Thank you guys for the amazing advice! From what I’ve been seeing the most common thing is to use a higher heat setting, so I guess I will need a new flat iron. Any suggestions?

Just use the Tymo. It’s way easier and will go way faster. Also you don’t flat iron your hair often enough so that’s why it will be puffier when you do it yourself. You’d need an extra hand to maintain the pressure on the iron at the ends but since you’re holding the brush it won’t be consistent to the ends

If you want something budget friendly, the Conair Ceramic Tourmaline Infiniti Pro is one of my favorite flat irons and has never done me wrong in all the years I've used it. If you're willing to pay for something more professional grade, I'd suggest you look at either the FHI Heat Platform or the Sedu Revolution.

I noticed that you used the Color Wow spray, it truly is amazing. I just did my first ever silk press and it helped my hair fight frizz and make my hair silky & straight, BUT you have to use the one with the black cap that says “extra strength” on the bottle. Thats one meant for straightening curly hair!!! I think using the wrong one played a role in the results.

Hey Brittany 👋🏾 I normally don’t comment but I’m going to tell you exactly why it’s puffy because I did the same thing when I started doing my own silk presses. Your hair has to be damp when you blow dry it. Because you waited 2 hours before actually blow drying it, it took in all the moisture you let sit on it. Don’t let it sit. Wash, condition, rinse, towel dry, heat protector, silk treatment (bio silk), blow dry w/ attachment slowly (I normally do it warm on high), then flat iron ( I don’t do anything above 425, I’ve gotten a good press on 400) and you should see better results. Hope this helps!

Your hair is alot similar to mines. My hair wouldn't straighten completely out either and I thought it was a lost cause so I just gave up on it until I went to get my hair done professionally. My stylist gave me some really good tips that helped me out alot at home. You should start by doing smaller sections at a time, use some type of heat protectant, make sure that you blow dry your hair completely straight until you see no more puffiness. It should look like you already have a silk press with just the blow dryer and I know you don't want to go up on your flat iron, but for the look you are aiming to achieve, you just might need to. If you have to do multiple passes that means the heat is not up enough. I know you are scared of damaging your hair lol I was too, but believe it or not you are doing more damage by keep going over it with the flat iron. You also need a really good flat iron too. I know these things really worked for me. 🙂

My stylist uses 450 on my 3c/4a hair…I use to freak out about it because I thought that was overkill but she does 3-4 shampoos and two deep conditioning treatments as well as steam to prep my hair and she uses spray leave ins as well as humidity blockers and my hair reverts. Because you take great care of your hair I think that might work for you. Healthy hair can withstand the heat as long as there are no oils or heavy products on the hair.

You also should wrap your hair tighter and with a silk scarf tied tight and flat. Bonnets are not going to preserve a silk press, they will keep your hair from snagging on the pillows but you need a scarf underneath the bonnet to secure your wrap. I loved the way it came out when you put the curls in!

Silk press temperature needs to be over 400 degrees
Look up what tools to use as well
You need to do a deep condition under the dryer after your wash
For extra body use saran wrap for the finish
So wrap it up then apply saran wrap
You can go back under the dryer if you like then let it fall down

Heyy girl! I think you actually did really well on your hair even though it didn’t turn out the way that you wanted, and I can understand the frustration. It sucks when you put effort into something and it doesn’t go as planned. You honestly did do pretty much every step correctly, or at least from what I can tell because I am not a professional. But I do have a lot of experience silk pressing my own hair, which is why I hope this tip might help:
Like everyone else is saying, 410 degrees just probably isn’t enough unless you do even smaller sections which is very time consuming.
But mainly, I feel like if you did some research on how to properly wrap your hair after straightening would help. Personally, I have never been able to wear my hair right after straightening it because it just swells up. I always have to wrap my hair for at least a few hours or over night for it to look silky.
I would suggest not using a bonnet, but a silk scarf (or even a durag) because a bonnet has too much empty space and air that just encourages the hair to swell, and does not allow your hair to be fully slicked around the head which is key when wrapping straight hair at night. For me the first night of wrapping my hair is the most crucial because if I am able to get a nice flat wrap with my ends completely laid to my head, then it makes sure that is how my hair sets. This usually gets rid of puffiness for me. I think the perfect time for you to do this would have been here after this step-> 51:20
I also think that the curls you did looked so pretty and sleeping in pin curls or flexi rods is a great way to preserve them.
Anyways, I apologize for how long this comment is lol, but I really do hope that it helps. Years ago when I stopped relaxing my hair and cut off all the damage, it took so much trial and error to get my hair to look nice in a silk press again, but I finally have it down with my natural hair. I just want to see you succeed girl! Can’t wait to see the rest of vlogmas❣️

Too much product and not enough heat. Heat protectant doesn't need to be reapplied. Try to get the blow dry extremely straight as it makes a huge difference. If your hair is reverting, it isnt 100% dry. I usually do a paddle brush dryer then round brush to get my hair straight and dry AND THEN I flat iron.

    • @britttanyrose
      @britttanyrose  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

It was completely dry when I was straightening it but it just wasn’t getting super straight if that makes sense. The color wow made sure that it wasn’t reverting. But I definitely agree with the heat.

    • @TinaB111
      @TinaB111 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

@britttanyrose I understand that it may feel dry but the puffy results are likely due to humidity still left in the strands. I used to have this exact problem and it only stopped after I started double blow drying on damp hair. (I let it airdry for a while first.) The blow dry should be pretty much straight, and the flat ironing should silk it out. Hope this helps!

I have thick type 4 hair as well and getting a good silk press can be hard. Based on your process the only critiques I could make are less products and more heat. The more products you put in your hair the more of a barrier you're putting between the heat and the hair strands. I only use tresseme heat protectant before blow dry and nothing else after that. For heat I use 450 all day. My hair does not get heat damaged because I don't silk it out too often.

Your hair is beautiful first off. As a natural that heat styles often and have maintained my curls, you actually do need a different flat iron. That particular one has too much variance between the heat settings which is why you mostly see stylists using it for curls after straightening with a different flat iron. If your strands are coarse (thick) then you might need to use about 430 to get your hair straight which you cant do with that flat iron. You can try the ultra thin one with wide plates since your hair is long. Next, your ends were frizzy because you need to cut more. Naturals do tend to avoid trims and cutting bits and pieces here and there usually don't get all the ends off which results in frizzy ends that you can't see while your hair is curly but they tell on you when it's straight. A few other tips is to apply your product to wet hair right out of the shower. Dont let your hair dry in the towel before going in with the blow dryer because the more dry it is the less smooth it will get. Another issue is that you applied the Chi heat protectant first. It has alcohol in it. That's not bad but it wouldn't be my first product. Start by applying a good spray leave in like the pureology one then go in with the color wow. Apply the chi before flat ironing. I hope it works out for you. Your hair is healthy and its ok to practice every few months until you perfect your technique. Best wishes.

Hey Brittany! Love your channel! Your deep conditioner probably has a humectant in it. Humectants will pull moisture out the air (moist or dry) into your hair, which causes the puffiness. Next time, try a deep conditioner with "hydrolyzed silk" or something similiar. And I would also recommend a ceramic flat iron, not titanium. I hope this helps and I look forward to the future videos 🥰

I have hair texture like urs that puff up when u do a silk press u have to use a clarifying shampoo, a smoothing or straightening conditioner and maybe a heavier product and hotter temp also when u do the chase method with the brush u need to have that brush close to that flat iron it will actually polish ur hair with one pass. Then wrap ur hair with a silk scarf tie it down tight. Just for the first night. Another method if ur worried about too much heat, let ur hair dry for a few days then blow dry while it’s dry. Since my hair is getting longer I put mine in a low ponytail then band it like the Africans. 2 days later I blow dry then flat iron. Instantly silky.

I think you need to use a better shampoo and conditioner. Try Suave shampoos or dawn dishwashing liquid to get the butter residue off your strands completely. Also Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo will get rid of it (It=butter residue). Dove Intensive Repair Conditioner gets your hair really silky soft and conditioned after shampoos stripping butters off, which you will see in the blowdry. DOn't use biosilk WITHOUT using a dish soap or Suave extreme stripping shampoo like Tresemme. Your other shampoo clearly leaves a film on your hair because of your using butters, which is the problem. The silicones in biosilk react with the butter residue on your strands. Which is why your left with that brassy greasy blowout look. Your blowdry let's you know how silky the silk press will be. I live in ATL Chmablee area and my water is pretty good, I don't know about your water quality but you can look it up.

I'm loving your products and can't wait to see results from using them constantly. I'm sorry that your results weren't what you where looking for but I truly believe you will get there. Just a few tips that may work next time. First: 410 degrees should be good enough. The only thing that I noticed where you might have gone wrong is too much biosilk. Instead of using a dime size for each section, maybe use that amount for your entire head. Biosilk is very concentrated and will make your hair greasy and heavy. But stay positive and don't give up.❤❤❤

Awesome video thanks for your transparency. Because you use butters your hair shaft is coated with the product even after washing it. Try cleansing your scalp and hair shaft first. Olaplex is a great option. Never put a heat protectant on your hair after washing it your leave-in conditioner is your heat protectant. Next, you only need to use either the wow or the chi not both products. A good temperature to flat iron is 425-450. You should always cut your ends up to the breakage especially if your only cutting once a year. The biosillk or any other serum should go on last after you flat iron. Lastly after wrapping your hair putting a shower cap wil seal the bonds of your hair and give it that glow and silk that you want.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying that it stinks, but it doesn't smell like I though it would. Other then that it's awesome and you're right I dont have to put a lot on my hair which is awesome. I love it can't wait to try the oil.

And I don't see their hair down to the waistline, Especially in this video. Where the title says waist length.

You have a ton of positive comments. Why waste so much time replying to me? If you felt like I was trying to be shady. That comment was made 2 weeks ago and you're still in your feelings about it. I'm convinced this is a deeper issue within yourself not my comments, And before you say, "black women" are shading you, Remember it's just hair any black woman can grow long hair, If they choose to, I've had long hair all my life, And no it wasn't wait length it was about the length of yours, Which I decided to cut because it no fun, But anyway, May god bless you sweetheart.

lol yeah I put curls if I mess up and it doesn’t go all the way like a silk press but. I know we go for less heat. When my hair is wet I will flat ponytail it to back super flat and braid the rest down. Let it dry by air. This will allow the root area of your natural hair to be more straight once you use the blow dryer after it air drys. After I blow dry section of 8 and patience. Run through with pressing comb first. Then flat iron on the same sections with higher heat. Plastic wrap it and sit under the dryer. lol a lot but it’ll be beautiful.

@@britttanyroseI know everyone has an opinion but you are me sis. The 2 things I just did in 2023 that kept my hair straight was to buy a (babyliss) titanium flat iron.. the black one at Sally's different from the blue one (I bought 2 of the blue ones and they did not work 😕). To my surprise i straightened my hair on 395 😮 and it worked, blew my mind. And, the color wow also made difference. Lastly, I recommend a silk scarf because it'll flatten your hair. I honestly wonder if you took a shower with your bonnet...that steam will do damage quick, which is why you need the scarf with your shower cap. Hope this helps.

You missed the most important part of a silk press, the pressing of your hair.
Here are the steps to a silk press: 1. Wash, 2. Conditioner, 3. Blow dry, 4. Press your hair (it has to a hard press), 5. Flat iron and style.
S/N If you don't have a pressing comb you can purchase one at a beauty supply store, Target, online, or anywhere they sell them. There are two kinds to get electric or the regular one you put on the stove or in a portable plug in stove for pressing combs.

My hair does the exact same thing. My parts couldn't get any smaller and My flat iorn could be on west hell and it will still puff up. Me personally i accepted that my hair doesn't want to be bone straight. Straighting my hair just makes the flexi rod sets better. I will admit that my hair could have been dry (only washed and treated monthly /now wash twice a week /sweat dries out my hair) and my blow out technique is better since the last time straighten it. I have seen some girls use grease to Straighten their hair. That might weigh it down just enough without it looking greasy (if you use alil bit) im afraid to do it on myself, honestly. Cant wait to see how your flexi rods come out.

2 out of 3 of the products you put on your hair prior to pressing it are very HEAVILY-based silicone products, on top of you not using enough heat for your hair, the little heat you did use could not penetrate through those heavy silicone products. The best way to get a true silky press is to use nothing but heat protectant. I do a deep conditioning treatment BEFORE I clarify my hair twice thoroughly. If your hair isn’t deep conditioned prior to your wash, the silk press is basically pointless. Going forward don’t use biosilk until after your hair is silk pressed if you want to add shine to it that is the only purpose biosilk serves. Never use that during the press trust me that’s where you went wrong.

I think your issue may be that you're not actually doing the entire process of a silk press. 1. You need higher heat as suggested by everyone else. 2. You need to actually wrap your hair tighter and neater. wrap it in plastic wrap and sit under cold hooded dryer to seal your cuticle. Even though it's winter and your apt is cold you're in a room blow drying and flat ironing so the atmosphere around you is hot enough to swell your hair which is why it's puffy. 3. When you wrap your hair for the night it should be alot neater and b4 the bonnet you need something like a stocking that is going to keep your hair in place and compressed. You're leaving way too much room under the bonnet for your hair to become messy. Your hair is beautiful and I hope those tips work better for you next time❤
