  • Meal planning is a homemaker MUST. I can confidently say that meal planning makes my life easier, keeps us within our budget, and produces better meals for our family. Join me as I share our dinners of the week. We're making Instant Pot beans and rice (a very frugal, but satisfying meal), ambrosia salad with lemon pepper chicken, homemade hamburger helper, pizza, and baked potato skins. My daughter also makes dessert.

Hi Jennifer these meals look delicious. The potato skins would also be good with the scooped out potato flesh combined with butter and your All Season, the bacon and grated cheese then stuffed back into the skins and put back into the oven to get bubbly. A twice baked potato. Thank you for the meal inspiration. Have a lovely day 😊.

All your meals looked great! Hope you're receptive to another tip. It is much easier and safer to cut your peppers skin side down. Your knife will go right through them and there's much less chance of cutting yourself. Thanks for sharing.

I'm a new subscriber/watcher of your videos. I just purchased your book Lessons from Madame Chic and am half way through it. I have cleaned out my closet and will try the 10 item wardrobe this fall. I'm in Northern CA so we don't get cooler weather until November. I purchase a black dress and I have two long but thin material scarves. Can you or do you have a video on how to wear scarves so that I can make more of my black dress. ...you wear your half apron but I slop stuff all over when I'm cooking. I wear an apron everyday for cleaning and cooking but my aprons aren't as pretty as yours. Enjoy your videos. Can you do one on how you met your husband?

Great job as always. I just found you recently. I have been doing a capsule wardrobe with Vintage McCall pattern dresses since high school. Everyone teases me but I am short AND have an hour glass figure, so Jeans with a blouse or tee-shirt are uncomfortable and depressing for me. You remind me of how my mother raised us. I absolutely hated homemaking and cleaning when I lived under her roof. Now, after being on my own 13 years and married I have a new appreciation, especially being digital soldier in the Cold War against Pedos on Twitter, where I deal with very rough subjects on a daily basis, it's nice to turn on Debussy and an apron an make a sanctuary of a home with lovely meals. Thank you!

Hi Alexia, I have been following Jennifer for quite some time and she to reminded me of the way my Grandmother inspired us. It is sadly hard to find like minded communities these days.
I loved what you said about dresses as I have the same body shape and at 36 I have finally committed to a style that is true to me and not fashion. I have made a few dresses but would love to know what pattern numbers you use if you don't mind sharing ❤

If it makes you feel better, I have had that same juicer for about a year now, and apparently I’ve been using it incorrectly the whole time! Now I know, haha! I just ordered beans and brown rice from Rancho Gordo, since all my friends rave about them. I’ll have to try the instant pot recipe for beans and rice when they arrive.

@@prueconnelly3904 I find any dress that has a defined waist, since thats my smallest section . I just used a few of these below and I used floral jersey knit, so it stretches, flows and feels like PJs! I do make shorter, than directed because I'm small and live in Phoenix az, and its hot! So I usually cut below knee, to tea legnth.

Your meals are always so delicious and healthy looking. I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel, so I hope to be more inspired when I resume cooking in a couple (or 3) weeks! I also want to let you know that my new counter tops will be pure white, thanks to Ben! I loved them in your kitchen, and I can't wait to get mine. Although I was planning on a quartz counter top, I don't think that I would have thought of a solid white. But, after seeing yours, I was smitten. One more thing. I've had a lemon squeezer like your for years, and I've been doing it the wrong way too, apparently! So, another tip from you, Jennifer. Thank you for a wonderful channel, and I have all of your books, except for the one for children. I'm way past that age, and no grandchildren yet.

    Thank you for sharing 💖
I always feel like I have a much better week when I've taken the time to meal plan. Like you I use a recipe as a guide when cooking something new but always put my own spin on it so it goes down better with my family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

One of our current favorite dinners is rice bowls. Everyone puts brown or white rice in their bowls, then tops it with grilled sliced chicken, chopped crispy back, avocados, shredded cheese, roasted vegetables, sliced onion, chopped tomatoes, pinto or black beans, etc, then salad dressing of your choice. Crowd pleaser!

Hi Jennifer,, I think the black bean dinner looked amazing. I’ll have to give this a try and oh my goodness, my Gramma used to make Ambrosia Salad. I always loved it with the exception of the shredded coconut she added. Loved this video. Enjoying the series.

I grew up eating ambrosia salad too (only at family gatherings, baptisms, or bbqs)! But our family's recipe was a little less healthy - way more marshmallows (and they had to be rainbow marshmallows), no coconut, canned fruit, and definitely sour cream! Best served the next day, when the marshmallows had a chance to get nice and soft. They would melt in your mouth! And I remember being so happy that it was served as part of the meal and not dessert. Love the idea of adding pineapple, I'll try that next time I make it. ;)

With the hamburger frying I always drain the grease and use a paper towel to dab the hamburger. Makes it more heart healthy

Salad should really have quotation marks around it. It's more like a dessert that you eat with your meal. The fact that it's called the salad lets you know that it really is from the fifties or sixties. 😆 We used to make one with Cool Whip, cottage cheese, sour cream, nuts, marshmallows, and any kind of red Jell-O powder. I can't imagine eating it now, but I used to love it. I've been paleo since about 2013, so there's very little in this video that I can eat, but I'm trying to get in the mood to meal plan. Jennifer makes it look easy.

The version I have been served is just canned fruit and whipped cream, not much sugar in it either ... Sometimes it was served as a dessert, and sometimes with cold ham and similar.

I think most people don’t actually understand the definition of the word “salad” which is why comments like this occur.
A salad is a dish consisting of pieces of food in a mixture, with at least one raw ingredient. It is often dressed, and is typically served at room temperature or chilled, though some (such as south German potato salad, or chicken salad) can be served warm.
“Salad” has become synonymous with “garden salad” or “green salad” which just isn’t so.

I imagined hamburger helper was a type of commercial seasoned breadcrumb. American food is so interesting.
