Sorry guys I don't have a GT Omega Apex to test this on any more, but looking at how it works on the PSC I'm sure it will be fine! :)

For those wondering, we tested with the F-GT Lite in our original CSL DD video. Confirming its about the same amount of flex as you're demonstrating here :)

Maybe the csl DD sits further back on the mounting plate vs the Clubsport? As I don't have that much front/back wobble, but with my back issues and very little assembly on the f gt lite it was the easy choice. Upgrade to a proper DD wheel/cockpit one day.

CSL DD mounted to a Playset Challenge... an ultra budget motion sim! Brilliant!
In all seriousness though, I'll be mounting one to a wheel stand come September, hoping to do something similar to your GT Omega ART strengthening. Should be a big improvement over my current G27.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I love about your channel. No frills, just proper reviews of equipment that the majority of people can afford to use in combination with one another. Thank you!
There are apparently some half decent kits out there that strengthen the Playseat's wheel mount and pedal mount. There's some kits with reviews saying they're perfect for wheel bases like the CSW, which was also 8Nm of torque.
I'm going to be combining the CSL DD, Playseat Challenge and this strengthening kit to see if it's any good. Will report back in 2024 when my Fanatec gear actually arrives!

Well, I think I'm convinced. After watching many of your comparison videos I think I'm going with a Playseat to pair with my new CSL DD. The F-GT looks nice, but I think the Formula position is just too low for a desk setup (which many probably will have). The slim and quick foldability of the Playseat have sold me, on top of that cattle grid vibration. Thanks Karl!

I run the csw 2.5/8 NM of torque on my f gt lite with very little flex in the lower formula style set up. Super sturdy compared to the playseat, but also takes a bit more space for the pedals and a reclining chair. I'd say it has a few advantages in sturdyness over the playseat if you have a bit more room.

Just upgraded to a progressive spring on my G920 pedals. Makes a lot of difference. There are also DIY arduino-based USB adapter guides over the web, so you can use the pedals independant of the wheel base. That makes the Logitech pedals quite an interesting entry-level set I might say, apart for the potentiometer wear. :) Anyways, it is nice to see the "good old" G920 again in a video. :P

Thanks Karl for the great video! All you need are two broomsticks or something similar in 30cm and 15cm diameter sawn to the right length (measure the height of the wheelbase plate from the floor +0.5cm for tension), 4 wood screws for the centre bars and an adjustable furniture foot. Maybe some black paint to make it look nicer. At least with the T300 nothing wobbles anymore and as a nice side effect the pedal mount of the Loadcell pedals stays on the floor even when braking hard. All in all, it didn't cost me more than 20 euros. Unfortunately I don't know if I can link pictures here.

This actually is really clever. Is it possible to put the supports on the arms instead of the plate for better movement freedom?

    • @Robbi532
      @Robbi532 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@iFBNm8 I have not tried this but I think the most important thing is that the plate is stabilized. When you push the steering wheel up and down, the plate is the part with the most flex. What also helps a lot is to stabilize the seat itself. Especially when it is on a soft surface (carpet).
I have two narrow flat wooden plates (60cm long, 10 cm wide and 1cm high) placed lengthwise under the chair legs. So the seat is very stable and does not wobble back and forth. And that is also all quickly put away when you want to put the seat away ;-)

to me it seems the flex you have is up and down, i dont imagine it would flex from left to right a lot. but even if it does, it's still your own muscle force against the FFB that could eventually bend something, so you'd still feel the force, i think it would rather create (small) inaccuracy in your steering.

Hi Karl. Love the honest vids. I’m thinking of picking up the new GT7 fanatec wheel. I have to use a playseat to keep it out of the mrs way. What I can’t find on you tube is how anyone has eloquently bolted the CSL pedal set with load cell to it.! The strap simply won’t work, I can see that. Perhaps you could have a fiddle with your csl pedal seat and playseat and post up a vid??

Great video as usual ! I have that setup and I was wondering how many screws and which position of the plate you use. Since I only find 2 compatible ways of attaching the csl to the plate and one of them tmstays to close to your chest when you are driving. I had to turn the plate 180 degrees and use only 3 screws.

Hi, thanks for the video, cool to see that it can work even with 8nm! I’m thinking about getting a F-GT lite as I need it to be foldable. Looking at either getting the TS-PCRacer or this to go with it...What would you recommend? I would use the DD with 5nm as I’m not bothered about the extra torque but idk whether the wheel would come too far in towards the chair and would be uncomfortable and the DD would only be held by 3 instead of 4 bolts? (So idk about long term stability?) I’m sort of leaning towards the TS PC racer as I’m more confident it will work with the F GT lite ok...I don’t want to waste money if the DD isn’t really suitable...but I’m open to opinions.

Three bolts holding it is fine, certainly at only 5nm.

Good content. I have the 1 class higher Playseat evolution and honestly i am not very happy with it anymore and i got this wheelbase incoming early next month. I allready had to custom make support bars for the pedal plate because it flexed super hard with loadcells on there and now with a Higher NM wheelbase inc i am thinking about going to a higher class sim rig alltogether.
This playseat stuff is good for entry level Thrustmaster & Logitech stuff, anything above that i am not really sure honestly.

I got the Playseat challenge Actifit a few days ago. The one and only problem I have with it is the headrest is angled too far forward and it gives me neck pain. I was using the Next Level Racing GT Lite for five months and the playseat replaced it.
But what I've done is swapped the pedal mount from the GT lite to the Playseat challenge thing. It bolted on to the playseat perfectly. I also swapped over the wheel plate attachment.
I immediately felt that the FFB felt much better with my T400 on the playseat than the GT lite.
My next move is to buy the stiffening mods for the playseat.

Just don't put loadcel pedals on it. I have done that, and it still works after a few days, but I can feel that one of these days I will destroy the seat. The wheel works fine (it moves but works). The pedals is a different story. Also I have the pedals almost at max range, Karl has the pedals very close to him. So I am thinking that I am a bit longer than he is. This maybe contributes to the wonky feeling I have with the pedals.
But for everyone who wants to use loadcell, and dd wheels for that matter, I highly recomend to buy a stronger cockpit that the playseat. It is a matter of time before (at least in my case) the seat falls apart.

If you could please do a review with the DD Pro with just the 5nm power supply on one of the gran turismo series (7 or sport).

I started with a playseat with a logitech g29. Budget I know but needed to try using wheel. Playseat really good apart from constantly lifting up whole wheel to exit or enter . But when sat in position and wheel locked in it was solid . Very noisy exiting or entering. Lots of noise from sraps and velcro . But for money a great start to sim racing . Fortunately I've now upgraded to a omega prime rig but it was Playseat that I first tried that gave me the will to upgrade . Still waiting for fanatec to restock grrr. Honestly if you want to try low budget seat using wheel and pedal to see if you want to try it. Then this was great product . 1 last thing I'm 6.5 tall . Yeah pedals can move away far enough for me to get good position . But because wheel can't lower or higher I felt a tad crampt

Forgot to mention , when your finished racing, the whole thing can actually fold down . Without un bolting or undoing either wheel stand or pedal stand . It fold down to quiete a small space . That can either be stood up straight or layed down . Over all this intro seat is pretty cool

There's a kit on Ebay if you look up playseat challenge, a guy from Korea 3d prints 3 super sturdy reinforcement brackets to help its movement. I'm putting my Challenge X together right now and have them for it but I wont have tried it without them. I'm not sure they would affect front to back falling forward though.
With that said, I can't figure out how you got 3 screws to mount. Maybe the non-X has a different bracket (id be surprised). I can only get 2 holes to line up. The 4 screws i need to use where the rotating bracket is are off center from one another.. so i can only get 2 lined up. Also I'm short so I really wanted the wheel to be pushed all the way forward. Instead we have to put it almost all the way back. Maybe it wont matter when I get going..

  • @Yesterzine

I'll probably just got with the 5 at first, still a huge upgrade on the G920 and it'll be even easier on the playseat. Although, given I'm usually in VR, the thing wobbling a little is actually pro-immersion :D

    • @asimpleman2585

I don't want to turn the base around to be able to fit the 3 bolts because I want the wheel closer to me. Is it possible to use the 2 long holes on either side of the challenge plate and make a custom L bracket to bolt the CSL? For the measurements, the holes are 180mm wide and the CSL is 165mm.
