My chiropractor showed me my xrays about 3 years ago and asked: Do you know you have scoliosis? I was surprised, but it made sense -considering the pain I began to experience. It is a small curve in the lower back and then it straightens. Now, I watch all of these videos on youtube, but it is really easy to become frustrated. I really don't know what to do, but I would like to do exercises like these.I guess I would like to know how to get into something like this in my area in Ohio.
Hi scoliosis since elementary school and wore back brace throughout middle school, currently in mid 20s. My curve was obviously moderate to severe, don't ever get the surgery unless you are a candidate for it and are in horrible unbearable pain (I know you didn't talk about that but regardless I tell people because my family has the worst backs and a lot of us have had surgery, you can't touch your toes anymore you have to bend down with your knees). I corrected over 5 degrees of my back by doing core (abs, upper and lower back, gluts/ hips) exercises on more extreme rep levels (I can hold a plank including side for at least a minute and can do 100 crunches without stopping). A lot of this is to train your back muscles to force your spine in position. I recommend an orthopedist over chiropractor because many people with scoliosis also have off arm or leg lengths as well as hand or feet crookedness (respective if arms/ legs are off. My legs have a 1in difference). And then they can tell you all the physical therapists they know you can choose from. Remember every spine is curved differently (even in family inherited scoliosis). If the curve isn't so bad they may even tell you to just do some target exercise for lower back. To sum up see an orthopedist so you know other areas aren't affected and you can get a more accurate curve diagnosis. Then if need be see a physical therapist the dr recommends has specialty. Ask for exercises you can do that you don't need this level of monitoring and therefore not have to add something else to your schedule and can be done on your own time. The curve may never 100% go away (also depends on degree if you lived your whole life not knowing and you are in your 20s plus I'm assuming its slight to moderate) but you can live without pain. I am the only family member to look at my scoliosis in the mirror and say I'M GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOU!!! And I no longer have pain like my teenage years plus I have a cousin who had physical therapy and did nothing at home she got corrective surgery and we were both born in the same year and had similar degrees of curvature. My doctor and my father see I am not going to have the same problems like him and his family but if I don't do that high level rep of training, stuff that needs to be monitored like this video is the next step. If yours isn't that bad you may not need this level try intense at home core workout stuff first. Perks, I exercise enough I can eat what I want!

The exercise in the video is truly a game changer for anyone with a scoliosis. I'm a 40°+ double S idiopathic scoliosis and this really relieving tensions in my spine, the muscles in lumbar and dorsal region and opens the side of the trunk which badly needs it. Thank you for showing this. One question: in case of S double scoliosis, shall I repeat the ex on the ball but on the other side and in higher dorsal area?

+Afnan Amro not sure I didn't do x-ray to measure after using this exercise but I feel a better flexibility when doing it together with other stretches and core strengthening. Scoliosis can be depressing but it can definitely be helped with regular exercise.
Hiya Gene, Sorry I just saw your question just now. Yes, these techniques make a lot of sense and is important to the angular practice of scoliosis. I don't get to practice this technique all the time as I do a lot of other stuff but I am going to get back to it as soon as I can. :) You should definitely make it a regular practice to open up the concave side of your curvature however do be certain which side you should be working on. :)

Wanda Johnson i have scoliosis too, tell me did you had big problems with your heart? I have it from 13/14 and now I am 16 and I am starting to feel pain in the heart
I share this experience with you Wanda. No surgeries for me. In my teens and early twenties, I refused to accept this condition even though I walked funny. It hit me when I started having children. I could not get epidural and had all 3 without any spinal injection. It is the grace of God! Now in my late 40s, I have periodic spasms when I over do activities. I soak in Epsom salt and alcohol- the next day, I'm movable again. I'm learning how to stretch to help as well. Just know, you are not alone.
Revieyy Revieyy periodically I feel like my rib cage is shifting to the left. I have a S- shape with Convex on the right. Went to Dr. but he said it does not shift...I don't believe that. Oh, x-ray taken last year shows lower vertebrae fused on its own so there is a bulge in the lower left hip now. Praying for miracle healing by the Grace of God.
I have an S curve about 60%. I have been to doctors and therapy. The spine is rotating and my ribs sit lower. Lower back fused by itself. I am very careful when I do my exercises.
Hi: I can not make recommendations on individual cases without performing a physical examination. In some cases it may be in other cases no, depending on the cobb angle and other factors. Feel free to show the practitioner this video to see if it is appropriate. Cheers!
Hi Anna: Exercise is critical for anyone, including anyone 65 and over. That being said each case is different. I would check with your health care practitioner to see what is appropriate for your specific case. Cheers!

@Brian Abelson what happens when an S-Curve, flips where it was concave to convex in both places?? I saw that on my latest x-ray after an assault. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Hello @Nick-gq2iy, Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in our scoliosis exercises video. While I'm unable to provide specific medical advice online, I can share that scoliosis is characterized by a variety of curve patterns, commonly seen as 'C' or 'S' shapes on an X-ray. These curves can sometimes change in shape or direction due to various factors, including trauma. It's crucial for changes like the one you described, where a curve flips its concavity, to be evaluated by a healthcare professional who can perform a thorough physical examination and interpret your latest X-rays in the context of your full medical history, especially after an event like an assault. Scoliosis is complex, and its management is highly individualized, requiring the expertise of specialists who can provide the appropriate care and guidance. I strongly recommend consulting with an orthopedic specialist who can give you personalized advice and treatment options based on your specific condition.
@@kinetichealthonline thank you, Brian. I should be meeting with an osteopathic surgeon soon. I’m just waiting for the information. I’d really rather a more holistic route if possible, though. The idea of metal in my body, even fillings, is so not my thing.
No matter what type of scoliosis, in most cases the best position is for patient to sleep flat on their back. We usually recommend they use of pillows to fill the gaps between the back and the mattress help to keep the spine in a more neutral position. Please note this is not a recommendation for your particular case. I can't make specific recommendations without examining the person. Cheers

I hope these exercises actually straighten the spine. I was just diagnosed with painful scoliosis. I am desperate for some relief. If anyone has had success straightening spine, please let me know in the comment below. I could use the inspiration and encouragement,
You cannot straighten the spine you will have to strengthen the muscles and keep them strong to support the spine. Get a PT who knows scoliosis someone who has actually studied the condition and a good chiropractor who know how to treat someone to with scoliosis. Key is , Exercise Exercise, Rest and don't over do anything.
I'm a little dubious about the 1st exercise on the ball because the ball is rather large. If she has an S shaped curve this could be problematic for the curve in the lumbar because this exercise is putting pressure on pretty much the entire length of her back to include the lumbar and not just the thoracic area. I've seen pretty much the same exercise in another video where they use a medicine ball which is smaller, targeting the curve in the thoracic spine. If she has no curve in the lumbar then I would think the 1st exercise in this video would be appropriate. But it could be crucial to make that distinction, and not push the lumbar curve in the wrong direction if only the thoracic spine should be targeted. Thanks
Thank you for your insightful observation. The choice of ball size and its placement is indeed crucial when addressing specific scoliosis curves. You're right; the larger ball impacts a broader section of the spine, potentially encompassing both the thoracic and lumbar regions. Using a medicine ball, as you mentioned, can more precisely target the thoracic curve due to its smaller size. It's essential to tailor exercises to individual spinal curves to ensure efficacy and safety. I appreciate you highlighting the importance of making such distinctions. However, I'd like to emphasize that without a physical examination, I cannot provide tailored advice. Always consult with a healthcare professional when considering exercises for specific conditions.
Recommendations for patients with S curves can vary greatly, depending on many factors. Sorry, but I cannot make recommendations on individual cases without first doing a thorough. examination. My recommendation is for you to a see a doctor in your area and see what is appropriate for you. Cheers
does this just relief pain or actually would have affect on a curve and decrease the degree? I wanna be a pilot for Turkish Airlines and they disqualify people with scoliosis above 20 degrees. I don't know what my degree is (my scoliosis is not visible from outside even without shirt) but I don't want to risk it.
Hello @gillik7801, Thank you for watching. Unfortunately, I cannot provide advice or comment on specific cases without performing a physical examination and taking a complete history. Generally, scoliosis exercises can help relieve pain and might have an impact on the curvature, but it's essential to get an accurate assessment of your condition. I recommend consulting with a healthcare provider to understand your specific situation better. Best regards, Dr. Brian Abelson DC
Does this explain why I am bigger on the left as suppose to my left side? When i'm doing weights, my left side tends to well more defined than the right side, my left side is longer also than the right side and it's hindering my bench and other exercises
ok, I only just found out after years of back pain, just found out my I have a slipped disc and now a 10mm curve on the spine. How does neurological then have anything to do with my scoliosis?
By slipped disc I assume you are saying protruding or a prolapsed disc. In such cases it is common to have some degree of nerve root entrapment. This in turn can cause muscle spasticity, and numerous compensation which create abnormal motion patterns.
Hello: I cannot comment on specific cases without doing a physical examination. I would recommend you see a physical for specific advice. A curve of 50 degree should defiantly be looked at by a professional. Cheers!
So upon watching the last exercise I am a bit confused as for what the other person should be doing? Do they move my legs after I am in the plank position? If so how far or was that just for the videos viewing purposes so the viewers could see better? He puts his hands where exactly & does what?? Idk does anyone else possibly know? Thanx I’m a little baffled over this

Here is a quote from Cleveland Clinic. "The majority of cases of adult scoliosis can be managed non-operatively through regular observation by a doctor, over-the-counter pain medications, and core-strengthening exercises to strengthen your abdomen and back and to improve flexibility. If you smoke, it’s important that you quit. Smoking has been shown to speed up the degenerative process. In most cases, your doctor will recommend some forms of physical therapy, to both maintain strength and relieve pain." Wanda Johnson i have scoliosis too, tell me did you had big problems with your heart?
Excellent
Thanks
I have an S curve about 60%. I have been to doctors and therapy. The spine is rotating and my ribs sit lower. Lower back fused by itself. I am very careful when I do my exercises.
is it best execise suitable for 10 yr old child also
Hi: I can not make recommendations on individual cases without performing a physical examination. In some cases it may be in other cases no, depending on the cobb angle and other factors. Feel free to show the practitioner this video to see if it is appropriate. Cheers!
Thank You, excellent video and exercises , the next videos could be subtitled in Spanish. Please .
The problem with these kinds of stretches is that even though they give immediate relief, my back can go into spasm later on.
Every case is so different. Thanks for the comment. Cheers
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Does this also work for older people over 65 ?
Hi Anna: Exercise is critical for anyone, including anyone 65 and over. That being said each case is different. I would check with your health care practitioner to see what is appropriate for your specific case. Cheers!
Thank you .
I'm going to try this! Thank You for this video 😀
Hi I'm 27 years old, I have 18-degree scoliosis, I have numbness on the left side of my body and my right leg, loss of strength, back and back pain, Does physical therapy relieve the pain and lethargy in my body?
Hi Zardest: In many cases it does help a lot. I can't comment on individual cases without doing an examination. That being said, here is good article on Scoliosis from Physiopedia. Cheers www.physio-pedia.com/Scoliosis
Thanks 🙏
I have scoliosis I think I should start doing this its so painful meds don't even help for pain.
perhaps these exercises will help you :th-cam.com/video/4hWZz9I-XGk/w-d-xo.html
Hi Doc, where is the best sleepinh position if I have C scoliosis. Hope you will notice my question
Cheers
Уважаемый доктор спасибо огромное за вашу работу. Было бы хорошо, если бы с вами работал переводчик.очень хочетмя все послушать и правильно понять на русском языке

I hope these exercises actually straighten the spine. I was just diagnosed with painful scoliosis. I am desperate for some relief. If anyone has had success straightening spine, please let me know in the comment below. I could use the inspiration and encouragement,
Physical therapy helps. It won't cure it though. It relieves the pain and pressure.
You cannot straighten the spine you will have to strengthen the muscles and keep them strong to support the spine. Get a PT who knows scoliosis someone who has actually studied the condition and a good chiropractor who know how to treat someone to with scoliosis. Key is
, Exercise Exercise, Rest and don't over do anything.
Any progress? I just found out I have scoliosis and I'm in need of encouragement please...
@@kinetichealthonline Indeed, you have to know how you're own back is curved. A consult with a health professional would be the 1st step. Thanks
Hi...if the patient has S shape scoliosis,, where should we put the foam?
Recommendations for patients with S curves can vary greatly, depending on many factors. Sorry, but I cannot make recommendations on individual cases without first doing a thorough. examination. My recommendation is for you to a see a doctor in your area and see what is appropriate for you. Cheers
does this just relief pain or actually would have affect on a curve and decrease the degree? I wanna be a pilot for Turkish Airlines and they disqualify people with scoliosis above 20 degrees. I don't know what my degree is (my scoliosis is not visible from outside even without shirt) but I don't want to risk it.
Hello @gillik7801,
Thank you for watching.
Best regards,
Dr. Brian Abelson DC
Does this explain why I am bigger on the left as suppose to my left side? When i'm doing weights, my left side tends to well more defined than the right side, my left side is longer also than the right side and it's hindering my bench and other exercises
Hi: Being bigger on one side or the other may have more to due with neurological dominance not spinal curvature. Each case can be different. Cheers
ok, I only just found out after years of back pain, just found out my I have a slipped disc and now a 10mm curve on the spine.
Amman Ahmed did you fix it ?
good job
Good vids ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for posting this
Excellent work
This is nice and effective.
Thankyou so much for this😭
I will try this :D
Se estira la concavidad de la escoliosis entonces es escoliosis derecha el apice de la convexidad
my soon with 50 degrees can this exercises help him to reduce the degree
Hello: I cannot comment on specific cases without doing a physical examination. I would recommend you see a physical for specific advice. A curve of 50 degree should defiantly be looked at by a professional. Cheers!
@@kinetichealthonline where's can i find you to treats this case?
We are located in Calgary Alberta Canada. With your curvature reaching 50 degrees I would be referring out to a specialist. Cheers!
Hey how long does it take with these exercises for the scoliosis to be cured?
The objective is to stop the progress of the scoliosis and in some case reduce the curvature. Cheers
@@kinetichealthonline Hi, can functional scoliosis be cured, if one maintains a good posture in future ? Thanks
so good
So upon watching the last exercise I am a bit confused as for what the other person should be doing? Do they move my legs after I am in the plank position? If so how far or was that just for the videos viewing purposes so the viewers could see better? He puts his hands where exactly & does what?? Idk does anyone else possibly know? Thanx I’m a little baffled over this
Hi Amber: Here is a more recent video that we produced on Scoliosis. Cheers

+Brian Abelson Thank you!
I have had scoliosis since when I was 11 years and am now 30, every time I complain of pain, the hospital I go to the doctors says that scoliosis doesn't hurt 😢😢 and I look like a liar
It's quite unfortunate that many people, unless they have personally experienced back pain, struggle to truly empathize. However, don't let that discourage you; remember, in a significant number of instances, exercise and manual therapy can offer considerable relief. Cheers!
Are you trained in Schroth?
No I am not trained in the Schroth Method for Scoliosis.

mine is 's' shaped
Does it work at the age of 50?(48° degrees)
Here is a quote from Cleveland Clinic. "The majority of cases of adult scoliosis can be managed non-operatively through regular observation by a doctor, over-the-counter pain medications, and core-strengthening exercises to strengthen your abdomen and back and to improve flexibility. If you smoke, it’s important that you quit. Smoking has been shown to speed up the degenerative process. In most cases, your doctor will recommend some forms of physical therapy, to both maintain strength and relieve pain." I would showing this video link to you physician to get their opinion in your case to see if these exercises are appropriate. Cheers my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/15837-adult-scoliosis
