- Big 4x4, Sports Car Performance, 5 seconds to 60, 31 mpg, not too bad Off-Road and an AWESOME sounding Diesel. You surely can't say all those things about the same car ?!
Well in this video I find out you can if it is a Porsche Cayenne S V8 Diesel !

I was waiting for this video as a current Range Rover Sport owner for the past 8 years and looking to change it soon. As you say, amazing performance from such a large car and I love the look of that cabin. Tyres are everything in these cars, all I need is to get out of the Goodwood car parks when it rains !. Great video again. 👍
IMHO the finest vehicle of its generation. The fact that they'll never be another S Diesel means this particular cayenne is special, and a bit of a bargain on the used market.

My 2015 V8S is the best all rounder I’ve ever owned (one of several Porsches over the last 15 years). As you say, if you can find one they’re a bargain. We’ve put 150,000 miles on ours, and it’s as taught as the day it came out of the showroom.
I was at Porsche’s track on Monday, and the guys there were urging me ‘don’t ever sell it!’ … and I won’t. What could you possible get to replace it for £20k? The 992 for fun, and this for every day is the perfect combo!
They're the wrong tyres for off roading
I agree, but if you go to the Land Rover Offroad Driving Experience, all of the cars they use there have standard road tyres and they are amazingly capable. Where we went was so wet road tyres just couldn't cope.
Land Rover "standard" road tyres are actually already M+S. That's available has a free option on the Cayenne.
Plus Land Rover usually does that on dirt / sand not mud.
But, snow chains do work on mud if you don't have off-road tyres ;)
(Well, Dave might not like it).

A really nice 4x4 but thats what you would expect from Porsche, amazing performance and handling yet again in a big heavy 4x4. There was a time when you would not give a second glance to a large off-road vehicle as they were slow, didn't handle well and most of them were really ugly but now in 2017 there are lovely 4x4's from Porsche, Jaguar, Audi and Range Rover, all of them pretty special. Great video Peter i really enjoyed it, i hope you cleaned your friends Cayenne well because boy did it need it after all those off-road sequences.
He wanted to keep it dirty for a few days !

Had a quick ride in one of these last year at Porsche Silverstone, wow what an impressive car. I've got an itch for one of these.
I wish it was really my garden. I just have to make do with being able to use it for dog walks, mountain biking and now off roading !

I took my Cayenne Diesel S over the HARDKNOTT PASS (look it up) last weekend - 30% gradient switchback roads - I swear the car didnt move forwards, the mountain moved backwards :-)

Another great video Peter. Keep em coming. Very easy to watch. Good presentation. Not sure how much longer these big diesel engines will sell. More and more car manufacturers seem to be ditching diesels for smaller petrol engines with a turbo or, as with the other engine they offer in this car, the petrol hybrid.
I know what you mean. There is so much negative press about diesel at the moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big diesel fan but when they are this good it's hard not to be impressed !

Great review. Impressive diesel performance on road in particular. Wonder how it would do with even more challenging off road (rocks, stream beds, etc.) but with something other than regular road going tires. Keep up the great work - production values excellent.
Cheers Kevin. I have been in a Cayenne on the off road course at the Porsche Experience Centre and they are very capable. It really surprised me. These are way more than a Chelsea Tractor. Thanks for the comment about production values :-)
It's a full on off roader with proper tyres up there with Landrovers, Landcruisers etc. Centre and rear diffs and I believe low range. Also decent departure angle, maybe not so much approach.

You won’t believe I manage to get 45 mpg once on the motorway.
Had it got PTV? Could have done with that info on the spec as it gives a third diff lock. I took mine off road with proper winters on was very capable. Porsche wheel storage and swap service is great for keeping 2 sets.
Hi, I have just had a road test over the weekend of a car identical to the one in the video & I agree what an amazing machine, only on the road but mega fast with the plus point of sounding like a proper V8 😉.
I know what you mean Steven. The owner of this car even won a bet with someone who was convinced it was a petrol !!!!
I can see how he won the bet, only the slightest rattle when cold then a proper V8 growl, I drive a BMW X5M & to me the Porsche sounds way better than the rather flat sound the BMW produces, one mate thought it was a V6, all round a better vehicle & in the real world almost as quick ! I only didn’t P/X as the Mrs didn’t get comfy in the seats (drives a Disco 4 with its armchairs for seats). Congratulations on doing more Videos & getting more involved, every credit (very envious lol). I have loved cars since a kid & owned all manner of good & maybe not so good performance cars I look forward to seeing it all going strength to strength for you as I always enjoy your unbiased straight forward unscripted reviews, good luck for the future... 😉

Hi Pedro, I have noticed you also enjoyed the new Audi SQ7(Diesel) and again you love the Porsche(Diesel) you will always find Diesel cars pull hard Torque pending but I think your next car may be a SUV DIESEL from Porsche or Audi. I could be wrong but I think your a bit of a Diesel fan boy. I enjoyed your Vlog and I also love Porsche well done fella :) P.S. I love you off road skills LOL

Just heard yesterday (20th February 2018) - Porsche are ceasing to produce diesel models across their range as from now (no diesel Macans, Cayennes, nor Panameras). Sad day for me - I had one on order, after saving for the last four years.
This is the first time I've seen your videos (This been 4th) Peter and I'm so very impressed with the finished products. Very entertaining, very well filmed and down to earth reality. Keep up the great work. But I have to ask which SUV are most impressed with so far?
Hi Robert. Great to hear you are liking my videos. I love my SUVs and this Cayenne is stunning so would be in my top 3. I love the Range Rover Autobiography but if I were to have to choose and it was my own money I would have a Range Rover Sport SVR...I just loved driving that car. Stunning looks and the noise it made was off the charts :-)
I'm with you on that %100...lol I hear and read many press say the Cayenne is better than the RR Sport, but I feel those brands like BMW too, aim theirs more for the road use. In the end though to me; Nothing beats a Range Rover for looks!

A great review, but the headline is a little misleading. There’s no SUV like it.
Sounds great. looks like the ride was a bit bouncy from the start it was rocking you from side to side .
Off road or on Ian ? The ride on road was superb. Not too firm but not much role in the corners.

Getting out of "stuck" is 90% skill/10% car. I've got stuck multiple times with my E60 2.5D in 10x more mud than here. recently in one music festival when I was leaving it. Tires weren't even good. Got out after 1 min while other cars where stuck there for hours.

Not that I'm aware of. It just sounds awesome. You can hear it coming a mile off !
Thats what you get with the optional21inch Road only tyres. Get the standard 20inch with a more All Terrain tyres and that mud would have been nothing.

Great video, am looking into a prestige 4x4, what's the best this the alfa, Maserati, touraeg, Volvo been in all bar Alfa and Volvo and Porsche is amazing which do you recommend as a driver

What are those wheels and tyres? 285/40 ZR 21 front, 315/35 ZR 21 back? You´ll have problem in any car offroad.
amusing and interesting video. I don't know how much off road experience you've had but honestly you should have known better than to try and tackle the extremely wet fields with standard road tyres on. Regardless of the vehicle, tyres are always the limiting factor!(I suspect you knew that anyway) Great vehicle, thanks to your mate for letting you share it with us here. Cheers
I've done a fair bit off road and did indeed know that I might get into trouble, but thought I'd give it a go anyway !!

They both drive in a similar way. The SQ7 feels newer inside but I think the Porsche feels better in the corners.
Nice review, how is the driving (acceleration, handling ...) of the Cayenne Diesel S in comparison to the Audi SQ7? (Just your feeling beside the numbers)
They are VERY similar cars and share the same power train. I think for me the Porsche just pips the Audi on driving experience and feeling special but they are both very good cars.
My Dream car is the Porsche Macan 3.0TD.

It was a wet day and part of that would have been road spray … same happens with mine … some smoke on giving it the beans but lots of spray when picking its skirts up.. it really is awesome car ..
How to go off road with the summer tyres ?;)))))
Can you recall f the 21” wheels on this vehicle were comfortable. I’m in the market for a 958 V6d and 19” and 20” wheels seem to be the norm but I’d prefer to fit the 21” wheel/ tyre for looks & handling but not at the complete loss of comfort. Thanks.

It would struggle too, and then break down.
Going off road with high performance road slicks and of course you gonna get stuck on wet slippery grass . It would have been a good review if you switched out rims tyres and put off road M/T or A/T on it then you see the difference . Because Cayenne is very capable . Silly trying to do off road with the factory tyres and its not safe .

Tbh if I wanted an SUV I'd buy a RangeRover. If I wanted a sports car I'd get a 911/F-Type/TT... I've never seen the point of combining both. It's just all round compromise imo. Maybe I'm just a bit strange haha!!
