Shimano dc reels are great, especially for skipping under docks and casting into the wind. By the way, (at least for my slx dc), 4th setting on the brakes is for skipping, fishing light lures, and stuff like that. The 3d setting is for fluoro, 2d setting is for braid and mono, and 1st setting is for bombing lures to the middle, and you’ll need to use your thumb

I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
The DC reels are set up different you want to set to dial on the right side to where the spool barley wiggles and the brakes according to the line you’re fishing with.
Dead serious that is the exact Max z I've had for 3 yrs it works so good and so reliable. Love that reel. Plus Dev keeps saying his Max z is plastic bro mine is a tank it's like solid steel plus it's a 7:1:1 pretty much the same as my slx DC. I also have a Diawa tatula and I'm telling you the Max is one of my favorites

Hey so with the dc reels, you are supposed to loosen the reel tensioner to where it can almost wiggle back and forth. That’s where the chip comes in

I have two DC reels, Norm you need to read the instructions on how to set the tension it's not with the weight of lure dropping. To get it to work correctly you have to set it so the spool just wiggles, it's why you had backlashes so many times
curado DC was my first bait caster. i love it and still do. i fish a ton and i had to replace it as my go to reel a few weeks ago. picked up the scorpion DC out of japan◡̈

norm with the dc reels they have special settings for different types of lines 4 is for no backlash (highest brakes) 3 is for flouro 2 is for mono/braid and 1 is open

You have to pack down the drag hood on the curado dc, I hook set on a 3 pounder with the goto gold and the drag still slipped locked down, also this reels are the dc 4 which means they have 4 brake settings and for flurocarbon put it on 3, just for future reference
The drag is supposed to slip, if it didn’t it wouldn’t be a drag 🤔😂🤣

For Shimano baitcasters they recommend that your tighten the spool tension knob to where the spool doesn’t make that side to side movement or shake

I grabbed a Max Z spinning combo from Walmart and I got to say it's pretty decent for the price. I've had a cheaper combos from Walmart that have lasted years so I'm not surprised that the Abu Garcia is still decent being at Walmart

I bought a diawa aired x rod and a bass pro shops $85 bait caster made out of metal.
It's smooth as butter.
Then I decided to use my diawa Laguna rod which is okay, and an Abu Garcia black max 3 reel. It's not as good as my other combo and there is a noticeable quality difference between the two.
So I watch y'all buy like these $200 bait casters which costs as much as my whole combo.
I can only Imagine how much better the quality is on those expensive reels.

I have a Revo Torro Beast from Bass pro. The reel was $400 and iconelli rod 8ft was $150. Never use it much and a $550 combo that just sits. The revo beast does come with 2 extra reel handles for speed changes

I had the same issue and thought the same thing when it comes to Dicks without a fishing section. I went into the very 1st Dicks without a fishing section and I asked an associate why and she said it was because big tackle store were very close by. We had a Cabellas and a Bass Pro very close to the store. So I literally left and they're on my do not go into list bc they don't have a fishing section.

I have found the best way to use my SLXTC is no sport tension and have it on the second break setting.
In New Jersey I’ve seen the fishing sections being renovated in Dicks to much bigger and more organized.
