The licking of the mother raccoon of her babies is not only to clean but also sometimes to cool them down in high temperatures and to keep her scent in case they go missing. It's the same with cats, dogs, lions, wolves etc

This was so amazing to see. I have never seen a raccoon so close up with her babies feeding and cleaning them. She was so cautious and protective of her babies. It was cute when she was cleaning one of the babies faces. And when she was trying to catch the flys in the beginning that was so cute.
Thank you for watching. Hope you enjoy my adventures with these amazing creatures. Please share all my videos, like, and subscribe, it will really help to grow my channel.
I found a newborn raccoon in the park the other day. It must have fallen out the tree it was near. There was a second one dead next to it so I stayed at the park until the first one passed and gave it a little grave. I wish the mother came for him.
I have a rescue that goes and comes as she pleases. Through the cat door. She got pregnant and had them in the chest of drawers, where she slept growing up. I'm wondering since she can't forage on her own, how will she teach her babies. She lets my wife handle her babies and trusts my wife "only_" fully.

Thank you so much. Appreciate the suggestion on the blanket. She doesn't want the towels or blankets in that little den. She kept dragging them out to the lower level. I figured out why... If you watch some of the other videos you'll notice how clean the inside of the den is. That's the Mother's work. I never had to clean the den. When the babies would pee or poop she would eat it right away and lick up the urine. Sounds gross I know. But I research it and that's completely normal. Having the towel or blanket in their would absorb the urine and poo then obviously have an oder and the babies would be laying in it. She doesn't that. Mother raccoons are constantly cleaning the babies. That blanket or towel drove her crazy
Moma NAWTY eats well, as do all of the raccoons i raise. Healthy, fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish, nuts and berries. along with dry Purina dog chow/puppy chow. they always have a fresh water source. NAWTY drinks a lot of water, and i give her a few ounces of Pedialyte or Gatorade every day also

You may not believe me but...... you could trigger a cruel instinct in her that causes her to kill the babies just because of your intrusive presence. I've seen it happen before.
Janet Leavy, Just an FYI... Cat food is REALLY bad for raccoons. Cat food is high in taurine, Taurine is an amino acid that is produced naturally in most animals, cats dont have the ability to produce it naturally so its put in cat food at a higher dosage to supplement their deficiency, long term consumption of cat food by raccoons can cause renal failure, kidney and liver issues
@@RonsRaccoonFunHouse Chimera is an ancient idea but is now being created in Chinese and American labs. Its a cross between a human and an animal. But don't take my word for it,look it up yourself.
Her and the babies were released. She would come out of the woods quite regularly at night and her and the babies would eat and get water. About a month after release I came outside one night and saw her laying on the ground under the tree. She was breathing really heavy saliva bubbling out of her mouth and basically unresponsive. I knew immediately what it was it was distemper. Fortunately my wildlife vet is amazing I called him at 11:00 at night and he met me at his Clinic. He knew immediately also that it was just temper he started looking her over and opened her mouth and her tongue was completely blessed and had a few chunks taken out of it. He determined it was a poisoning of some kind. Then he says you know what we have to do don't you. ??? I told him that's not even a thought at this point and asked him if there was a possibility if he could treat her. He responded and said that he would do his best and informed me but if you get quite expensive depending on how soon she would respond to antibiotics and other treatments he would have to do. I gave him the Go Head to do everything that he possibly could. Long story short it was about a 9-month process before we started seeing positive results. Distemper affects the brain and it left her with some neurological issues her equilibrium is off she can climb a tree but she'll fall out of it she loses her balance it also affected her digestive system. Releasing her would be a death sentence. So she's got a permanent home with me
@@RonsRaccoonFunHouse thank you for the explanation. I was wondering. We were advised to de worm ours and also gave him both feline and canine distemper. Only thing we couldn't get as non licensed was rabies. He's fine as are all of the raccoons and wildlife here. I tried asking about rabies and no one would budge on that. That said, I'd never voluntarily be a rehab person again, but if we had to do it again, we would know what to do. It was nerve wracking at first. Wild animals aren't the same. I loved him so much!
@@SJP429 my apologies I just came across your comment 10 months later. I agree... Both canine and felion Distemper vaccine is definitely a good idea. The rabies vaccine is always a plus if you have access to it. But I wouldn't get to worried about it if you can't get it done. Rabies in raccoons is actually really rare. In my state the last documentation of rabies in a raccoon was in 1979 and prior to that since 1960 there has only been a total of 4 confirmed cases of rabies in raccoons.
