One of the only people to actually do a good job of showing people how fast the boat is actually going. Most people will post footage in first person view of them riding the boat on the middle of a lake as if it's even remotely easy to tell how fast someone is going like that. Thank you for actually showing people what they would like to see.
And some people will point their camera directly at the motor, then the floor of the boat, then their own face, then back to the motor, then a half second glance at the shore, then back to the motor, then a shot of their foot, the boat seat, their anchor, then the video ends.
I had a similar set up that I gifted to the neighbours kids. If you move some weight forward, you’ll go a lot farther on a charge. I used a piece of 1 1/2 pvc pipe on the tiller and sat in the middle seat.
I have a 40 year old 14ft speedboat in Greece which I saved from the scrapheap and restored, it's on my channel. I've been looking for an auxillary means of propulsion in case of a breakdown (oars won't cut it 2 miles offshore, and there's no space to mount even a mini petrol outboard as spare.) These electric trolling motors appear to be the answer, I could clip one to the plate on my existing outboard and steer it with that. Thanks for sharing, I can see from this that it would be enough to get me back to the shore.
if the boat made it off the trailer and back on the trailer, your boat launch skills are good enough. in several years, you will be good enough to make fun of other people.
Yes i agree , nice you showed how fast the boat going. Im keen on buying a 46lb thrust motor, simlar sizrme i guess and id be happy with that speed. Mine will be on an inflatable tho, i wonder if it will be quicker as yours is a heavier boat. Happy enough tho, cheers for upload
Had a 12-foot MFG. Little glass tri-hull. These boats are great for two guys on small water. Fished mine for years and sold it to a guy with a big pond. We have a few electric-only lakes and reservoirs. Stay off anything that can kick up. Growing up we car-topped my buddies father's 12-foot "Gamefisher". No trailer needed (cars were bigger back then).
Looks good! Just what I needed to see. I'm building an 8ft. flat bottom boat for fishing and I picked up a 40 lb. thrust Minnkota for it. That should move it along pretty good according to your rig!
Get a deep cycle Marine battery And play around with the depth of the prop had a 56 on mine it was fun wind is not your friend but love the sound of aluminum in a light chop
Looks good to me. I like the price too! The electric trolling motor is easier to live with, as well. Plug in the battery, turn it on and off ya go. No fuel to mix, no starter ropes to break, no spending an hour just trying to get the thing to run....it just goes. Nice. 👍
I have an Intex 5 person inflatable with 20lb thrust trolling motor. Here in the UK regulations are way over the top, otherwise the setup like yours is ideal.
Worth it all day long. 12 and 14ft tinnies are probably the worlds' most common boat. Now, get yourself a tiller extension and sit in the middle for best trim and safety.
Yeah that’s a great set up I had to buy a 9 foot dinghy it was used I got it off of somebody and that actually came from West Marine as the classic dinghy I got it for 500 bucks and I went to buying one of those motors that you have new on Amazon that was only about $125 and that was shipping included it and those things were great! I go all over this one little pondI was so impressed those little motors are great I need to ask a decent amount of time on the battery
I like it because I believe in keep it simple and affordable to fish. I have fished out of all types of boats in my life and I have caught more out of a Jon boat then any other boat.
Me and my uncle go trolling in a similar set up, 40lbs pusher but we can only get about 5 hours before the battery goes flat ( marine deep cycle.). We take it out out on a lake that's too big for our setup, 1.25hp in 18in rollers definitely makes the butt pucker. I picked up a LifePo4 battery 100ah so hopefully that'll buy us more seat time and panic thrust when the wind comes down the valley. Looks like a delightful place you have there. 👍
@@WoodboogerFishing yeah, I absolutely have my head down a swivel, I don't want to get swamped. Most of the people out where I live are super considerate that way but some just don't see you.
An alternative that might be less expensive would be to get two Group 24 or 27 batteries from Walmart for like $60-$70 a piece, and wire them in parallel (pos to pos, neg to neg). It'll double the capacity of the battery while maintaining 12 volts. Should be able to troll around at least 5 hours on that setup.
@@WoodboogerFishing actually craziness has happened. My friend was cleaning up a quonset hut on the farm and he found an 18 ft starcraft aluminum from 1975. He asked me if I wanted a boat and I'm like "sure, how much do you want for it?" And he's like " nothing, it's free for you to take away". So I now have a 140hp StarCraft and I bought a 60lbs seamax electric for trolling, my family is so happy with it. 😂 downriggers and a fish finder. Absolutely a massive upgrade in quality of life.
Great video bro. Just picked up my first boat 14’ Cadillac, found 30lb thrust trolling motor at Walmart looks like it’ll work. Now just have to get a trailer, a boat plug, and figure out how to set it all up and get it to the water. Just got into bank fishing last year and never had any experience with a boat so wish me luck. Add suggestions. For me the motor he had is more than enough. I’m just looking to get to the other side of the water from my fishing spots. Funny how it always looks like those are the best spots.
Super nice boat , I think I've owned more boats than cars never happy if I had to do it all over I'd buy one similar to yours although more noisier than plastic or fiberglass aluminum more durable and the floor won't rot out.
Gets you out to the fish and back to the dock what more do you want? Several of the places I go you have to row (To much like work) or use an electric motor
It’s a trickle charger I got at Harbor Freight for $15. Figured it couldn’t hurt to have a little extra. That was full throttle. I didn’t want to waste time showing the slower speeds.
I went with an Excursion 5 for that very reason. A sturdy inflatable that fits in my trunk. Got a 55lb Newport trolling motor now just need a good lithium battery and floorboard mod.
When I fish for about 4-6 hours it always works for all the trolling around I do (it died once when I didn’t realize it hadn’t charged before I took it out) I have a small gas motor now though for longer distances but mostly use the trolling motor while actually fishing
Got her in the water. But didn't pull the trailer weels out all the way you will want to pull it out so the berrings stay as dry as possable. nice little rig
I’m using a 101ah Walmart deep cycle marine battery. This boat is a 12ft v-hull so I imagine it would work for a flatbottom too. I may eventually do a lithium battery for the weight reduction
Your prop is super weed resistant. But if you don't have weeds a two blade rc aircraft prop will get you further, faster, use less battery. You're looking for a 8" to 10" prop, with a 4" to 6" pitch. They're dirt cheap so you can take spares in case you meet weeds. Loads of videos about this. Also, good oars. Rowing is fast.
I’ve run it off and on for about four hours and it never got low. The one time it died, I found out the charger had a loose wire. Other than that I’ve never run out of juice
I have an 11 foot starcraft with a 6hp mercury. Kinda scary when you first pull away from the dock but it does good. Got caught in some 18 foot breakers one time, it handled fine.
Plenty good enough for fishing. I've fished for 60 years and never felt the need to roar across the water. I fish with a 10 ft kayak. I am adding a trolling motor though.
Your "mediocre" boat launch skills are better than 99.999% of the Miami ramp boaters who have expensive debt-financed boats, zero skills, and tend to be the dregs of humanity in how they behave.
