    One of my most precious memories is a road trip in Spain in the late 80's. I was driving north on an almost empty stretch of motorway not to far from Burgos. It was early in the evening and above the Pyrenees you could see the first lightning flashes of a summer afternoon thunderstorm after a long hot day on the plaines of Spain. I switched on the car radio and on some local Spanish station they started to play the Adagio from the Concierto de Aranjuez, performed by Paco de Lucia. To me that was the most "Spanish" moment I ever had, if I can call it like that. Pure magic and this music always takes me back to that moment. p.s. I still come a lot in Spain on motorbike.

      Something similar happened to me when I was visiting Barcelona. Was taking in the architecture of Gaudi buildings when suddenly I started hearing this music coming from around the corner.
      Went to see, there was one guy sitting on the side of the walkway, with classical guitar who was just sunk deep into the music. Time kinda slowed down around him.
      Can never forget the first time I heard this arrangement, that too in Barca. Was akin to seeing Saturn through a telescope for the first time ngl, something words can’t explain.

      @@limoneSl I've heard it so often and from so many guitarists and everyone thought they were unique with it... For comparison or as an example of the craftsmanship, listen to *Modern Saga* by Finnish guitarist *Joonas Widenius* here on TH-cam - or listen to *Winter solstice* by *Estas Tonne* -
      THAT is real art in my eyes, new and differently independent art in the area of southern/spanish music.

      I think this sounds better than the version with orchestra. The guitar soloist in that version puts in too many fills and extra notes instead of letting the previous notes just fall. It detracts from the melody. I would like to hear a version with just an oboe and guitar (Marco playing of course).

Your skill and emotion makes it all look so easy, yet I know that it is not. It is what sets you apart from many others. You hold the guitar with love. As an Englishman, I now live far away from Europe due to the British stupidity of Brexit and your playing makes me so homesick. Nonetheless, I have learnt Zen and purpose of being. Rodriguez I believe held something similar. Yet I had to travel 7,000 miles away from home to find it. Thank you Marco for sharing this tutorial. Never doubt yourself. There seem to be many myths about the origin of this masterpiece. A quick online query reveals the otherworldly origin of the piece in Rodrigo's own words; simple and elegant. I always prefer string instruments solo to appreciate the nuances and emotion. Too many are technical players. I grew up listening to Paco de Lucia as we both aged and evolved. I have his and a Romero version. That satisfies me, but this solo version is special.

    Thank you, Marco! Since my childhood, I have always said that this, the 2nd movement of Rodrigo's masterpiece, is the most profound short piece of music ever created! From MJQ with Laurindo Almeida, to Miles Davis, John Williams, and countless others, there seems to be agreement on this. I think Rodrigo would be the richest composer in history if he got even a small fraction of the monies due him from the covers of this piece! I hear it everywhere, in every genre, usually unattributed.

    Reaches into my soul.......
    I first heard Concierto De Aranejuez many years ago and didn't hear it again for about 40-years. When searches became available on the net and music was available. I started again to look for it but I didn't know its title and it took a few more years to run across it. Another bit of music that haunted me was a Chopin piece from 'Five Easy Pieces' and again it took many years to find out the name of the piece and the composer. Additional note: I have studied classical guitar, but I set it down due to the hours I would spend on just one piece, one phrase, so slowly see results. I have seen the original version performed by Christopher Parkening with the orchestra, and have listened to may other classical guitarist (e.g. Andres Segovia and others). I never tackled the original composition due to not being able to do just with the tremolo. Such a beautiful melody, and with this simplified arrangement I can enjoy playing this beautiful piece for my enjoyment. By lowering the key to F it opened up the basic melody to be played so openly. Thank you, Thank you! You have no idea how much I am enjoying this refreshening approach.

    • @BalooBear
      @BalooBear ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correction: My reference to the tremolo was actually with a different piece called Recuerdos de la Alhambra. The Concierto de Aranjuez a beautiful composition and I was thinking that there was more tremolo in it, but mostly just beautiful Spanish chord progressions with the rapid sequence of notes that almost sounded like tremolo. Thank you so much for providing this simplified version. I will challenge myself to this version. Thank you!! Sorry for the confusion, I am an old man....LOL

    I remember hearing this music for the first time and it was dramatic as emotional. The melody is quite tragic and brings to the surface tears of appreciation.

    Not many players could have done this version and made it sound like magic!!!The hardest when play complicated songs in simple chords is to make it sound good. You have to train for months as a beginner. Do you want to learn one song or start from begining as a guitarr player. In one or two year continusly playing and training you are good to play lots of songs as you progress to a good amateur, Then after this its up to you if wanna get great:) Love youre videos and that you give great lessons.

    I had the privilege of listening to Segovia perform at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago in the early 1970s, instilling a lifelong love & appreciation for the classical guitar.

    I agree with Marco. In terms of beauty and emotion I can't think of anything more beautiful than this. I don't think anyone should judge you for playing your version.

    Truly moving, I have subscribed after listening to your playing. Thank you so much for breaking it down to a more simple version. I'm trying to learn a little classical. I play for my own enjoyment and sing and play by the campfire :)

    This is lovely once again, Marco. Achievable but still beautiful. It's the way you play it of course, a classic example of the much overlooked mastery of 'it's not the notes, but the way you play them' :)
