My children experienced stocking. Growing up in a dairy farm family, we used opening stockings as the way to help them wait for their Dad to be able to finish milking chores. They got the excitement prolonged that way. Fast forward to today, and my children do the same for their kids, even though not all of the families are farming. It's kind of a nice practice because they were/are allowed to open their stocking without parents, and we still had/have the joy of watching their faces when unwrapping bigger gifts.
I’m so glad you talked about your Flax sweaters in the last podcast! It inspired me to cast one on and it really got me out of a knitting slump, I was just craving a super basic mindless raglan and it’s been PERFECT, so thank you for the inspiration!
You Auraliano is freaking gorgeous! I love your palette. I’m going to go watch your last video so I can understand what you were saying about the yardage requirements.😘😘
Ooh, I look forward to your Fall knitting list video! And, yes, I say definitely try to get stockings knit for your kids, especially since they seem so knit-worthy 😊
Stockings: They are definitely a core Christmas memory for me. My grandma made stockings for all 12 of her kids, each of their spouses, and all 30+ grandkids. She sewed them using red felt for the outside and green cotton for the lining. They have our names at the top and then beaded Christmas designs on rest. Everyone's stocking is unique and I always loved comparing my stocking to others to see if we had any designs that were the same. My mom has done her own variation of them for my hubby and kids, and for my brother's family, too. She embroidered theirs instead of doing beading. I have a cousin who is also continuing the tradition and I am sure several other family members are as well. I don't think you will regret making stockings for your family. They will love them!

Would it be possible to do a paired down advent and the balance in the stockings? I really encourage you to do the stockings if nothing more than having them for posterity. My husband’s mom hangs them every year and they are part of the ritual of the gathering. Then they get passed along in the family.😘😘
I was raised Jehovah's Witness -- no Christmas / Birthdays etc ...as an adult ( NOT a JW ) I feel kinda lost at traditions .... WHATEVER you do with your family will be a lifetime memory !! That book looks amazing !! Does knitting with 2 strands mohair change your tension ? I haven't done it , and I imagine I would unintentionally hold them too tight ! Enjoy Oregon Flock/Fiber Festival if your going this weekend !
Thank you for the book review! I ordered it based on another one of your videos mentioning it and am SO excited for it to arrive and do some project planning. 😃 Ugh, stockings will be so fun. We grew up having Santa sacks. (Pillow cases with Santa on them). We always sat down and read The Night Before Christmas aloud together on the couch, the. Put out a beer for Santa (classic Australia) and some carrots for the reindeer. Then santa would leave us our only box of coco pops for the year and one other present each. 🥰 Now as an adult I love being able to choose and start "traditions" that suit my family perfectly. Keep what works, leave the rest. Christmas trees? Nope.
Finish the kids sweaters and jump straight into the stockings. I would do any combo of black, white and red. I started a cardigan and put it away for the summer. Going to pull it out and get back to it. Hopefully soon. I tried to start a pair of socks the other day and got about 8 toe rows and was like...how am I this tired!!?!!! Anyways, stockings are fun but more as a decoration than a gift space. We put fruit and candy and thats it. They get filled and emptied Christmas morning but they are part of the decorations all month.
As a child I always loved my Christmas stocking. They were always simple things inside. A can of pop, a chocolate bar, a mandarin orange snd one yeat a small rocket radio. This would hsve been in 50's and 60's. I rug hooked stockings for my 2 boys and they are in their 50's and we are still using them. Go for it!
I have a lot of strong opinions on stockings, I knit one for my sister’s baby and hated it so much because it was knit in a worsted weight it put me off knitting for a full year…and then she had another baby. I’ve been avoiding knitting that for two years now. It might be fun to get your kids to pick what motifs they want on their stocking? There’s also no pressure to have them be ‘heirloom’ knits just have some fun with them.

How I knit PetiteKnit patterns: wait until other people knit it and then read their pattern pages for correct yardage 🤣
I wonder if testers are gifted yarn or what happens?
