I've been collecting records since 1955. I'm just an old fart music lover. The keyboard player is Reese Wynans who's in the rock and roll hall of fame and played with Stevie Ray Vaughn. The other guitarist is another blues legend, Kurt Fletcher. If you count Joe's studio albums, live albums and collaboration albums it totals 36.... I have 26. He's sold more blues records and has had more #1 Blues/Rock hits than anyone in history... yes I'm a fan... He's also in the rock band Black Country Communion (4 albums). He's also in Rock Candy Funk Party (3 albums). And his work with Beth Hart (4 albums)... I'd like to suggest "Mountain Time" live at the Royal Albert Hall... "Angel of Mercy" live at the Greek Theater... his acoustic work, "Trouble Town" live at Radio City Music Hall, or any of his acoustic from the Vienna Opera House of Carnegie Hall ... Take it from this old guy; the rabbit hole is very deep. Enjoy the trip.
I'm just a tad younger than you; but still an old fart music lover as well. Everything you said is dead on correct. He was also a child prodigy, opening for BB King at 12 years old! And on the business side of the music world Joe is unique in that he and his biz partner own their label so he gets more cash; that's how he can tour with brass and a world class band surrounding him. Also on the biz side... Joe and his long time business partner book venues with cash up front, so they get 90% of the ticket revenue. That's how you own a guitar collection valued in the multi-millions of dollars. Cheers!
Joe Bonamassa's father owned a music store, Joe got his first guitar around 5-6 yrs old. At 11 years old he was opening for BB King. He has paid his dues. The Keyboard player is Reece Wyans. Former keyboard player for Stevie Ray Vaughn.
This was the final show in Joe's "Three Kings" tour, where he featured the music of Albert King, B.B. King, and Freddie King. You'll notice on this song he is playing Albert King's guitar "Lucy". Albert played left-handed, that's why the knobs are on the top of the body (since Joe is playing right-handed). Joe wears the sunglasses on stage because he says the spotlights hurt his eyes and cause them to water. Just saw him for the third time last week. Had seats in row D; it was fantastic!
Love that you recognise Joe and I totally agree with you about David Gilmore sound… Joe has so many influences in his interpretation of music when you watch and listen to his incredible repertoire, but one stands out to me the most (especially in blues rock) the Irish powerhouse Gary Moore! If you haven’t gone down that rabbit hole, I recommend you do my friend, you won’t be disappointed, and fall in love with blues rock all over again.🎸 Cheers 🍻
The post below covered bonamassa's history pretty well. However, for the record, this concert was outdoors. Though... it was at night.😅 Bonamassa claims he suffers from light sensitivity, hence the shades. I really think it's the look he's after, cuz he's pretty geeky without them! In fact, he prides himself on being a nerd. The difference between his talking voice (see any interview he's ever done) and bluesy singing voice never fails to amaze me!
I've been a fan of Joe for a long time and I finally got to see him live on the 2022 fall tour. I love the blues rock sound and I too am a big hard rock/metal fan. As awesome as a metal band guitar solo is, a blues guitar solo is even more epic. Blues guitar solos have so much passion , depth and feeling to them. Yes Lee maybe you need to broaden your horizons. There is a lot of really cool new blues rock out there and an almost unlimited supply of classic old school blues out there.
One of the GOAT! By the way that's "Albert King's" guitar who played left handed so Joe turned it over and put strings on to play right handed and all the knobs are in the upside down position. Joe has a record label KTBA (Keeping The Blues Alive) and his company is helping other blues players like Kurt to cut their own albums! ❤
You pointed out how they'll play a line and then "Doodle-Doodle-Do" (I think that's close to how you described it), that's the basis for blues and other types of music. It known as "Call and Response". Joe wears his sunglasses indoors because his eyes are extremely light sensitive, and the stage lighting pretty much blinds him without them. My mother had the same problem with light sensitivity, and wore her sunglasses any time she was in bright light.
Don't know if you will see this or not since this video posted a year ago but here is some info. The keyboard player is Reese Wynans who played with Stevie and Double Trouble, the drummer is Antoine Figg, the bass player was Micheal Rhodes who played in the studios in Nashville. Michael unfortunately passed away in 2023. To play in Joe's band you had to be in the top of your class
I never was a blues fan until I heard Joe! It was just something that happened to be on wherever I was! Then I heard Joe, and WOW! I was hooked! And this song is what did it! It was the first song of his that I heard!
This level of musicianship was common when I was a kid growing up the 1960s and 70s. That's why so many songs Joe plays are covers of the great blues guitarists from that era. Nothing that I've ever heard expresses the human condition with more honesty, joy and soul than the blues. 🎸🎸💖💖
Although Joe is a huge Blues proponent he is actually a blues rock artist. One of the most popular songs that he has ever played is The Ballad of John Henry and probably the most jaw-dropping performance you will ever see is Joe with Eric Gales playing this song live aboard a cruise ship. It's the most incredible guitar duel you will ever wish to see. It went viral and consequently Joe produced Eric's album Crown that was nominated for a Grammy award this year. Now that would be a reaction video to watch. I'm not kidding your jaw will be on the floor.
Joe is just amazing and I’ve been lucky to see him many times! FYI he certainly does other styles of music and is a member of a ‘super-group’ rock band called Black Country Communion with Glen Hughes and Jason Bonham! Definitely worth checking out!
He played in a "super group" called Black Country Communion with Glenn Hughes (Bass/Vocals) and Jason Bonham (Drums) and their genera was clearly Rock.
Modern Blues is Joe Bonamassa, he has been playing guitar since he was a kid and jammed with B.B.King ehen he was 12 years old. Joe is one of the all times greats in my opinion.
Thanks for the great reaction.😊 I would recommend the studio version of Redemption and studio version of Different Shades Of Blue to see some differences in his music. Yes he uses a pick. He holds it between his thumb and pointer finger so he switches back and forth.
Reese Wynans formerly of Stevie Raye Vaughan's Double Trouble on keys. Michael Rhodes (R.I.P.), on bass. Jimmy Barnes daughter (Mahalia) one of the backgruond singers.
2 stars in this; Mr B himself and that he's playing Albert King's "Lucy"! I used to love Albert King...raw and powerful (...and Freddie and B.B!). He plays in a metal band (Black Country Communion) and a funk band (Rock Candy Funk Party) as well! Keyboards is Reece Wynans, who was Stevie Ray Vaughan's keyboard player.
Joe There’s at least 3 different Joe Bonamassa’s. There’s the early years with a bass and a drummer playing the bars and the night clubs and his longer hair Then there’s the acoustic side like his Live in Vienna set he did. Then there’s my absolute favorite song “woke up dreaming “ acoustic song. Truly bad ass Then there’s the modern era Joe. I saw him in a concert talking about the people he brings to the stage. People so good it pushes him to be at his best. Back up singers, other musicians. He stated he wanted to bring you a world class band every time. Bold statement. I enjoy all facets of Joe. This is what separates him as a guitarist. The best guitarist in the world. The difficulty in playing acoustic is way harder than an electric and Joe does it flawlessly. I love the diversity in his play. The way he makes the music seem to breathe and be alive. Yes I’m a fan.
The keyboardist is Reese Wynans. He was with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. His fingers are like magic on the ivory. Please if you can, check out SRV and Double Trouble. Joe Bonamassa and SRV are like magic when listening and watching them perform.
Good reaction and awareness of the Rock and Blues correlation. Without the Blues Rock & Roll would not exist. Pretty much all early Rock came from Blues mixed with other genres and some added gifts. Many riffs used in Rock songs came directly from Blues. Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Eric Clapton, etc. play Blues and changed their music somewhat to fit the Rock genre, but Blues was the baseline for much of their music. Joe B. learned guitar in another life and came back to bless those who stumble upon his music in this life! The history of the genres of music is a fantastic voyage and the understanding of much of it is very enlightening. Doing as you are in listening to different genres is a great way to learn the hidden musical treasures that many have given us over the years! As you have seemly waken up to Blues, try some Blues/Country/Soul and listen to Chris Stapleton if you haven't yet, that'll open another rabbit hole to go down for ya! ☺
I highly recommend "Joe Bonamassa Official - "Just Got Paid" - Tour de Force: Royal Albert Hall". An amazing performance, showcasing Joe's Rock chops with ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, and White Snake. Sounds crazy but all three of those bands are neck deep in the blues. Trust me on this one!
Oh yeah. Been a huge fan of Joe for a while now. So glad you reacted to him. As i listen to this, I am also reminded of another blues singer from way back , Robert Cray (Tremblant blues festival 2009) , and many studio recordings. And, there is another blues guitarist/singer who has recorded at least one of Joe's songs, Mountain Time, that i really like. Her name is Chantel McGregor.
Seen Joe a couple times. He puts on a great show. Hopefully someone pays you to react to Joe's Blues Cruise Colab videos someday. Some of the best guitarist on the planet join him for those legendary cruises. BTW.. Joe has a high society following. Looking the part is a must. LOL
He also plays rock check just got paid today you will be amazed. Also check out woke up dreaming on acoustic absolutely genius. Love your commentary ❤❤
Yeah the organ player is name is Reese he is the organ player for Stevie Ray Vaughan of course back then he looked a lot younger!😅 By the way he has his own albums he is one of the best organ players in the world.😅😅😊😮
You haven't scratched the surface with Joe's music. He has 11 albums out there with everything from Blue's to some pretty hard rock. Joe can write and play anything but he says his mission is to ceep Blue's alive because that's where all rock came from
This venue is actually outdoors-sunglasses are for the bright lights. Of course you like it-Blues music is the foundation of Rock n’Roll…Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, Santana, Grateful Dead, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, Cream, Yardbirds, Jeff Beck and, as you mentioned, Pink Floyd-what rock band wasn’t influenced by the Blues? With Joe, you’re looking at a guy who was better than most at age 6, and a professional opening for BB King at age 12. He also plays harder rock with Black Country Communion (a ‘super group’ composed of Joe with Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, and Derek Sherinian). Best of all is his blues work with singer extraordinaire BETH HART. From the same concert, try Cadillac Assembly Line. Pure blues funk! All the songs from this concert are either Freddie, Albert or BB King. This one would have been a bucket list show for me, 73 y.o. music fart as well. (Didn't mean to imply the songs were written by Albert, Freddie or BB. Some were but all made popular by the three Kings!) Thank you Joe!
Joe is absolutely top notch! Get into some Beth Hart as well. They collaborate with each other some and it's pure magic. Some of the best music ever done, period.
Newsflash ! ! ! All blues guitarists play with passion and feeling. Blues is an emotion, so playing out the emotion, weather it is on guitar, piano, organ or mouth harp (harmonica for those that don't know); it will all be played with feeling and emotion, otherwise it's just as well be some other genre of music. BTW . . . David Gilmour was very heavily influenced by the blues, which shows up in almost all of his music.
Would love your reaction to Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa - I'd Rather Go Blind, One of the best guitar solos that I've ever heard. I shouldn't say that because they are all mind-blowing.
Funny you should mention that Joe has a great voice (which he does, I'm a huge fan of his ) he was kicked out of a band years ago because other band members said he couldn't sing !!!! oh the irony x He seems to be doing just fine without them x
You must look into Stevy ray van how he got to were he did . The texas austin blues east texas right next Louisiana buyo delta blues it a fusoin of 2 blues styles
Cool Gibson "Flying V" from 1958 Joe is playing. The only made 100 of them, sales were slow because it might have been too far ahead it's time. Over the years Gibson brought them back a few times with better success. That aside, give Joe a ten dollar cardboard guitar and he'll make it sound like the best guitar there is. He went from a prodigy that starting learning at age 6, went pro at 11 and opened 10+ shows for BB King and the man is only 45 now. Just amazing.
if I hear 1 more Bonamassa song whether it's with Beth Hart or Black Country Communion or even solo I will be forced to subscribe Song Of Yesterday Live

@@MacPro8CoreMan Did you notice the name on Joe's guitar? Albert King, another blues legend!
I believe it is actually Kirk Fletcher on the other lead guitar. He used to play with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, fronted by Stevie Ray's brother! 🎸🎸🎸

In case you missed it, Joes keyboard player was also Stevie Ray Vaughn’s keyboard player!
If you want to hear one of his really crazy guitar songs listen to the one called breaking up somebody's home
The horn section was from Tower of Power from the 70's

Good stuff :) Since i know you`ve reacted to Gary Moore it might be interesting to know that Joe sees Gary as a big influence on his music.
Love this vidio a 3 man up stge blues jam❤️❤️❤️
From the same concert, try Cadillac Assembly Line. Pure blues funk! All the songs from this concert are either Freddie, Albert or BB King. This one would have been a bucket list show for me, 73 y.o. music fart as well. (Didn't mean to imply the songs were written by Albert, Freddie or BB. Some were but all made popular by the three Kings!) Thank you Joe!
You may have noticed the flying V Joe is playing. This guitar actually belonged to the great Albert King.
Redemption. It’s swamp blues acoustic to hard rock electric with so much soul.
Joe is absolutely top notch! Get into some Beth Hart as well. They collaborate with each other some and it's pure magic. Some of the best music ever done, period.
Look at Garry Moore ... Excellent blues but passed gone...😢
Newsflash ! ! ! All blues guitarists play with passion and feeling. Blues is an emotion, so playing out the emotion, weather it is on guitar, piano, organ or mouth harp (harmonica for those that don't know); it will all be played with feeling and emotion, otherwise it's just as well
be some other genre of music. BTW . .
Watch jb affectionately known as jb. Woke up dreaming. Absolutely amazing ❤❤ royal Albert hall you will love it😮😮😮
Nothing better than joe
Pink Floyd began as a Blues covers band.
Reese Wynans on keys. Played with Stevie Ray Vaughn.
The piano player use to play with stevie ray
Joe may look "the Blues Image with those 🕶 sunglasses" however, he wears them because the light hurts his eyes.
Joe and Beth Hart collaborated on some great songs, you'd like. Also, Stevie Ray Vaughn may be the best blues guitarist ever. Check out TEXAS FLOOD.
Funny you should mention that Joe has a great voice (which he does, I'm a huge fan of his ) he was kicked out of a band years ago because other band members said he couldn't sing !!!! oh the irony x He seems to be doing just fine without them x
Listen to Albert kings original version. It’s really good. Joe is playing Albert king’s guitar.
Research the musicians here, they are all highly skilled professionals. R.I.P Michael Rhodes
You need to check out Joe's " Just got paid " It's more Rock and Roll style
when Joe was 12 he played with BB King, Good? yah i'd say so.
Excellent reaction. Try Blues Deluxe from Rockpalast for a different sound from Joe.

You should listen to nobody loves me like my mother on mill creek cd
Cool Gibson "Flying V" from 1958 Joe is playing. The only made 100 of them, sales were slow because it might have been too far ahead it's time. Over the years Gibson brought them back a few times with better success. That aside, give Joe a ten dollar cardboard guitar and he'll make it sound like the best guitar there is. He went from a prodigy that starting learning at age 6, went pro at 11 and opened 10+ shows for BB King and the man is only 45 now. Just amazing.
Listen to hummingbird ❤
Review Mountain Time, live version
All music comes from the blues.
Who else is waiting for Stevie Ray Vaughn reaction? 😊
Joe has 15 or more albums.
You like pink Floyd then research the origens of the band name . CLUE IT FROM 2 BLUES PLAYERS WHOS MUSIC THE LIKED

If you want to hear a BLUES voice, you got to check out Greg Allman of the Allman Brothers band "Whipping Post live at Fillmore East"!!
If you have to ask how his guitars cost you can't afford any of them
He wears Sunglasses because the lights hurts his eyes..
if I hear 1 more Bonamassa song whether it's with Beth Hart or Black Country Communion or even solo I will be forced to subscribe Song Of Yesterday Live
