I have to give credit where it’s due. You are the reason why I have bought so many different JDM reels. You take your time to analyze and give your honest review of each one. I know this isn’t a JDM reel, but your reviews are great. I appreciate the time, money, and effort for these videos. 👍🏻
Four internal brakes on with a 1/2 once lure is over kill, strting with two brakes on makes sense. I would set the spool tension knob to free spool with a slight wobble. Then start with the external brake set at the middle setting 3 or 4. Then go up or down from there, in order to free up the spool to the optimum setting and use your thumb.
I don't get why people don't let their spool tension be att completely free with minimum play.. cast so much better than all videos showing how to set it up. When I did this change, the reels just worked a lot better than following the guides on TH-cam. Spool tension ist meant as a brake, you tension it so that it is free rolling with minima side play possible AND THEN use the brakes..
Silent tune differs from low-end to high-end but Shimano doesn't seem to differentiate. The SLX silent tune is just some rubber washers. Whereas the Bantam has the spring with a bearing. You'd have to look at the manual to see what version they put in this.
you could cast a little farther with those reels if they weren't overfilled. if you took off a little bit of line, just so the top edges of the spool is just visible they would cast even better.
I gotta video idea for ya… make a tier list of all the Shimano baitcasters for us. Maybe do different categories such as BFS reels, deep cranking or just best overall 🤷🏻♂️. I’ll leave that up to you, the professional, it would be cool to get your opinion of what’s the best of the best for the money or whatever. I struggle to find them in stores to get a hands on feel of them and would love to know your opinion of what’s best for whatever application. Just a thought brotha, either way, love the content you give us!
@@agnosticfreedom9926 The Bantam A is smashes any Tatula, or really anything at or below the Bantam's asking price. It's basically a mini Conquest that you can get for $250 from Japan
I'm a swedish pike fisher, would like to see these reels casting big swim baits for us pike fishers, my jerk rod that's only 30-80g won't throw a halv ounce frog on any day. Could you please redo the casting test here with larger 2-4 ounce baits? What I cast are often 2oz to 3oz. Could you please please please please do a video of that?! I'm buying one but don't know which to choose..
Just put in my order for the 200m. I currently have a 150 mgl. Looking to put 40- 50lb braid with 30 lb mono leader for swim jigs. I assume both would be pretty good for the task.
Wait, what is this magic trick casting setup? Turn all brakes on and set external to highest and just adjust spool play? Can you please elaborate on that a little more?
The Curado E was my favorite color for the series. Mostly for the reason that probably 95% of the reels on the market are black or close to black and also silver.
Anything Shimano with an MGL spool (doesn’t matter 1,2, or 3) is going to cast a mile. IMO the MGL spool makes a bigger difference than the DC chip. For anyone looking at a Curado, I highly suggest the 150 MGL. It’s an absolute workhorse & hard to beat at the price point. I actually prefer it to some of the more expensive reels.
And I think Jdm reels are the best for 150 it feels so smooth cast well and I love the push button for them if you can get Antares dc or reaglur one or you can get a SLX one or curado or scorpion they are all good but if you like dc sound go for the dc Jdm if you like light reel go for Jdm reels too they should start selling Jdm reels in USA and have ever Shimano reel a USA instead of you have to look it up and buy it from japan
That is for the retrieve. Gear ratios. Spool spins x times per handle rotation for x amount of inches a handle turn. I think the difference here is the MagnumLite spool being lighter. It allows the spool to rotate just a little more, with less resistance on a cast.
If you had a $200 maximum reel budget and could only buy one reel, any brand, which reel would you buy? I have a 150 mgl and really like it. My yearly Black Friday reel purchase will have a $200 limit and trying to decide if 200 m would be an upgrade over the 150.
Get another MGL…The M is gonna cast a little further & is beefier than the 150 MGL. Maybe a little more geared towards bigger baits. Also, thumb bar design is a little different on the M. Hard to beat the 150 MGL at your price point. Honorable mention: The newer Daiwa Tatula 100 TW series is in your price point & highly recommend. Make sure it’s the new one though with the hyperdrive. Honestly, you make get one so you have both brands if don’t have any Daiwa already. You might end up liking it more than Shimano, a lot of guys do.
@@CaesarSmithFishing I have two Daiwa lexa hd 300 reels that I love, which are the only Daiwa’s that I own. I have heard so much about Daiwas coming shipped with very little oil/grease and I’m apprehensive about getting the new one you described
I've heard they are better at casting larger weights, I will cast minimum 2oz and maybe over 5oz, and that is where it shines from other reviewers. I'll be using it for pike fishing here in Sweden. More than adequate for that.
Have you done any videos with the new Lew's Pro & Elite reels? Particularly against the Shimano & Daiwa reels? EVERYONE is strictly Shimano these days and it drives me nuts. LOL
I recently picked up doyo coba rainbow iv which should be the equivalent to the elite if not a step higher. Its not a bad reel if your a lews fan. It is quite light and I like the hook keeper option it comes with. Not sure if the lews version has that though. It's smooth enough to be good but isn't shimano or daiwa smooth. Haven't done a cast test with it but from what I've seen on the comments on videos its average. I definitely wouldn't take it over a shimano or a daiwa of the equivalent though. At that price you are in the zone of an antares and steez. Nothing wrong if you just wanna stick a brand you like but it would be delusional to say its better than others especially when it isn't. The only thing I can think of is the drag as shimano and daiwas tend to be on the lower side.
@@THEREELTEST I honestly bought it for collectors value lol. From all the korean videos I've seen and tried to read translated, it seems to be a solid reel but the competition is just too high at its price. It is also a bit of a hassle to get compared to jdm reels out of the country. The nice thing though is that you can order it to come with a deep spool, shallow spool, or super shallow spool.
Noticed "the tick" when you reel fast; the knobs have freeplay, which wasn't surprising with my tatula, but shocked me when I heard it on shimano. They probably do sell knob washers to aid that problem?
I think the k is still way better more smooth better looking and I would rather have a SLX dc then the curado m cuz m is so ugly don’t feel right to the touch and I feel like the k would last way longer by the touch of the material
I think that is all in your head, this is shimanos best seller and they would never never go far from what currados have been. Just because it is their best seller. And, it isn't very much changed under the bonnet, still all is the same except the silent tune o-rings.
@@THEREELTEST I rarely use breaks. Lews and Diawa will out cast the Curado K all day every day. I just expect longer cast at that price point. Hopefully the Curado M is improved.
@@THEREELTEST okay ! But that’s not been my experience. I had a Curado k and sold it . Because everyone of my cast were shorter than what I was use to. Affecting accuracy mostly. You probably had the spool tension to high... The spool should not have any tension on them, turn it so that the spool is without tension and the most minimal side play in the spool possible.
