  • Do you find the Gundam Timeline intimidating? Not sure what the Universal Century is or where to start to witness this acclaimed story everyone raves on about? Well, I'm here to give you the quickest rundown available that will get you right into the awesome Gundam Series.
    This is easily the simplest video to get you into Gundam, and if you're so excited that you can't even get through these 60 seconds, just start with Gundam The Origin OVA Series and thank me later.

    ---------------------------
    Gundam (Japanese: ガンダムシリーズ, Hepburn: Gandamu Shirīzu, lit. Gundam Series) is a Japanese military fiction media franchise/media mix. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise, the franchise features giant robots, or mecha, with the name "Gundam". The franchise began on April 7, 1979, with Mobile Suit Gundam, a TV series that defined the "real robot" mecha anime genre by featuring giant robots called mobile suits (including the original titular mecha) in a militaristic setting. The popularity of the series and its merchandise spawned a franchise that includes 50 TV series, films and OVAs as well as manga, novels and video games, along with a whole industry of plastic model kits known as Gunpla which makes up 90 per cent of the Japanese character plastic-model market.

      The thing with origin is that it's adapted from the flashback at from the origin manga with as a whole is a retelling of the original show. Events in origin don't add up to similar events in main canon

    • @ronronchau
      @ronronchau 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      still don't
      origin is more or less a background story-telling and rationalization to some uncleared/blanked settings from the OG TV and the movie series, if you don't watch the original first you do found a bit bored as you expected something(aka being spoiled)
      not like the 0079 side-off series like 08MS, war in the pocket which considered as a independent story in a same time space, or thunderbolt which is literally a non-canon story

    I definitely prefer a chronological order but I understand the idea of following the timeline in order. I think origin hits a lot harder if you know what it’s referencing and what it’s changing. Kinda like how it’s hard to appreciate a remastered game if you didn’t play the original.

      Origin should be watched after you finish MSG like a love letter side story for the fans since it gives away some of the mysteries.
      Imagine knowing Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader in Episode 3 first then you "find out" in the original trilogy that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father. Wow, what a reveal.
      I already knew some of the UC lore beforehand but I started watching the series with Origin before MSG and I felt like MSG was not as intense as it was supposed to be.

I find it cooler to watch the origin in a retrospective way, you will like and understand the characters better. However, for very first timer to Gundam i actually recommend Seed or 00, the animation from old UC ones are just too old for most people and they will probably find the story too slow and dragging. Seed and 00 are not too old, the characters and mobile suits are cool, story is pretty "public-friendly", like there is something for everyone and you might not love it but you won't hate it.

I’d absolutely love to do more videos on Gundam in the future, cause if I’m perfectly honest my channels a bit all over the place, which is fine, but if I want to grow I guess I gotta niche down a bit? I love doing the Zoids stuff and I’ll always continue to do it, but the fan-base isn’t huge, so maybe niching down to the mecha guy could be in my best interest 🤔

      @@Viseak I completely get it, I love Zoids and the zoids community, but unfortunately it's pretty small. I'm completely on board if you wanna go for the mecha route (with the occasional non mecha series or videogame here and there), there's lots of franchises you could cover, you already did Code Geass, Zoids and Gundam, so now you could talk about Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, Macross, Voltron, Mazinger Z, Eureka Seven, S.S.S.S. Gridman, Aldnoah Zero, Full Metal Panic!, etc. I'm really excited to see you expanding on the mecha genre in your channel (I believe every zoids and gundam fan is a fan of mecha in general) and to answer your question, I would love to see you do deep analysis videos on the gundam lore and characters (they're really complex and worth explaining) as well as the overall message of the series (There's no good or bad guys in war, there's also no winners or heroes in war, only death and destruction), I would also love to hear your personal thoughts on the series, maybe do a comparison between them (some series are really alike, others are very different, would be interesting to hear what you think about that). I think I went a bit overboard with the suggestions (sorry about that, i get excited over things like this), but whatever you decide I'll stay here watching your content. Cheers mate!

      @Viseak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alejandrogonirovirosa3214 nah that’s fair enough mate! Gurren Lagann and Eva are two series I definitely want to cover at some point.
      Character analysis is also something I’m heavily considering for Gundam, I think Amuro gets really overshadowed by Char and would love to make videos on both individually cause they’re fantastic well written characters. As well as exploring NewTypes and the core themes surrounding them, it’s honestly such an interesting topic seeing human evolution in that way and I’d love to go in on it further.
      The themes of war could end up being a great case study on how perfectly Zoids Chaotic Century and Gundam explore the nuance of there being no true ‘good’ and ‘bad’ guys, in an anime where you’d typically expect good and bad guys.
      There’s plenty I want to cover trust me, it just takes me AGES to write scripts especially on series I don’t know inside out like Zoids hahaha

      It’s slow, it’s old, and is boring. Sure, there’s a lot to be said about the characters and the world, which is why I rate the movies.

There is soo much happening on the White base, the people living there, the enemies and in the world that maybe modern audience can't stand on the storm of information.

    Could not disagree more with starting with Origin.
    Canonicity aside, as a prequel it’s inherently written with the expectation of you having the original show or at least knowing it’s characters (it’s why the Origin manga only does the backstory after Movie 2)
    Also personally speaking, not only does Origin have some stupid shit thrown it (ex. the real Char), it misses a lot of why people actually like Char as a character for the sake of making him “the coolest” since he’s the author’s favourite character

      There are very few I’d genuinely consider better to watch after all the original stuff. Most prequels, when done right, work as a great entry point for newcomers into a series that are too intimidated by its long history (Gundam being a near perfect example, the fact Origin’s not technically canon ruins this a little but ya know, close enough).

    just going to go ahead and warn people since it was only hinted to here, but the movies aren't just rushed they leave out MASSIVE key plot points and can make good characters out to be douchebags because it's cut up so much. so i can only recommend the movies if you are maybe wanting to watch the OG series but you're on a 9 hour flight, some of the really good fight scenes are even cut out and some of the relationships in the show are cut up so poorly in the movies it just seems like everyone is cheating on everyone, if you plan to watch chars counter attack, Zeta or hathaway i do NOT recommend watching the movies and instead watch the full OG series, you see characters in the series and understand who they are that show up later in zeta and hathaway that are completely cut from the movies.

    Having said that, I would tell them to watch the Gundam in release order until Turn A, no matter what beginners say. This is because the 80's and 90's were the golden age of Gundam, and Turn A is the culmination of that. The Gundam franchise for me ended perfectly with Turn A.

While I do have a bit of a personal pet peeve about certain franchises them being how Iron blooded orphans I only like the 1st season my friends can vouch for me on that especially considering what we know about the writing process of it including season 2, F 91 should have been a series, After war gundam X should have had more than just a couple more episodes and then be given a chance to have an English dub, and I prefer Build fighters over Try, Divers and Re Rise, I do still enjoy the franchise a lot especially since I went and got a couple of model kits over the years. You technically could, but I really wouldn’t recommend it.
      Both Zeta and ZZ are fantastic in their own right and are well worth watching before the climax of CCA.
      I know it’s an exiting movie to get to, and two long series are a pretty big pill to swallow, but the movie will be much more impactful with the context / after the journey of what comes before it.
      You don’t need to watch any of the side stories like 08th MS team/0083 Stardust Memory/0080 War in the pocket to get context for it though (although of course I’d still recommend coming back to and watching them later, they’re all great in their own right).
