  • Any day on the water is great. However, fly fishing the local Gunpowder River can be challenging. On this trip I was able to catch a dozen or more trout using Euro Nymphing Techniques on hand tied flies. Hopefully you can pick up a trick or two about approaching water, fly selection, and more. Tight lines!

Hey Mike! Thanks for the video really enjoyed it. Having practically living on the GP this summer it was fun watching you fish where I had enjoyed many a day. Once the winter freeze sets in it will become my winter home. What a wonderful resource. Continued success and Tightlines my friend!

Dale! Happy Birthday my friend. I hope you got out for it, or will soon. Thanks for watching an commenting. It was fun sharing the water with you in the summer. Who knows, maybe we will reconnect in the winter again. I tend to do the same thing as you. Hit it hard when it is the only game in town. Tight lines!

Thank you!! I enjoy your stuff as well, have binged quite a few of your videos. You catch a lot of fish on the swing, something I don't do enough of I think. I do it frequently in the spring with bugs, but not enough year round. Tight lines and keep growing that channel!

Hey Teacher! Great day on the water with some great narration. Good approaching in that skinny clear water. Hope you’re doing well. I’m back on stream for a little then I’ll be chasing pheasants soon. Keep having fun brother. Hope to catch up soon. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻.

Nice video Mike. I’m pretty much up on the GP weekly at least. I have a fly tying question since I don’t tie my flies. I’m guessing a size 14-16 nymph is going to have a size 3 or so bead. Correct? At times I find myself having to sink my sighter in those deep holes. And while I hate to use split shot I will try to use a heavier fly on my dropper to get the flies to depth. You, Old Dominion Trout Bum & Trout Bitten have been a big help to me over the 4 years I’ve been fly fishing.
    Best,
    Tony

Hey Anthony! I am somewhat jealous you get up there weekly. I am about 2-4 times a month myself. However, most come in one weekend of guiding and then maybe one personal trip for myself.
For your question, i tie most like this:
Sz 14= 3 up to 3.2 mm bead
Sz 16= 2.5 up to 2.8 mm bead.
Dealers choice on what you buy/like. Those are just the "usual" sizes. Some oversize as well too, but I usually don't.
I sink my sighter occasionally, though rare. If I want to get down I change bead size and tippet length. Sinking the sighter can induce drag and a more limp connection, so you may not always be getting down deeper, depending on size of bug.
Thanks for the support and I hope to see you out there!

do you mind sharing a general location of this stretch? Not looking for exact spots but just so I can have an idea of what area to fish. Love the vids!

      Hey Luke,
I was in the upper area of the catch and release of the Gunpowder. The main three areas worth trying out up there are Falls Rd, Masemore, and Bunker Hill. All of them are good sections. Have fun out there and thanks for watching!

Sent this to my son in law who happens to be left-handed! Line management and weight management are the two factors he needs to improve on! I think this may help! Hope your guide business is doing well!

That's awesome! Thanks for watching and sharing. Im sure for some they don't like I am lefty, because it doesn't fully apply to them. Hopefully he finds it helpful and enjoys. Line Management and Weight are the difference in good to great. I know a lot of my time on guide trips is helping to teach at least one if not both of them. Guiding has been awesome. I love doing it and the people I have served have been great. I have two this weekend and then two more in November. Might take one or two more out if people book. Regardless, it has been a great year. Thanks for the support!

Hey Jerome! I appreciate you stopping by to check it out and leave a comment. I was shocked by not seeing another angler. I typically pride myself on getting away from the herd. On this day I ventured right into a prime location many flock to, and it was on a fairly nice day. Tight lines the next time you hit the stream!

Another gem of a video - I enjoyed the commentary about choosing a particular spot as well as when to make weight adjustments. Thanks for the effort Mike!

    • @tightliningmd
      @tightliningmd  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Glen! Good to have you dropping by to watch and comment. The weight adjustments in that spot were so critical. Based on flow and wind it seemed like the only chance I had to get consistent fish. Sure enough something as small as a .2mm change netted 3 more fish. Pretty cool! Tight lines my friend!
