Hi there DelMarVa. We did create this hollow log space for the critters and we have other dens that we've made ourselves and set up with cameras. The one natural den that we've managed to put cameras in is the tree stump den. They all survived to adulthood. They are probably still around. In the summer, when it gets hot, we always put out a paddling pool for the little ones and they love it. A lot of fun to watch!
I want to talk about the “jackhammer” behavior as the raccoon kits were nursing.....this is a very common mammalian nursing behavior! Some may hammer really hard (lambs, kids [goats], foals, deer, calves, and raccoons, etc) and kittens and puppies (domestic and wild) push and scratch as they nurse. Why?? _Because they’ve drained that breast and they want more milk!!_ When the babies, push, claw, or hammer, more milk production is stimulated, and they get to keep filling those bellies! When they were infants, my sons actually pushed against me from time to time when they were nursing, but they did NOT jackhammer, lol!
I grew up on a sheep farm and the lambs would almost punch the ewes when they were nursing - it looked painful sometimes. The baby raccoons amuse us because it's such a rapid movement - they look like little road construction workers.
Raccoons are wonderful little creatures and not at all dangerous (though they will defend themselves if they're attacked and they have sharp teeth). They are very intelligent, and extremely inquisitive. They investigate everything. We love living with them here. When we sit out on our deck in the evening, the raccoons come and go, hoping that I will give them a peanut or two (which I always do).
It's a mixture of both, really. In this case, a neighbor gave us the hollow log and we set it up with a camera inside, a little light, and another camera outside. Most of the time we're just putting cameras along busy trails and in or around natural dens, but some of the dens and all of the bird boxes were made by us.
@@TexasBackyardWildlife Thank you for your detailed reply!! I just have two questions. What type camera do you use and does the constant light at night disrupt any part of the adult or chick's natural rhythms? Just curious. Thank you. I adore this site. 😍
We don't know where the babies were born. Aren't they beautiful, though? The raccoons and the foxes move their families quite frequently. Maybe the fleas get bad after a while? We had a fox family here last year who moved from den to den almost every day. They had itchy little fox feet.
@@TexasBackyardWildlife This behaviour is common in meerkat families too. Supposedly, it helps them to avoid large predators. Fleas and ticks is a good hypothesis too. My guess, it is both and maybe something else.
I don't remember now to be honest. 4 or 5 hours, though, probably. When the babies are really small the mama won't take them with her. By this time of year they're quite big and they're all running around after their mamas now. They are extremely cute.
We use Dahua security cameras. They are very good. We run them through Blue Iris software. Email us at texasbackyardwildlife@gmail.com if you like some more specifics.

retrieving an escapee 😂
WE indian have never seen raccoon before. Is this a dangerous animal?
Raccoons are wonderful little creatures and not at all dangerous (though they will defend themselves if they're attacked and they have sharp teeth). They are very intelligent, and extremely inquisitive. They investigate everything. We love living with them here. When we sit out on our deck in the evening, the raccoons come and go, hoping that I will give them a peanut or two (which I always do).
Do you find optimal environments near you and then set up your camera or are any of your video areas staged and made by you"? I love your videos!🧡!
Where did she have her babies that she had to move them?
We don't know where the babies were born. Aren't they beautiful, though? The raccoons and the foxes move their families quite frequently. Maybe the fleas get bad after a while? We had a fox family here last year who moved from den to den almost every day. They had itchy little fox feet.
@@TexasBackyardWildlife This behaviour is common in meerkat families too. Supposedly, it helps them to avoid large predators. Fleas and ticks is a good hypothesis too. My guess, it is both and maybe something else.
how long at night was she foraging ?
I don't remember now to be honest. 4 or 5 hours, though, probably. When the babies are really small the mama won't take them with her. By this time of year they're quite big and they're all running around after their mamas now. They are extremely cute.
What kind of camera do you use?
We use Dahua security cameras. They are very good. We run them through Blue Iris software. Email us at texasbackyardwildlife@gmail.com if you like some more specifics.

Well, maybe some people don't like raccoons as much as we do?

This is one of my all-time favorite videos. And I think this was probably the best thumbnail we ever found. So pleased to see that you've watched it and enjoyed it.
Kits
Yes, kits (though "cubs" apparently is also used). Fox pups are definitely kits, but in both cases we chose the more common term because we wondered if everyone would be familiar with "kits"?
@@TexasBackyardWildlife cubs yes kits no some of the wildlife i have not see before until now thank you so much this is the best in TH-cam
Not voice admin👎👎👎
No sure I understand, Farid. Could you explain?
Sweet!
This video has one of my all-time favorite still shots.
this video is so precious i have some raccoons in my room wall that is a closed off chimney so i can hear the babies in there every day purring and making cute sounds so i wanted to see how they look in there this is so adorable 🥺🥺
Baby raccoons are the best. I love the little chittering noises they make, and "purring" is a good description, too. They can produce quite a range of different sounds.
Ur video were Awesome) But U talk too much...

These videos were taken in the summer of 2010, during the height of covid. I noticed they all had their masks on. 🦝🦝🦝. 👍
That's very funny! 2020, of course, but still very funny.
