If you're new around here, Venomoth is a Psychic/Flying type, you can't change my mind.
The issue with 'Shell Armour' type abilities, is that you'll never know when it saves your life
It saves your life every time, but it would be annoying if it told you that Shell Armor protected you every time you get attacked.
EDIT: this is not serious, it's just a joke that the opposite implementation would make you assume that it saves you every time rather than none of the time.
@@hv433it would only have to say that *if* the attack would of been a crit not for every attack.
On the flipside, it also cuts out one case of bad luck, since you know that a stray crit won't be a potential reason to you getting KO'd
@@hv433 oh I'd never advocate for it to popup, I'm saying it's great.. but because you never see it, you'll assume it's not happening. Even though it's probably prevented 3 or 4 resets lol
(Or, none at all lol)
@@roberte.o.speedwagon6043 yeah, it's a joke. The current implementation makes you think it doesn't save you, but the opposite would make you think it's saving you a lot by wasting a lot of time.
My eyes instinctively shot to the bottom right corner when you picked up the Dome Fossil, and lo and behold, there was Kabutops. Scott, I live for the consistent jokes on your channel, it complements your content so well. With your attention to detail, and the sheer quality of your videos, you are by far the best Pokémon TH-camr and your videos are a source of comfort to me. Cheers, man, and keep doing you, I’ll be with ya until the end!!
The transition from the Mt Moon exit to the house in Cerulean was super satisfying. It's been a joy to watch you grow as a creator. Keep up the good work, Scott
Honestly, Kabutops probably would have had a better time if the training in Mt. Moon instead of doing it on wild pokemon outside of cerulean city. I guess it's like getting to the center of a tootsie pop, the world may never know... Anyways, great run Scott excited for the next one. 🤘😎
this month is going to be amazing in no small part thanks to scott. keep it up king
I made it to 30:47. And no Scott, YOU'RE INCREDIBLE!
Gyarados doing Dragon Dance and Kabutops doing Swords Dance means you essentially did a dance battle.
28:25 "The only move it knows is Rock Tomb"
**looks at Earthquake in the screen**
Well, speed AI prioritizing y'all
@@megariderfire1994classic gen 3
The Dark Lord continues to perform admirably!
Praise Dome :D
Tine to see the frustration with all the intimidations the rival uses....
The rival's Ivysaur probably knocked you out a few times just because of Overgrow after you left it on red health. I didn't go back to count, but it just occurred to me.
Also, it feels like Surf would have been better than Brick Break in basically every case.
Not exactly, with Kabutops having nearly double the attack stat compared to its special attack, Brick Break is better. Plus, he can set up with Swords Dance and deal even more damage.
@@sw33t.angela after swords dance, sure. But brick break is not better than rockslide against any of Lorelei’s Pokémon, and Surf IS better than brick break against two Onix. At this point Swords dance was not available.
Accuracy is important. Rock slide would be way less consistent especially if dewgon got to use Double Team after the initial Rock slide misses. Unnecessary risk.
14:17 Kabuto survived a Razor Leaf after having missed Rock Slide compared to the previous battles where Rock Slide was taking Ivysaur to red health and then Kabuto got one shot.
Thanks for the content as always king 👑.
Always enjoyed the polls for these types of series too. I enjoy seeing what others expect vs your expectations and the outcome
Scott! So good to be back! Recently was at home for a few months following a newborn, I’ll normally listen to ya while I drive around for work. Needless to say, on that I’m back-I’ve got some catching up to do!
On your first run, I think replacing surf with brick break in the first E4 run was the wrong move. It only was used in 3 cases, against the two onix, and rhydon. All three of which are 4x weak to water and have far lower special defense. Surf would have 1 shot all three without issue.
honestly, unless you're using a fighting type or a Pokemon with a horrible moveset I find brick break to be not useful really at all
@@javelin4646 Brick Break is fantastic on Dragonite and Salamence.
Never getting crit:ed won't play a huge part? That's a joke right? Never getting a single crit from an opponent is huge.
Something like avoiding crits is difficult to quantify because you'll never know when the effect actually blocked a crit. It would definitely be more felt on, say, a Bulk Up or Calm Mind user relying on the defense buffs to carry them.
Otherwise, what crits did you block? You can never know. Maybe the important hits were crits, maybe the only crits that ever would've happened were Pidgey Tackles. If you're knocking enemies out fast, then it's not as important of an ability.
The ability does not speed up the run, it prevents RNG from slowing down the run. The difference between no crits at all and never getting crit in a way, that forces a reset is 0. It improves consistency by a small amount, but if you played with the ability and with no ability, there would be no meaningful difference in the time taken between those runs.
Especially in nuzlockes, I have pretty bad luck in Pokémon games in general so I am glad that there are a few things that prevent crits.
@@Vitamin-L I remember several other videos on this channel where Scott straight up said, "As long as I didn't get crit by X move...which happened and that was a reset." It feels like it happens at least once per video.
Tea is done , kids are chilling and then a scott's thoughts vid is uploaded, tidy 😎
Always loved Kabutops, such a great OG design.
Can't wait for the rest of Spooky season. Love you, Scott. 🖤 Thanks for everything, Papá you're the best.
Wow Scott, in these graphics kabutops really look like a reaper thing! Scary! And it amazed me so much in this game, I guess substitute makes a huge difference for the solo candidate, exceptionally when so Pokemon is a powerful machine! I was amazed by kabutops performance Scott, doubt! And this FireRed series I great too! Thank you so much! I was wondering, since eggsceptional is working alongside you now, maybe you could bring together nice HeartGold solo runs! Well it's ok if not possible at the moment too! Thank you so much!
With such a narrow difference, kabuto/kabutops probably could have beaten aerodactyl if Scott had fought more trainers in Mt.Moon instead of having to grind wild Pokémon at Cerulean City.
i really like the full evolution line playthroughs for this generation. it somehow seems more in line with how the game would actually be played with different starters. And it always felt arbitrary how some stone evolutions are otherwise handicapped early game
Brilliant video as usual. I thought we had a tier list after the 2nd elite four as well.
Thank you Scott, amazing start to the spooky month
That thumbnail art is sick :D
I demand the complaining about rock tombs accuracy.
He tells us when it misses. That’s close enough for me.
Kabutops has been my favorite fossil since I was little. I got one in gold version and used to solo the elite 4 with it all the time. Its move set was awful but since i got it to level 100 it didn't matter. So I'm very happy to see it do so well, I agree with your prediction if you have it start fully evolved it should do well.
Seeing the 1003 attack stat made me chuckle. It is so comical!
Love your vids man, I wish you would've taught aerial ace over mud shot right away to solve all of the grass types right away. I think it would be a huge time save
Kabutops run, let's go!
I used a Kabutops in my Rock type run in White 2. It was ok until the 6th gym when my Omastar outperformed it
Ahh yes venomoth the typeless pokemon makes sense that it lived a rock slide
In the interest of fairness Aerodactyl should also have to start as a Kabuto
Kabuto/ps dominated. This was a really good run. I think in a second playthrough that Kabutops would absolutely dominate. Omastar could be a sneak contender too if you went for Rain Dance + Swift Swim + Surf strategies, I think.
I am excited for the final fossil form face off episode in the future.
3:46 I love that edit.
Battle Armor and Shell Armor are both good abilities, but it’s worth considering situations in which having it would make a Pokémon miss out on a better ability, like Kingler potentially missing out on Hyper Cutter. In this case though, I think Shell Armor is correct for both Rock/Water fossils (maybe Swift Swim would be good to patch up Omastar’s Speed, but Kabutops definitely shouldn’t need it)
Teaching Brick Break is such a weird choice, Surf would overall be a better option for the Onix and Rhydon surely? You already have super effective damage for Loreli
Predicting Kabutops is gonna be the best of the three
Scott should release a Rock Tomb misses compilation as the very last video of the year
14:55 oooo arrow changed
21:30 total missed opportunity for onixiseseseses
Forgets surf for brick break, uses brick break 0 times on Lorelei, loses to hicker, keeps brick break never once used on any league member, next use is against champion Rhydon (surf better) no other uses of brick break in League. Keep surf. Save lots of time
Btw love your content brotha, been watching for 2 years every vid! Thought it was a good time for my input, Kabutops is my favorite Pokémon :)
Cool video I love kabutops
Rock is an extremely underrated type when it’s on a Pokémon with have way decent stats and moves. So many moves in a play through are normal type so that resistance is super valuable and so few types resist rock, and like 1 Pokémon in the first 3 gens 4x resist it. Just steelix.
My favourite Pokemon, let’s see how you do. No pressure 😂
Time for the rein of swords dance whoo!
For the post game!
It didn’t really matter but I do have to question keeping rock slide over Aerial Ace in the elite 4 rematch. I feel like after you set up with sword dance either move is in the 1 shot range against all neutral targets and then brick break just covers the rest
The decision to remove surf for brick break is truly baffling to me. You only used it against the rock/ground types in the first E4 so surf would've changed those 3 2-hits into 1-hits.
Edit: I suspect fixing this mistake would put Kabutops above Aerodactyl but we'll have to wait for second playthroughs to know for sure.
It got used on Steelix later too, though that doesn't really matter for results.
And given the massive gap between the defenses on those things, that's probably a very manageable two shot there too.
That being said, maybe the numbers are wacktastic in a way we don't know
@@1stCallipostle I agree with the steelix. Especially since you want to set up for the machamp anyway; there's no reason not to use a fully physical set once you get swords dance.
Woohoo, catching this early on my night shift.
Wouldnt blackout training against rival 2’s pidgeotto be more efficient than wild mons?
@ 14:55 i happen to notice the math on the defense growth is off. Only goes up by 15 through evolution
I’m surprised you were able to resist the urge to do single stage omastar and kabutops videos immediately after these and upload them tomorrow and saturday lol
I'd love to see videos comparing a pokemon’s result across different games someday, i.e. why is Raticate Surge tier in fire red, but A tier in Yellow? What specific changes between the generations led the same pokemon to perform so differently, even in a remake?
Dang, I’m here early today!
How many more evolving playthroughs will Scott be able to handle before his drive for optimization leads him to cave on the single playthrough challenges he's been doing in fire red and starts using fully evolved Pokemon doing multiple runs cause he just can't stand sub-optimal play and Pokemon not being where they deserve on the tier list?
Taking all bets
The tile sets have nothing to do with dig flags. This was just an error for sabrina's gym.
For some reason I have the image of Pearl's scream in my mind with the subtitle "Please Omastar" like:
Scott after seeing in the damage ranges that there is a chance for the hex fossil survive an 4x grass type attack and finish the opposing pokemon
Guess I should comment yesterday but can't really formulate untill now
I think Kabutops has the potential to be better than Aerodactyl.
Expecting Kabutops to do the best. It's my favorite of the 3 fossils in Kanto, as long as Mega Aerodactyl isn't being counted. That being said... I'd love to see the mega being played backported to gen 1 or 3
EDIT: honestly it's cool to see Kabutops do as good as it did without Swords Dance. I'm sure that in repeat playthroughs, Kabutops will cut the competition and come out on top
Honestly, I thought Omastar would win against Kabutops just because Surf off 115 SpAtk is so good and Kanto is a paradise for water types. The physical moves Kabutops uses are so much weaker in comparison without Swords Dance. Color me surprised for sure.
Faster than Omastar despite having more than double the resets, huh?
He did win the in-game time race by a country mile. 8 minutes faster than Aerodactyl and 21 more than Omastar. If he could get the resets down, Kabutops to would fly up the rankings
Rock/Fighting is a great combination, only resisted by Claydol.
Favorite fossil, and always will be. That said, both Kabuto and Omanyte should evolve at level 30...
Also, I might be remembering wrong, but isn't there a Leftovers where Snorlax was sitting? It's hidden, so you do gotta click around a bit, but it might be more useful than Sitrus Berries at that point...
Issue with the Leftovers is that it requires you have an Item Finder. Even if you know where it is at, the game won't let you pick it up unless you stand on the exact spot and use the Item Finder to grab it. It'd take too much time to catch the necessary Pokemon to receive it from Oak's Aide, which is why Scott only starts using the Leftovers for the League rematches.
@KeithTheGeek Ah, I gotcha. It's been awhile since I played FR so I forgot about that detail.
Kind of silly if you ask me...
Keep in mind that no crits also means every defensive boost like harden or amnesia become even better since they can almost never be ignored
With such a small difference I'm almost sure that training in Mt. Moon instead of resetting over and over would've let Kabutops win.
Ope, arriving a bit late for this one. But I am hopeful Kabutops will do well.
The best FOSSIL DONT @ US!!!
Maybe im giving it too much credit but isn't there a chance that teaching aerial ace much earlier would have helped solve Erika and the lavender town rival easier? Since slash was basically useless
When WILL you start doing second playthroughs? Speaking personally, I find the solo runs without evolution are much more interesting...
Not sure yet, I'm not rushing towards it
When I completed the Pokedex in Pokémon Red, Kabutops was the second to last Mon I got (Mew was last because I didn't know that it was an event Pokémon at the time. I felt so stupid looking for it for days. Luckily I founs out about the glitch.
Good lord, I watch your content a lot and I know a lot of trivia especially our normal knowledge of damage type split, whatever you preferred to call physical special split my mind kept thinking mud shot is special so it was complaining you had it till the part where you got dig did it re register that this is Gen 3 so it’s always physical ground moves
This might be a stupid question, but the way your overlay works, do you see the exact same things that we as the audience sees, or do you see even more or maybe even less?
30:14 If you are curious and want to find out.... You are going to have to WAIT!!
Using the Re-Match System at certain points might speed up the leveling process i think, or is that something you banned for your playthrough?
Kabutops also would be the easy winner if we didn’t get walled a little in Cerulean
When you need to do additional training, how come you never use the versus seeker?
Of course :-) Also id love to see you try solo speed runs at the fastest pace where you can earn enough exp to finish without a reset.
Scott, is it possible to mod the game so the first time in the elite four Bruno is a hiker then round 2 he becomes elite four?
Why does Kabuto look like someone sat on it with some THICK ASS CHEEKS!?!?
So i am new here, can someone explain me the venomoth lore?
I don't see the point in keeping slash/ace over surf.
can you do the other fossils, too?
Are you going to evolve mid playthrough for every future gen?
I think the misplays (like skipping trainers in Mt. Moon) robbed my boy Kabutops from getting that 1.st place. However despite 15 faults still being so close to Aerodactyl speaks volumes on how much of a beast it is.
yeah, I think it's the 15 faults that caused the delay, rather than the "starting fully evolved"
Kabutops just shredding if you look at gametime means it probably dominates if there's a second playthrough, mostly because you eliminate the Misty/Rival problem
@@pommyadam my guess is that either Scott Played Kabutops first (therefore it makes sense that more errors snuck in), or he at certain points tends to overestimate and then underestimate Kabutops. Like I said regardless, it was a great Video and I enjoyed myself. The biggest takeaway from those 3 vids is that the fossils are all good to solo the game with.
ALL HAIL DOME
Anyone else just wanna press your thumbs into the divots one kabutos shell?
It always 'hurts' me when you are saying Onix is a terrible Pokemon. Stat wise it maybe is but that's no fault of him, i truly like Onix
Yay
Kabuto still champ, the flyer don't count when it comes to the battle between teams Helix and dome.
1:16 why waterfall ?
Sure, usually Kabu-tops. But sometimes he gives the wife a treat and Kabu-subs.
You don't need to set up +6 attack with sword dance most of the time. You're wasting your time
All hail the Dark Lord.
You should do Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit 😁
You should try pokemon emerald ReSprited some of the pokemon sprites are pretty hilarious
Feeding the algorithm for our dark lord Dome Fossil.
i had a thought, shouldn't you consider egg moves? like you are already playing with the best stats possible, why not also add in the egg moves of your choice. as an example, Omanyte would have been absurdly better with an egg move.
Hail to the dark lord.
Best designed pokemon by far. Wish its usefulness would reflect that somehow though.
You're using the word "factoid" incorrectly. You mean just a "fact". A "factoid" is an incorrect piece of information. :)
Sooo much player error in this run
If rock slide misses it tends to get stronger, in my opinion
