      Chris Layton and Reese both played for Kenny Wayne Shepherd for a good while, Chris is still his drummer. I saw Reese play at International Blues Challenge in Memphis several years back; he was with Bart Walker from Austin, TX who won best guitarist and 2nd overall. Reese was also the original keyboard for the Allman Bros Band before Gregg came home from California to join the band.

    Another child prodigy is Derek Trucks. He was about 13 when he opened for BB King. Went on to join The Allman Brothers, played in Eric Clapton's band. Now he fronts his own band, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, with his talented wife Susan.

    Anyone notice that Joe's playing one of blues great Albert Kings Gibson Flying V guitars? King who passed in 1992 was left handed. Joe's restrung it to play right handed. Albert's name is embedded in ivory within the frets, but upside down because of Joe's string changes. I have this entire concert on Blu ray, and it's killer.

    • @randyhochstein8455
      @randyhochstein8455 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@vrvaughnI must disagree. Albert did not play the guitar upside down. Albert’s Flying V was a left hand guitar as the tone and volume controls are on the top along with the cable when Joe plays it. Therefore, it definitely had to be restrung for a right handed player. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸

    • @thelowe6393
      @thelowe6393 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I must disagree also. That is Albert King's ( one of three) guitar which is a right handed guitar, which was lent to Joe by Steven Seagal, who purchased it from Albert's estate. I got that straight from Joe himself.

Not only is he a great player, but he's helping to keep the blues alive with his record label and his annual Keeping the Blues Alive cruise. You might want to check out Joe doing "Takin' the Hit" from Live at Rockpalast. Keyboard player is Reese Wynans, a world class player who was also Stevie Ray Vaughn's keyboardist (usually). You really cannot pick a bad song from Joe. And because he is primarily self published and has his own TH-cam channel you can just go to his channel and pick pretty much anything in his library. He has entire live concerts posted there as well as studio cuts. My recommendation for next time you are in the mood for Joe is his live version of Crossfire, written by Reese and originally recorded by SRV. Joe introduces Reese in this video and it's fire. th-cam.com/video/vPRtCKT-vwY/w-d-xo.html

    And you should check out the supergroup that Joe's in called Black County Communion. The band consists of Joe on guitar & vocals, the voice of rock, Glenn Hughes who also plays bass. Glenn was in Deep Purple & other great bands. Glenn has also appeared on some of Joe's albums. Jason Bonham, John's son on drums & Derek Sherinian on keyboards from Dream Theater. I had the pleasure to see the current blues prodigy when he was 15 at the King Biscuit Blues Festival. That is Christone “Kingfish” Ingram from Clarksdale MS. This is great! Love that he was a child prodigy! And it's amazing to see his career still going all these years later. Let's have more of him. And can you also get back to another blues guy who was a young prodigy in Jonny Lang?

    Always enjoyed Joe but never seen him live.... lucky thing about the northeast is that you could see many of the blues greats in small clubs locallt.
    If ya love the Blues, especially the guitar ... you're gonna love Roy Buchanan (Messiah Will Come Again 1976) ... have to watch the audience ... dead silence , in awe..... Best thing about seeing Roy, it was often in small venues, where you you were close enough to the guitar that you would violate COVID distance rules.
    Green Onions, Royz Blues ..... especially the tunes with Stanley Clarke.

    He has so much music. If you are wanting something that is almost 180⁰ check out "Redemption" you will get to see him in the studio BUT the whole band plays like a live performance.

    WOW!!!!!! That is one of the best blues performances I've ever heard. I'm embarrassed to say I'd never heard of Joe Bonamassa. Now I've got another rabbit hole to dive into. So many amazing instrumentalists have decent voices or they have a great voice and are decent on an instrument. Joe is incredible on guitar and you can hear the BB King influence. But he's got an absolute phenomenal voice, at times he sounds like Boz Skaggs. But it's not just his stupendous guitar and vocals. The backup singers were perfection and the band is world class. Even the arrangement was spot on. This is definitely going on my play list. Thank you for once again opening my eyes to a new performer and putting a BIG smile on my face! Keep up the great work!

    I've been going to see Joe Bonamassa for almost 20 years at very small venues. Please check out (Going Down) 8:09 from this concert. By the way he's playing Albert King's guitar on this song. That's SRV keyboard player.

    The guitar he's playing has a name painted on the fret board. It's the name of it's original owner Albert King. The guitar was given to Albert for his 65th birthday after it was commissioned by Billy Gibbs from ZZ Top.
    Albert King is another brilliant blues artist who also wrote this song. You should try his other big song 'Born Under a Bad Sign'.

      Legendary blues player Albert King was known for his Flying V and that might actually be Albert’s guitar. I heard a rumor that Joe bought it after Albert passed. A great video on TH-cam is “In Session” with SRV and Albert. 90 minutes of great guitar playing.

      Sure looks like it. Has Albert's name on the fretboard, upsidedown and it's a left-handed guitar. It's strung right handed just like Albert played it. He was quite a player, learned to play guitar strung right handed which gave him a unique playing style 😊

Like you, I was blown away by this performance. It is so satisfying to see performers in this day and age actually playing from the soul as opposed to the computer-generated drivel that is out there now.

    The second lead guitarist is Kirk Fletcher whom Joe has called one of the great traditional blues guitarists. Kirk had a stroke over the summer and Joe and some others staged a fundraiser for him. Looks like he's fully recovered and back on stage now. Just shows how tight the blues community is. Always enjoy your reactions.
