There's an absolute epidemic on mental health for young men Mark, so you are doing a tremendous job talking about it.

Respect Mark, It's amazing to hear you talk so openly about how you feel at times, It's taboo & ain't something people talk about due to being ashamed and being ridiculed, Keeping your self busy helps to a degree but it can stress you out even more, finding a happy balance works, things like exercising, reading, spending time with family all help a little, words we use to say to others sometimes don't help eliminate that horrible feeling but it's a start, you know others can relate so that itself gives us some kind of comfort.

It's so easy to suggest things like 'pick up the phone and call a friend' or 'go out for a walk', but when you are so worked up/agitated/anxious or whatever mood it may be, it is so difficult to think rationally and pragmatically when you are in that emotional state of mind.

It happens to me all the time, My bad day is Monday I have anxiety and I suffer with it and makes my body and my mind feels very tense and nervous and sometimes I want to run home although there is no threat of anything I still want to go home and hide. I’m very open with my problems too and I lose my concentration and forget important things.
Man United games also don’t help especially with the Liverpool game coming up with half of my family and some of my friends are Liverpool fans. I know it’s not personal abuse but when we lose I feel like I’ve lost too it’s awful.

Please anyone that feels down and depressed please please please speak up and talk to someone there is help out there and people do listen and they will understand and they will help u in taking the right path to helping u control your depression and illness.

  • @MurrayHerts

Hey Mark not saying the following is the the case for you or anyone else, just something I've realised for me
I've long suffered with anxiety, ocd and a general apathy towards life. I have IBS (mostly just severe bloating) this year I started on a low fodmap diet and I also had some blood tests done and sorted out some vitamin deficiencies and I feel so much better, more energy and more positive
Something like the above, an intolerant diet or deficiency can cause you to be fatigue and fatigue makes you so much less able to deal with stress and stress makes your mental health in general worse
Basically Fatigue + stress = bad mental health = feeling more down and stressed = more fatigue = bad mental health and it's a bad circle like that
Making sure you're physically healthy is far from a fix all for mental health but it certainly helps you have the energy to deal with stress which is a trigger
Also was interesting to hear about your police work but I can imagine that didn't leave the best memories to be left to deal with.

I went to school with a guy who had everything - recently married to a young wife, a 6 month old baby, a good job, a new Mercedes, his own house. Lot of family and friends around him. He had done lots of travelling to southeast Asia and Australia too. He had a good life. His new wife is a beaut. But then completely out the blue a few months back... he jumped onto the railway tracks as a train was coming. Took his own life at 23. No explanation whatsoever to his friends and family. He just did it out of nowhere. So his family have no closure as to why he did it. No signs of depression or any indications that he was suicidal. So there was no warning or nothing anybody could do. Apparently police found evidence on his phone, or a device, indicating that he had been planning to kill himself for months, but I don't know if this is true.

These means provide us short-term solutions but fail to deal with the broader issue. Try to understand the reason behind why you might feel upset and work on your mentality towards those stressful triggers
