Me too. You want to talk instant sweat under the arms. This ass end bounced and came around like a fat bottom girl. Watch the Porsche on the same road, at the same spot, and it’s planted.
I recently went through the decision process between these 2 phenomenal vehicles and would agree the Rover is tons more comfortable on the road. That is if going in a straight line is your thing. I ended up choosing the Cayenne turbo first because a car in the shop isn't as comfortable as one on the road and in my opinion the Cayenne is much more reliable. After driving both, I could not get over the drive capabilities of the Cayenne, no comparison.
I just bought a Porsche Cayenne Turbo after selling my 997 911 Turbo. The Range Rover for me is for guys who wear turtle necks and Tweed jackets for stodgy trips to the weekend estate. Not to mention the reliability of the RR is the stuff of legends as they seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in the shop, forcing their owners to drive one of their other five cars. The Porsche just says let’s go find a nice back road or hit the Autobahn for quick run up to 175 mph. I’m curious if the Porsche that was tested had the optional air suspension? I’ve been told and seen on other videos that can be quite soft when it needs to be. I won’t take delivery of mine until later this week so I can’t say from experience.
It's like choosing between a Rolls Royce and an M5. Ofcourse the brits will prefer the softer more luxurious one but you can NOT deny both are good at the things they're aiming at despite being 4 door saloons. Get my point?
i have driven both cars and let me tell you this... porsche cayenne its so so much better than R R.... i couldnt wait to drive the porsche again and again its addictive
I suppose the Rangie is more comfortable, but I wonder about the reliability of the notoriously dodgy Range Rover. My understanding is the Cayenne is pretty bullet proof.
Comparing different variations of each car , we went for the cayenne. The Range Rover quality didn't compare to the quality of the cayenne. On the other hand both good cars.
a 6 minute 20 seconds long video,6 minutes dedicated to praising the RR,20 seconds to dump on the Cayenne.Yes Autocar way to go.Very credible and not biased at all.
I would just like to point out that the new Range Rover is significantly lighter than you suggest it is in this video, even though you list it correctly in the stats. The weights for the new Rangie are: 3.0 V6 Diesel - 2160 kg 4.4 V8 Diesel - 2360 kg 5.0 V8 Petrol - 2330 kg Making the Cayenne 190kg lighter not "half a tonne less" as Steve says in the video.
I can understand that you favor cars from your nation but your making an absolute bogus claim there. The Porsche is consisting of aluminum and magnesium and has many driver aids such as active suspension, air suspension, chassis dynamic control, torque vectoring all wheel drive, porsche stability control,an optional gas/electric hybrid, and Porsches far better interface, PCM.
This review couldn't be any more bias. "Wafting" and performance are complete opposite yardsticks to begin with. So, I am scratching my head how can you compare comfort with speed and handling ? While I agree the Range Rover is a lovely place to be if you want a relaxing drive, you cannot deny the Porsche Cayenne Turbo or Turbo S are the undisputed King Of SUVs when it comes to performance. Plus, the Range Rover is hugley expensive, I just can't get over the fact how a diesel Range Rover can be more expensive than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo which apart from the Turbo S is at the top of its range ? And the Cayenne is not small at all, the difference is when you drive the Range Rover you really feel like you are driving a truck whereas the Cayenne feels more like a performance car. I would take the Cayenne Turbo any day and twice on weekends !!
You want a Cayenne because its feels like a performance car, but not everyone wants a performance SUV or turbo's, regardless of price. Some buyers, might simply want comfort, and a luxurious look and feel. This reviewer preferred the Macan over the Evoque, even though the test was mostly on road, which favours the Macan. That off road test, was very weak . The Macan was more expensive, designed to be sporty, and had a 3L V6 engine compared to the Evoque's 2L 4cylinder. but the majority still thought he was fair. Bias works both ways.
carbiify Let's be honest here, most reviewers will tell you is unlikely the buyers of such high end SUVs will take them offroad. Even if they did the chances are it wouldn't be some hardcore offroad proving grounds. But, Sutcliffe's review of the Mccan and Evoque was far more objective in my opinion when he just compared performance between the 2 cars. The difference of the 2 reviews is here between the Cayenne and Range Rover right off the bat he didn't want to talk about the performance and essentially just went straight to comfort or to be more precise he wanted to use comfort as the defining yardstick. You said some people may prefer comfort, I agree and I don't have a problem with that, but by the same token some people may prefer performance too. So, my question is how could Sutcliffe say "if you have to choose between the 2 cars it has to be the Range Rover" ? On what basis ? That to me is bias. He could have said if you want comfort pick the Range Rover or if you want performance then pick the Cayenne. Fair ?
Alex Fu With the Evoque V Macan comparision. He still should have given both a proper off road test regardless of what the owner will do with them. They are both 4WD, so work them over in the rough, but I have to agree with you with this test. He should have summarized the capabilities of both SUV's, which would give the potential customer a better idea if they had to choose, based on what they need. A draw would have been fairer.
I sat in one of these at a recent local auto show. I got in it with the windows up, closed the doors and touched everything within reach. What a beautiful car.
if the range was built by VW Audi group or Mercedes, I would definitely agree with you ... but it's built by Tata Motors ... so the Porsche it's by far the winner
Mihai5332 Range Rover is made in Uk no matter what the owner of company is. The fact is Tata motors is very good as investments with over 3.9 billion in 2019 and help company be at the best as engineering ,production, inovation !
the funny think is in his review of the porsche cayenne he said it and here i quote "show me a range rover that drives like this and i will show you a lair" so which one is it ? make up ur mind plz !
+cameron-scott smith yeah man....it still only seats 5 and the boot/ trunk isnt all that spacious.Thing is cars like the Infiniti QX80 (similar exterior dimensions) are much more spacious and seat 7 and costs a little less, refinement admittedly when compared to say the QX80 is pretty close.
what plannet are you on? He was very complementry about the Porsche but the Range Rover is much more of a machine and clearly a better purchase on this planet ..
Daniels30 i cant remember ever seeing a range rover on the street broken down .. of course things go wrong on them there is a lot that can go wrong on all top of the range SUV's....maybe you should stop living in the past? U.S news auto rankings puts the Porsche cayenne in 6th position I will give you 1 guess what SUV is top
IF you haven't seen a RR by the side of the road you clearly don't venture far enough. Last week I saw 4 in a 3 hour drive. "stop living in the past" Land Rover as a brand consistently scores last place in any driver owner survey for reliability. Finally yes RR may be the highest selling but that doesn't understate the fact hat majority of owners will have visited the garage at least once for problems.
Really?? that argument is getting a bit lame and out of date. Do you really think Porsche Cayenne is going to be cheep to maintaine both have a lot tek.. One problem luxery brands have is they use a lot of sophisticated tek and have a lot more that can go wrong...
Angelissima Independent London Maybe if the RR actually had sophisticated tech it would break down less often. It irks me less, though. My neighbor two houses down has a RR and it's in and out the shop all the time. 0 - 62 the Porsche is 1.8 seconds faster plus the better handling makes it good every day car and Autobahn capable.
Siegfried Furtwängler Knappertsbusch i asked someone who owns the next gen range rover and he says that Tata has fixed all the issues and that he hasn't had to visit the repairs shop for any thing serious
Cayenne Turbo all the way.... Way more reliable than Range Rovers. I live out here in California we've got people driving Kai and turbos with over 300,000 miles on them. Easy to get power out of them too. A quick tune maybe a intake plenum and some performance air filters even with the stock box, and you're 600 plus horsepower At about 625 ft lb of torque. Stock turbos, stock exhaust, no internals, just incredible!
the reason it is mainly about the Range Rover is because IT IS A REVIEW OF A NEW CAR. the porsche is only there to show how much more advanced the Ranger Rover is
They're still a magazine first, so what little tidbits we get on TH-cam are just highlight reels filmed while they test for print as far as I can surmise. I agree that the pairing of the Cayenne Turbo and diesel Range Rover is inappropriate. One could make the counterargument of price similarity, but the Autobiography editions add a hefty premium to the Range Rover's price tag. Of course the Turbo is going to ride harsher. I would assume a V6 or diesel Cayenne is probably more comfortable.
Not only did he start driving the porsche at 3:30 (that's halfway through the video if you're still in middle school and havent figured out time yet) but he said everything you'd expect to hear from any review of both cars. the range is a luxury tank and the porsche is a sports car with enough room for the kids. what else were you expecting?
But Cayenne is as incredible performance achievement in SUV class - everyone knows that - as Range Rover is a luxury one. These cars are simply incomparable. That is why no decision could be made.
Don't agree; he describes how quick and sports-car like the Cayenne is compared to any car, let alone the RR, but there's no denying the RR is an incredible luxury achievement. And that's a view that other non-UK car-mags have echoed, so it's not bias.
i drove both of them Cayenne is Faster, More Agile,Sportier RR is a comfort ride ,Real SUV Feel these 2 are the best SUVs in the Market, no matter what you chose you will have fun
The Cayenne Turbo is simply a raised 911 Turbo that has more room in the back seat and a proper boot where it can be taken into deep snow or thrashed on a long journey across the country with rapid pace. I think the Range Rover is the better SUV overall because it will out do the Cayenne in fuel costs over the year, go anywhere you want it to and because it has one of the best interiors in a car that money can buy. Cayenne Turbo is for a differenct customer segment. Should have compared G class.
actually unlike most big modern SUVs, the Cayenne is pretty much on par with the RR when it comes to off road driving. It has gone tons of electronics to keep it going through the toughest terrains. RR may be slightly better at coping with the rough stuff but the Cayenne is better than you'ld expect it to be.
Just two things, first of all solve the audio problem, macbook pro full volume and stil can not hear a word you say (only with this channel). Second, what about the incredible offroad side of the Range Rover?
My friend has a 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 and has never had a problem with it. I know Range Rovers of old were notoriously dodgy but I don't believe that is the case anymore.
I had a last of the L322 TDV8 4.4. Such a disappointment, its got zero driver engagement and the engine disappointing. I waaaay preferred my old Cayenne Turbo S. So the next for me will be a 2011+ Cayenne S Diesel.
Erm, why are you comparing a diesel with a petrol? Why not compare the RR with the Cayene Diesel S? And yes, like everyone else said, of course a brit would be biased towards the RR
Too bad we don't get the diesel here but I'm glad I convince my mother to buy the Range Rover (or be it the Sport) It means I get to drive it sometimes and feel smug..lol
Allot of Cayenne fanboys commenting. Look, in the real world you want your SUV to be practical, comfortable, nice to drive and good off road. If your into performance then the Cayenne is the one for you however if your like me and don't really care about the numbers then the Range Rover is the one to buy.
is hard to argue that which car is the best because everybody have their taste in terms of design, power, comfort and etc. but for me, i will choose the range rover.
My statement still stands, you didn't even target it. Yes, we are discussing road machines, namely luxury SUV, not day-cars. These should be a COMPROMISE between off road capabilities and on road handling. Focusing on only HP, NM and handling would make it useless. The AWD system alone in the Cayenne and RR is superior to an F150. The American on the other hand has bigger tires, which is better off-road but at the cost of handling -> the lack of compromise -> you cannot compare it to these.
yes, but up to the 3rd generation models... now they are quite reliable. my dad has a 3rd generation and it has only broke down once in 5 years and that was because my mum accidentally put petrol on the diesel engine
He is driving the hell out of this Range Rover. I love both vehicles. However, there is something special about the Range. Iv'e driven two and the Porsche Cayenne.
Yeah that special your referring to is that the Rover will be in the service department more times then any car out there. And the only seat that your actually sitting on is the couch in the service waiting for that bill. Absolute comfort lol
There is something about the Cayenne's styling that never made it for me,although it must have one of the best sorted chassis. The RR on the other hand is majestic.Like the Queen it maneges to be powerful and look good every time anywhere.
dear presenter u forgot to mention : The Ford 4.4 TD is a diesel engine developed and built by Ford Motor Company. It is based on the Lion V6 Diesel and has a power output of 330 hp (246 kW) and 516 lb·ft (700 N·m) of torque. As with the other AJDs, it has a Compacted Graphite Iron block that reduces weight while increasing engine block strength. The 4.4L is built at Chihuahua Engine Plant in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico along with the 6.7L Ford Power Stroke Diesel engine available in Ford Super Duty trucks. While in development, the 4.4 TD was rumored to be for use in the Ford F-150, Ford Expedition, and as an entry level diesel option for the Super Duty. No such option ever became available with Ford citing the reason as being a low demand for a vehicle with a $6000-$8000 premium over its gasoline models. Current application of the 4.4L TD engine is the Land Rover Range Rover. short version : crapy shit . clever marketing makes stupid humanoids to buy a nicely packed and overpriced guano .
Ok, Steve said the car weighs 2.6 tonnes but a min later the fact sheet says it wieghs 2,360 Kg, (2.3). Which is it? And why compare a Cayenne turbo to a diesel Range Rover?
Merc GL is a grand car, I agree, closer in size and confort to the Range Rover, but then, the Rover looks more the part, I think. The big Merc looks like a Big Merc, it does not distinguishes itself enough in my opinion.
people that buy these 2 cars belong in 2 different camps and will never be swayed to the other. so this comparison is purely for entertainment purposes only.
These 2 cars are apples and oranges. Luxury boat vs. sports car. British luxury vs. German dynamics. Suit vs. sports jacket. What we know about Land Rovers, however, is that 5 years down the road things start falling apart and the beautiful interior looks all worn out (just check on any 5 year old Land Rover product). On the other hand, the Porsche will look and drive as though it were new.
With that diesel engine it's the number 1 SUV in the world. The main reason for me, is that it's going to serve your family well for 40 years. Diesels last and last. For that same reason, Rolls Royce is even concidering a diesel Rolls. Now that we have the technology to make them quiet and smoke free.
Those who keep on praising the cayenne for its supposed reliability obviously has never owned one. my previous 06 cayenne turbo had recurrent electrical and servo problems. Not saying its less reliable than the range but the cayenne is far from spotless.
A couple of things I'd like to appeal out to AUTOCAR. 1. Please sort out the audio.. i know with the production set and done and everything recorded, not much you can do to fix whats been recorded badly.. but for the future please sort it out. 2. Why go with a Cayenne Turbo when you know it will suffer on all accounts and excel on power over the range rover because its focus is so diff. Wouldn't a top spec'd nonturbo cayenne have been a better rival in terms of road compliance than the turbo?
Haven't been in the new range rover but I did a 800 km road trip in a cayenne and I can imagine what he is saying with the differences. I would go the sportier route and choose the porsche perhaps but I can imagine for pure comfort then Range Rover would be amazing!

I'm afraid you are mistaken. Just go to the Land Rover website for the USA and you will see that only a 5.0 liter gasoline V8 is available.
actually unlike most big modern SUVs, the Cayenne is pretty much on par with the RR when it comes to off road driving. It has gone tons of electronics to keep it going through the toughest terrains. RR may be slightly better at coping with the rough stuff but the Cayenne is better than you'ld expect it to be.
just look under crossover in wikipedia and you will see it being listed there along with other tall cars
Horsepwer, torque, comfort and ride quality are all that matter.
This "review" only needs the "god save the queen" and a Winston Churchill quote against germans to be a perfect pamphlet
Must agree to Shtrudell that this seamed a bit biased - for SUV´s i love both of these cars and usually also these reviews.
Allot of Cayenne fanboys commenting. Look, in the real world you want your SUV to be practical, comfortable, nice to drive and good off road. If your into performance then the Cayenne is the one for you however if your like me and don't really care about the numbers then the Range Rover is the one to buy.
Great review!
is hard to argue that which car is the best because everybody have their taste in terms of design, power, comfort and etc. but for me, i will choose the range rover.
The year is 2013, not 1913. Practically every mass produced car you could buy is reliable.
yes, but up to the 3rd generation models... now they are quite reliable. my dad has a 3rd generation and it has only broke down once in 5 years and that was because my mum accidentally put petrol on the diesel engine
I think they only compare marks that have released totally new models the segment so may thr new MB wasn't changed from the previous year.
I wish they sold this engine here in the USA.
Wow!! The British guy chose the British car! Why am I not surprised again?
Well, I didn't realize that the Cayenne diesel was available here. Good to know.
Ok, Steve said the car weighs 2.6 tonnes but a min later the fact sheet says it wieghs 2,360 Kg, (2.3). Which is it? And why compare a Cayenne turbo to a diesel Range Rover?
Reviewer seems to care about one thing: RIDE QUALITY
Merc GL is a grand car, I agree, closer in size and confort to the Range Rover, but then, the Rover looks more the part, I think. The big Merc looks like a Big Merc, it does not distinguishes itself enough in my opinion.
Owned yes, but that's it. Built and engineered in the UK. Don't let facts get in the way of bias.
"You just wanna bubble about in it" he says as he speeds past at 60 MPH.
people that buy these 2 cars belong in 2 different camps and will never be swayed to the other. so this comparison is purely for entertainment purposes only.
Anyone hear what was been said?
Someone needs to introduce you kids to audio filters. The road rumble makes your voice barely audible 🤦♂️
