Please don't ever feel bad for DNFing a book, no matter how popular it is! In my experience, DNFing is the key to actually enjoying majority of books I'm reading and not being stuck in reading slumps. I need to resist the somewhat toxic wish to finish all the books I'm starting - no matter how much I might not like them. Life is too short for that!
I’m currently reading Anne of Greenville by Mariko Tamaki and think you might love it! It’s an Anne of Green Gables retelling but this Anne is a self described ‘queer Japanese American singer, actor and choreographer of disco operas’. Haven’t heard anything about it, but its cover looked like pure joy, really lovely and cute so far!
I also had issues with the Honey Witch. I didn't mind the story, but the way it was narrated felt like reading stage directions for a play rather than a novel. 3 stars for me. My best August read was Ali Hazelwood's The Love Hypothesis, which was the first romance book I've ever given 5 stars (which I never thought I would do!).
Honestly, the same with Kiki. I much prefer the anime. The Tainted Cup, wow. You've intrigued me 😯✨. Sounds amazing! It's already in my tbr, so I'll make sure to read it sooner and let you know what I think. What a bummer with The Honey witch. I really want to read it and honestly it really sounds like your kind of book, but in reality, yeah, sometimes even the great sounding can disappoint. I'll still read it to check how I feel though. My reading has been a row of mediocre books recently. And also I was in couple of slumps. I guess my last 5-star read was in summer. Hope to find the next favourite till the end of the year (I doubt it though), but for some weird reason I keep picking the books I know I'll probably won't enjoy instead of finally reading the ones I know I'll like... That's honestly so weird, I can't explain it. Probably it's a fear of disappointment, because I often feel differently about the popular books. I dunno... Will think about it.😅 Happy reading to you💕.
I read an ARC of The Honey witch in April or something and I REALLY wanted to love it and I did finish it but I can confidently say that you didnt miss anything when you DNFed. The romance was trash and the whole magic system gets WAY worse later and yeah I was really disappinted by that one. Looking forward to can't spell treason without tea. Read The day death stopped from the author and really enjoyed it.
The audio book for the tainted cup is SO GOOD for anyone who’s having a hard time physically reading it. I’m obsessed with it!
