    For the matter of your health and safety PLEASE put on a painter's suit...your skin sucks in more than you think. It's how our Gas Handlers in the military die from skin contact with fuels. Your health is fore sure worth way more than $100-$200. God Bless! (

      Agreed. Its not just about a mask. Even your eyes will absorb the fumes. Plus on the flip side a nice clean suit will help the nibs and dirt from getting on the finish. Just something about clear coat it likes to pull the dirt.

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did use a sanding block a lot in the video but hard to see in some of them. It’s a foam sanding block and it didn’t work as good as hand sanding and wasn’t wavy. I definitely block sand when doing bondo or flattening. I have used it both ways but prefer doing it by hand on curve surfaces but the roof ended up getting block for the final pass. Didn’t wanna make it too boring so I just speed most of it up. I could have made it far more detailed but I’ll answer as many questions as I can to make up for it.

      Rustoleum might be there under a different affiliate name.
      As far as base coat goes you might try duplicolor. I bought duplicolor's fleet enamel to paint my truck. I feel duplicolor has a better spray tip and atomizes better than rustoleum.
      Also I believe the best 2K clearcoats in spray can come from europe if I am not mistaken.
      I was going to go with the spray max 2k clear but I saw the Car-Rep 2k clear which has indefinite shelf life.
      The spray max needs to be used right away and has a very very short to no shelf life.
      In case you want to do separate parts at different times or a mistake happens you need to sand or fix before continuing.

    Just found you. Working through some of your videos. I'm really impressed that you are giving people a legitimate alternative to $5000.00 paint jobs. I have been thinking about this myself for quite a while. Paint is paint. If you can spray it on, and you have decent technique, you can get some very impressive results. Obviously a $12.00 can of paint will probably fade or chalk up in a couple of years, but I think you solved this by top coating with the 2K clear. Other than your time, you probably have $100.00 to $150.00 invested in your paint job, and the results speak for themselves. Your car looks great! Good enough for 95% of people! Would love some follow up to see how it holds up in a couple of years. Great job and keep posting!

    You did an amazing job!
    God Bless you!
    Your body work and painting through all the stages can be a spiritual meditation.
    Sometimes God in making us perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect depending on how many bad life habits we have formed through sin needs to take us through various stages of disposition.
    He breaks our pride and sinful tendencies in order to give us a new foundation.(derusting tools, hammers, air needles, cutting out rust, hammer forming new panels, butt welding, grinding, fiber glass bidy fill, seam sealer, regular bondo)
    That is the most painful part of the process as we have to learn to trust the process, humble ourselves and let go of the old and accept the new.
    Then He can start on the refinement of virtue. (Sanding body fill, filling in pinholes, taping, primer, sanding, base coat, sanding, clearcoat, buffing and polishing)!
    And if you put in the time and good will or dispositions just as the car comes out stunning so we will come out of the process shining like the stars of heaven and become a light on a mountain for all to benefit!
    Excellent work!

    I f'd up and need your help 😢 Had three beautiful coats on the car using a rattle can last night but ran outta time to do the clear. Left it outside all day today in the sunlight to cure. Came home late this evening and wanted to get the clear on so I rescuffed it with dry 800, wiped with IPA, followed by glass cleaner and lastly a tack rag before I threw on a light coat again...and it's f'ing wrinkling randomly, which looks similar to what happens to paint after aircraft stripper is applied :/
    At this point I'm skipping the clear until I can resolve this but I don't know how-to fix this or prevent it again when I do.

      @@M5JamesE39wrinkles can very easily be sanded off and re-sparayed once dried. Maybe the cleaning products didn't fully flash before you painted. Glass cleaner does seem a bit much as well. Harsh chemicals will give off toxic fumes that interact negatively with paint.

    • @_Common_Logic_
      @_Common_Logic_ 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sure you've figured it out by now, but to others going the same route; you've obviously got a TON of time and effort into the car by the time you've finished prepping and painting. It's about the least "fun" thing in the world by the time you are finished with an entire car... Don't mess it up by rubbing "glass cleaner" (whichever variation of ingredients may be tossed into your specific brand) into your fresh paint before trying to topcoat. You're only using a tiny bit of product for this stage, and they sell the right juice for the job...
      If you choose to find an "alternate" wax/grease cutter (for paintwork) research professional PAINTSHOP videos and not random guys using rattle cans with good luck and intention. Waking up in the morning just to see your beautiful finish has morphed into another week of work is heartbreaking.

      Depends on the clear coat you want to compare it to. The 8 cans are pushing $160+. Gallon of sprayable clear from speedokote is going to range from $89-$159. The cans just simplify the process but I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a cheaper option UNLESS you’re buying all the equipment too.

      Probably hard to do this as a shop as the paint will fade within a couple of years (assuming it's garaged and looked after, it will fade much quicker if exposed to sun) and it still takes enough man hours to do all the prep work that it'd not be cheap to pay for. It's more of a fun/cheap alternative if you have spare time and enjoy doing this kind of thing :)
      All that said, while it's fresh it looks very fresh.

    iv been painting with spray cans for 24 years, they can make a amazing end result if you know what to do and get lucky with the chemical reactions, some times paint just reacts bad to the base coat or even on its own coats that are half dried..

    Nice job! The price is ridiculous expensive now though 6 cans £220! (That's about 280-290usd!! ) Shame was going to re-clear my BMW. Nevermind. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

    Hey, so I’m using the Rust-Oleum 2X Navy blue on my 02 Mustang. So far the results look good but a few runs. I’ve let the car set for a couple days. What do I need to do to get them out before using the 2k? And then after wet sanding with 1000 grit, do I need to apply anothe coat of paint or can I go ahead with the 2k clear?

      The glaze or filler tecnique is great for runs and it really helps avoid break through, and its flat then clear .

    As a crafter who uses spray paint, what are your thoughts on the plastic handle thingy? Not sure what it is exactly called, obviously. I t holds the can and when squeeze trigger the spray nozzle pushes down and paint comes out. For me it saves my finger on the bigger jobs. I cant even imagine doing a car by finger!

    Is the 2K clear compatible with all of the Rust-oleum paints? Can you also color sand the clear and then cut and buff it for a mirror shine? Is the 2K clear just like a catalyzed automotive clear? How long until dust free? Thanks man. This channel is VERY inspiring!

    • @JamesDguy
      @JamesDguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I have used it with other rustoleum. I have sprayed the clear while the 2X paint was still tacky and it worked great but with this paint the painted used in this video and other videos I prefer letting it dry then wet sanding and clear like I did for best results. It can still be wet sanded and buffed for a even better shine and smooth finish like I did on my wife’s pink crv video

      The labels of each product should tell you what grit the surface has to be prepared at. Usually no need to sand (especially polish) base coat before clear, but you can wet sand (at a high grit) and polish after if you really want to make it shine. Read the labels tho, they should specify everything.

    Has anyone ever had streaks in their clear coat after painting? This was my very first time spray painting a car and I did my entire hood. I screwed up the clear coat. I laid 3 coats of base beautifully, but on the clear coat, i had difficulty keeping a wet edge, i didn't overlap far enough, and let that first coat flash too long. I thought it would even out as i added two more layers of clear coat. It didn't. The first coat of clear is still showing through as uneven streaks. I was trying to avoid orange peel, but i know my mistakes now.
    Do I need to wet sand down and paint all over again, base and clear coat? Or will polishing the heck out if it with maybe medium cutting compound help?
    Any advice will be helpful. Thank you to all who read this.
    I used Duplicolor rattle cans for the base and spraymax 2k glamour clear.
