouldn't mind if I can apply product everyone 1 or 2 months I'm ok with that what would you recommend I would do ?
Appreciate the comparison! DIY and CarPro are my picks for sure, OEM-like matte finish is what I'm after!
Good choice!
DIY was my favorite too.
Thanks for including us in your test! Look forward to the results 😁
This guy is literally the goat in detailing channels! I love your content and cant stop watching! You deserve all the good things that are coming!
I appreciate that! Thanks
Cerakote ceramic trim coat is the best plastic coating Money can buy
Will bring it in and see. Thanks
Agreed. Another channel did a trim coat torture test and Cerakote easily won.
It’s pretty good but not the best!
Cerekote trim is my go to just use on plastic only
Came here to +1 Cerakote Trim Coat. Used it on my 07 Denali trim and it worked wonders - looks NEW for the last 6+ months. Crazy. It is the REAL DEAL.
Thanks for featuring DIY Detail!
You are welcome. Good stuff from you guys as usual.
I am staring to use Stoner Ceramic Hybrid products more often. They do the job for this amateur detail geek.🇨🇦👍👍
Thanks for your support Eric!
I can’t wait to see the test in time to see how each holds up in a real world test! Thanks for all you do!!!
Thanks

Lithium Graphene Cubes are phenomenal. Highly recommend you try them
I would love to see an update. Maybe every month or two.😊 Thanks!

Will probably do some updates but a year from now who knows what will have happened to the truck by then? hahaha
Thank you.
DIY detail has some good products
Perl is so nice and can be used for many things :)
Yeah its been a go to around the garage for many years
Keep them coming. Thanks for sacrificing the truck!
@@chrissothras5461 hahahah. Thanks man.

Great video! Try the Cerakote wipes or the Lithium trim cubes. I've had success with both.
Thank you! Will do!
Great comparison, but no Koch Chemie Pss? I just tried some on 20 year old trim. Amazing.
Will add it next test. Thanks.

Great Video. Would you consider Gtechniq trim coating and Solution Finish a great solution as well? Curious to hear your opinion
Thanks for that.

The ceramics would last way longer but the 303 is a good way to go to if you just want a spray on wipe off application
Awesome review and tesing!
Thanks.
What I've done is solution finish waited a week and topped it with vonixx plastic ceramic and going strong for 2 years like factory
Thanks for sharing
What protect would you recommend for new trim?
Here are my favs. www.hawaiidetailing.com/plastic-trim-coatings
Do you use a panel prep for trim work? If so what do you use.

Love vrp bro 😂 , dang and slammmmmmmmm, thanks for the slam man ❤
You got it buddy. The slam is part of me liking the product. I will always bring it for you on the good stuff. Sometimes I do forget though. LOL
🤙🏻 thanks bro
Any time!
I really like the look of Pearl, since it is water based, can you not apply a ceramic over it to get the longevity?
@@goldenbear31 no you need a raw surface for a ceramic to penetrate and stick.
You got that backwards. Apply ceramic over a clean and uncoated surface. You can later add products on top of the ceramic after it cures.
Can you do a version for the interior? Its protected from the elements inside so I'm assuming they last longer than exterior. Can some of the longer duration ones be used in the interior?

The Stoners looked good. For me it was just the right shade. Not to shiny.
Thanks!
Yeah. Not bad
i know there is a meguiars one they look the same too me but what was thinking I wouldn't mind if I can apply product everyone 1 or 2 months I'm ok with that what would you recommend I would do ?
I always recommend a more semi permanent ceramic coating as a base coat and short term solutions as needed for maintenance. Thanks for watching
@@HawaiiDetailing have you tried the meguiars?
Not yet
Hi Jeremy, you look younger and younger! Nice body shape bro!
@@SaddyTaz thanks. I appreciate it
im surprised no cerakote
Did not have any for this test
Nice
Thanks
Personally for plastic I really like Koch chemie PSS
I've had the best results just removing the plastic peice and painting it
DIY looks to be the most hydrophobic, which lasts longer I don’t know.
We will find out if people want to see some updates??
@@HawaiiDetailingfor sure!!! I can’t wait!!! I like to be as one and done as possible!
Really faded plastic can be restored with a heat gun, works awusome, jeeps are really bad for this fading. Heat is best.My opinion.
Koch chemie Top Star ???
🙂👍
