  • Mark Goldbridge meets Laurence McKenna, co founder of the Kick Off with The True Geordie, and asks where it all went wrong?
From creating one of the forerunners in independent fan content to it's untimely end Mark Goldbridge discusses with Loz the impact the Kick Off had on fan media and how he feels about The Club, The United Stand and the current state of play in football fan entertainment.
0:00 Introduction and The Kick Off beginnings
15:03 That moment True Geordie said what he said
25:14 The origins of The Club and why the all left?
40:18 Are Loz and True Geordie still friends?

Something a bit different. I love this industry and this is something I'd been interested in for a long time as a big fan of the Kick Off in it's original conception. Fair play to Loz for being open to doing this and I think it's a fair appreciation and story for everyone involved.

As someone who’s spent 1000s of hours watching Mark, Brian (True Geordie) and Laurence, this was a brilliant podcast to hear. I think Laurence chose the right person to sit down and talk about it with. I hope Laurence and Brian can find a way back to each other, they were an unbeatable partnership when it comes to podcasting and streaming. Even if they don’t though, they’ve got an incredible back-catalogue of work that will stand the test of time, so thank you to both of them for giving us that over the years. ❤️

Laurence was 50% (minimum) of TG’s channel in my mind. The reason it worked so well is because they really bounced off each other, similar senses of humour but with different delivery. Brian the straight-talker and Laurence with the sharp wit, the comedic value was excellent.

It's probably why he got hammered so much as well - people perceived, rightly or wrongly, that he thinks very hard about what he says and does, so had a hard time believing he didn't just calculate that moving quickly on was (in his mind) the best chance of keeping everything from blowing up. Not that I think a throwaway wayward comment deserved a cancellation, it's not as if Brian was ever held up as some role model or paragon of normality. Great discussion! One thing that really stood out to me was when Mark you talked about where football-related podcasts, videos and more are going. I agree with that and I'm tired of how many of the videos are something along the lines of "the most underrated 11" and I'm not personally interested in forced arguments created in the style of television, but real conversations between people without fake arguments and shouting

I listened to this video completely and I have seen Mark Goldbridge in a whole new light. His business mindset is why he is able to have such huge channels.
The comments he made about certain “fan channels” going onto Sky etc. to be used for clips is very true.
He forgot to mention certain fan channels who changed their ways so they can appease to these bigger corporations instead of being themselves. So sad.
