Here's an important tip when using Shotcut: To take care of lag use preview scaling. Preview scaling is in settings. It helps the processing of the video filters and when overlaying clips on top of one another so that the lag is eliminated or at least reduced. If you still have bad lag after that combine preview scaling with proxy which is also in settings.

    Thanks !
I just started using Shotcut and only learned how to to text fade in and out with keyframes.
Your 2nd way in the video is much easier !

How do you compare Shotcut to iMovie? I don't have a mac, so have never played iMovie, but heard it was decent.

I actually really like iMovie. It performs really well on Mac since they pair the hardware and the software. iMovie will have enough features to get you going. It is easy to pick up and learn. It has enough transitions, titles and effects to create excellent content. The key, I believe, is taking good footage in the first place. Once you get a bit more technical, you'll find iMovie to be quite limiting. If you're a beginner and have a Mac, iMovie is an excellent option to get started.
Shotcut is more full-featured and I think is more on-par with commercial video editors. It is a good stepping stone to understand video editing software so you can later make a decision to stay with free or graduate into software that is paid. I like Shotcut and use it a lot but it's workflow needs some getting used to. It's performance on the Mac also leaves a lot to be desired.

Can please someone tell me how to add a text for 5 seconds just like in the tutorial but it also moves with the object, for example l want the text to appear near someones head when the person is walking.

Wow! I tried to learn Openshot and now Shotcut and I'm just not tech savy enough to follow along. Too many options and settings. I would def need in person training for something like this. I'd love to have cool transitions and effects on my channel, but looks like Windows Video Editor is where I'll stay lol.

You have to click the master in the timeline. Go to filter and click the text you want click t in search to find. Then you'll see it on screen it will move around, place where you want.
