  • This is the first movement of Sonata No. 2 by Eugène Ysaÿe. It mimics themes from the Bach Prelude from Partita No. 3, and also from the theme of Dies Irae. Special thanks to Jacob Reuven and Alon Sariel for helping me with this beautiful piece!

ASTOUNDING, you can play that super-virtuosic violin stuff (I have an ancient recording by the late Oscar Shumsky) with such ease, precision, and feeling, with a flat-pick, no less. You are truly amazing!

left hand, right hand, and dynamic range are excellent, hard work pays off. You're on your way for an inevitable renown figure in classical music and the mandolin world. 9.5/10 for this Partita No.3 (I can't give 10/10 to anyone 😉)

What an interesting piece. At first I thought you were practicing a stream of consciousness of some of your favorite licks. :) And the acoustics were great too! Thanks!

That part is a nod to the violinist the piece was dedicated too. Ysaye knew the guy practiced like that.
It’s also a nod to Bach, because he wrote those bits originally.
I’ve been listening to Hilary Hahns Ysayes sonatas and they are really incredible. (This performance was also really good) Check them all out if you like this!

@@phil6419 I've had to come back for another listen several times. It's chock full of starts and stops and gear changes in the middle of phrases. I've had to laugh out loud at a few spots where it feels like stepping into an alternate reality.

Thank you very much! I love playing in this stairwell because of that same reason.

Mandolin sounds great with the natural hall reverb:) Really cool piece and beautifully done! I also learned this on mandolin and it was my first TH-cam video. But I’m mainly a guitar player…

I am a guitarist and thought I am pretty good with my plectrum. But, I clearly have lots to learn! And this tune is beautiful, too. Thänks!

I think I've already seen it similar in the hands of other mandolinists, was it made by a luthier or is it on the market?
      It's truly a beautiful instrument.@@mandolinprincess3382

This mandolin is called a "Double Top" by its maker Carlo Mazzaccara.
