  • We're still having a soft pedal issue after NUMEROUS bleeds and think the culprit is the ABS module. Our long term goal with this is to do some offroading locally and ABS is not ideal off road anyway. Our plan is to delete the ABS module after we return from vacation and HOPEFULLY, this will correct our soft pedal.

Have you fixed this soft pedal brake problem? I'm curious. I was Working on a 81 vette with the same problem, after pulling out my hair, I found (after taking the entire brake system apart) I found a cracked disc brake caliper pad on the right rear. Vettes have a 4 piston caliper. I hope that you got this issue solved since you posted this video 3 months ago. I'm a new subscriber.

Yes. Make sure you bench bleed the master cylinder first and do not allow it to run dry during the bleeding process.

I'm having similar issue w spongy brakes in my 3rd gen 1996.. What year is ur 4Runner?? bc I think from 96-98 they had to use a special service tool to bleed the ABS module because it did not interface with the main ECU.. From years 99 and up u can use a scan to to actuate the brakes ABS because it has a newer ECM and will interface with abs module. I'm still trying to locate the special tool, that's been discontinued. No luck yet, it's a pain in the ass.

I think the 2000 model is the one you are referring to. The ABS module was integrated into the master cylinder and looks very different. I’ve sold this one and I think it was a ‘99 if I recall correctly.
