    Its actually pretty easy to jump in after someone else in this cockpit. There is a Huuuuuge amount of space between your legs and wheel. My friend has this rig and he is 5'8" and I am 6'4". I had no issues driving after him for a few hours without any modification whatsoever. This is by far the most Rigid Portable Sim Cockpit on the market. And portable is a massive thing in most sim racers list of desired features.
    Great review as usual and thanks for all the info, I am definitely

    Besides its limitations I really like the design. I was a big fan of the Playseat Challenge, since the seat construction was surprisingly stable, everlasting and comfortable (more comfy than my later SimLab Bucket seat).

    I think the part of the price is the actual movability of the cockpit. I think it adds to the price tag, and I value that a lot. I need to move it, I love your review - best cockpit reviews on the web. I will probably get this one, as it doesn't weight much, it's really sturdy and it's movable.
    EDIT:
    I got it and love it. I also got the shifter/e-brake mount (I emailed them, shop didn't have that at the time) and I mounted DD pro, CSL load cell kit and both the shifter and e-brake.

    Thank you so much for the review. I received mine this past weekend. I'm excited to finally be a true sim racer with GT 7 out today (on my birthday of all days :) I agree with your take about the adjustability. I am constantly loosening screws and retighting it when switching between my wife, brothers, friends, and myself. It is a nice looking and functioning cockpit overall. Love how light it is as well.

    • @crkvend
      @crkvend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Abel, do you find that when switching between users, it’s usually enough to just adjust the main extension (the distance between the front part and back part) or do you feel like you have to also adjust the pedals and the seat?
      I’m thinking maybe it would be possible to just get thumb screws for the main extension, that way you wouldn’t at least need tools.

    • @Abel_GTx
      @Abel_GTx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@crkvend the pedal tray has a lot of adjustments which makes it easier to adjust to a range of heights. I am 5’9 and my wife is 5’0. When we switch that’s all I have to adjust. It took us a bit to set it up. But once we found the right combinations, it’s become easier.
      It’s is a bit annoying though particularly if you are switching back and forth. But we usually play for 3-5 hours stints. So it’s not too bad.

    Got it 2nd hand a year ago and its a great cockpit, if you are a casual racer that does not swap around drivers and don't have a room just equipped for racing ;-)
    Fits perfect for me 1,85m (75kg) I can sit in it for hours.
    It is very sturdy and might have some tiny tiny flex in it but it does not bother you at all when driving.
    I've got it in my living room and can swap it easily to the corner after being done racing.
    As it is very light & compact as Karl mentions in the video.

    It's a good-looking unit. I went for an NLR GT Lite a few years ago, before this was around. If it had been, I would have bought it.
    One modification I would make, if I were in the market, would be to brace the wheel deck at the front with a horizontally-mounted bar, to which I'd fasten 2 uprights which would then go down the the frame (which is running front to rear).
    I think this mod might be fiddly, but it would enable the use of a mid-range DD drive.

    I just bought this and it is a very nice bit of kit but you are paying a good 50% or more over the odds for the low weight and form factor. I had the money to burn and there wasn’t anything quite comparable on the market so ultimately decided it was worth it but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to someone else.
    I’ve already come up with a pretty nice home brew shifter mount out of some left over plywood in the garage, there’s enough spare bolt hole mounting points that’s it’s pretty easy to work out, I’m sure there will be something on the market soon.

  • @crkvend
    @crkvend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Great review Karl, and thanks for addressing my question regarding if it can easily be stored in two pieces.
    What surprises me the most about this is that it seems impossible to adjust the seat height (or the wheel height) in any way. The wheel definitely looked to be to high up for you, and if there is no way to change the “ass to wheel” ratio (™️), that seems like a pretty big drawback.
    Edit: According to their website, seat height is adjustable, tho they provide no info whatsoever, nor a download of the manual.

    • @KarlGosling
      @KarlGosling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No worries mate, it was a good question to ask!
      lol "ass to wheel ratio" and I like that you trade marked it too!
      But no it's not adjustable, if you extend where that front and back halves join then that also raises or lowers the front of the seat as it's angled, but thats it.

    • @DARKNADAL
      @DARKNADAL 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can pretty much adjust seat height with the velcro straps which run under the seating area, not clear in the manual though

    • @crkvend
      @crkvend 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DARKNADAL but that would then also change the form of the seat as well. The velcro strap is pretty narrow and it would only raise that part of the seat, not the whole “butt area”.
      The Playseat Challenge also has the same issue.

    I compared this and the titan. Honestly, I would use this, due to the much easier storabilty AND it has less flex in the pedal base, which DID somewhat show up in the software with a fluctuation of 1-3% depending on the set strenght of the pedals.
    I also found it weirdly more comfortable than the titan.
    I would also argue that size adjustability isn't a problem. It has a lot more upwards leg space and my my 1.83m body was able to drive it at the same setting my 1.60m wife used.
    I sadly was never able to compare it to the ART

    One MAJOR issue I have tough... The lenght adjustment clamping is too weak. Under heavy breaking, the seat will lengthen itself, which is really annoying. Seems the only solution to this is, to drill a hole and stuck a bolt/screw throgh to fix it.

I just ordered one of these through Amazon and they are currently selling this black version for $599 and the Logitech one for $597. I priced out a Omega Titan with seat at $640.91. The rest of it is actually ok, but the seat is really bad and like he said you can't really adjust it that much. If you are going to do a lot of hours on this I reckon it would end up giving you back problems. And some people are saying it's ok with a lumbar pillow, but you shouldn't have to F around with a bodgy pillow for this much money. Other setups are the same or similar price but much better.

    This rig had to much potential and playseat should have spent more time fine tuning it. To start with, the weight is a big plus considering how light it is. Also, the fact that it’s comes flat packed and easy to move around.
    But I think they should have worked out how to adjust the seats easier and quicker making it possible for driver change. £400 would have been a sweet spot for this IMO

    I‘m considering buying this rig too. The only thing that keeps me from ordering is that I cannot guess how high and adjustable the wheel will sit on the plate and how it will fit my height. I‘m about 174cm. How is the adjustability and comfort if you would tilt the wheel a bit downwards? Is the seating and driving position still okay-ish? How angled would I have to put the screen then to make sense?
    I would attach a Fanatec CSW2.5 with the BMW GT2 wheel.

    Someone needs to come up with a racing seat that is adjustable for little kids and adults. This one is almost there with the adjustable pedal distance. But it looks like the steering wheel is fixed at a high position. Right now we're using the Playseat Challenge and putting a box underneath the pedals to raise it up higher when our kids are racing. People are not going to buy multiple racing rigs when people of different ages want to play, or when there is a party and everyone wants to try it out.

    "Why they put thumb screws on pedals tray but not the length adjustment?" Because frequently adjusting length with thumb screws will probably strip the silver nuts base sooner or later. Or even worse, like I did, deformed the tube. This is why playseat uses 50mm M6 screws with length adjustment bar instead of 55mm M6 which seem to be a better fit size wise. So the shorter screws will strip the nut first before damage the tube too much.

    I've got the Playseat Challenge. Although it's a great cockpit, one issue I have is that the wheel deck height is too high. It's at your upper chest to neck level, instead of a more comfortable mid chest level. It seems the Playseat Trophy is exactly the same. Not sure why they wouldn't make it lower to be more comfortable, from the looks of it there is plenty of clearance between your knees and the wheel base. Tired of driving with my arms so high and the wheel straight. I'd prefer a lower wheel titled up slightly.

      Have the exact same issue. I’ve had the Challenge for 3 weeks and looking at the Trophy now as it’s on sale here but the wheel height has me worried. It’s still a lot of money to get it home, build it and then be unhappy with the wheel height. The Challenge wheel height actually hurts my back quick a bit. Thinking maybe I’ll just stay with the Challenge and upgrade it to be a bit more rigid with an angled pedal tray that I can bolt my loadcells too. Only thing that I can’t help but think is by the time I pay for that I’m $200 off the Trophy, which will always be more rigid with more compatible with a wider variety of wheels/pedals.

      @@jameslsimsports8514 I’ve looked at the indigo lime stuff but also like the Lowdown Shifter pedal plate and pedal tray clips. Here in Australia the Lowdown stuff is a little more exxy than the Lime stuff but not by much. Just hard thinking about spending $200 on all these aftermarket parts for the Challenge and then not being that far off having just bought the Trophy. If you needed to fold it for storage, then that makes sense. I’ve only had the Challenge for 3 weeks and have given up folding it already and just slide it to the side, so the Trophy could work for me with the space I have. Have you found out how high the Trophy seat is? Id like to know height from seat to wheel deck. Upgraded Challenge Vs Trophy at about $200 difference 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@rover1374 I"m not sure about the height from the seat to the wheel deck, but I imagine it's the same as the Challenge, or very close. Karl Gosling commented it was a bit high for him. I hear you on the mods, I've bought all the Indigo Lime stuff, installed it all. Even installed bass shakers on it. I've probably dropped a cool $200 modding the thing. That being said, I'm more then likely going to buy the Trophy, it's not perfect but I like the design and comfort it offers.

    • @rover1374
      @rover1374 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jameslsimsports8514 Yeah I saw his comments. The Trophy’s plate height is 60cm and the Challenge is about 70cm. The seat must be a bit lower if height relative to the wheel is similar. How long have you had your challenge for and how do you find your mods? I’m leaning towards buying one too, it is such a cool sleek design.I like the Trak TR8 cockpit as well but that is again twice the cost of the trophy. I just set up the Playseat Trophy and it is a good seat. But It must have been my off day today. It took a while to put together in comparison to my Playseat evolution. I applied the Thrustmaster TR series wheel to it...word of advice... Make sure you have the wheel base on the way you require for space and only have the front two bolts on so as you can flip the plate up. This makes it easier to attach the wheel to the base. I had attached all 4 support screws and it was a challenge to attach the wheel with 2 bolts from below. So I started over and flipped forward the plate. As for adjustment to fit someone else, this is definitely NOT a seat for you and your 5 year old. Stick with the evolution or the better yet functional Revolution. I kind of wish I bought the revolution. My main issue with the evolution is the steering column is close proximity to the pedals and you have to wrap your foot around to press on the brake. Fo some games, I just set the brake to the far left. But the Revolution has feature its support bar coming from the base of the seat as opposed to blocking the pedals. That is ideal. I chose the Trophy mainly for the purpose of leg / foot freedom but I sacrificed the ability to change the seat easily to fit others. So the Trophy is good so far but I feel I should have ordered the Revolution.
