    I loved The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy and can’t wait for the next book! Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands is one of my top sequels and Wendell is one of my crushes so we’re on the same page there, haha. Definitely adding your other top two books to my TBR. My top three of this year so far are Tress of the Emerald Sea, The Way of Kings, and Six of Crows! With Piranesi and Seven Days in June getting an honorable mention, haha

      oooh that sounds like a great reading year so far! Brandon Sanderson hasn't worked for me in the past, but the more I hear about Tress the more I think I really need to give him another go, the whole sea of spores concept sounds so cool!

    The She Wore Black Podcast just interviewed Megan Bannen! She also interviewed Sydney Shields about The Honey Witch. Both such good books!

    Love this tag (first time seeing it)! And I love that you're enjoying making these videos and the community! I'm always super excited for every upload from you. You always have great recommendations and reflections, and the videos are pretty calming to watch too ☺
    The Emily Wilde series sounds pretty cool, I'll put the first one on my to read list!
    Also curious, where did you get those stats at the beginning from? 😁
    I've personally only read 9 books this year so far. Which doesn't sound like a lot, but it's by far my most productive year ever. And it started by my thorough enjoyment of Just Stab Me Now by Jill Bearup, a meta-fanatasy-romance-comedy making fun on fantasy-romance tropes, with a grounded 30-something heroine who has kids. It's such a breath of fresh air, and is based off her TH-cam shorts. :D Can highly recommend this one!
    Which would have my winner for a lot of these best categories, were it not for....Imogen Obviously thanks to you 🥰 (See my comment on your pride recs video 😄). Best book, character, surprise and somehow also manages to take the cake for both the book that made me cry and made me happy, hahaha.
    Best new (yes, new I'm behind) author is Brandon Sanderson, because I love his character writing and worldbuilding and only read 1 book of all the other authors hahaa. Tress of the Emerald Sea by him takes my medal for most beautifully designed book.
    Biggest disappointment was I guess Remember, Remember by Ella Machray, but I think that's really only because it sounded super interesting (It's about the gunpowder plot from the perspective of a slave and ex-slave who turn to rebellion). But I stopped reading because I noticed that I just wanted to read fantasy instead of historical fiction. I didn't feel like the book did anything wrong.
    The one I still really need to read is Paladin's Grace (on your description/recommendation 😊). But I've ordered that one via my local bookstore, so it should arrive soon!

      I'm so glad my recommendations have been useful for you! 😁 all the stats I added come from storygraph - I finally made the switch over from goodreads and I really love the insight it gives you into your reading habits!
      Some of your reads sound really interesting! I definitely need to give Brandon Sanderson another try - I tried Mistborn a while back and it just wasn't for me I think, but Tress sounds a lot more my vibe and I've heard such good things!

      @@GraceEllerby Oooh, I'll have a look at storygraph then. I'm on Goodreads now, which is also a fun. But I love some good stats on these kind of things :D
      Yaay! 😁 Yeah, I'm actually currently reading the first Mistborn and I totally get what you mean! Because even though I enjoy it, it's clearly a tougher read than Tress. And judging from all you other recommendations/reviews, I think you would indeed enjoy Tress a lot more! I would personally put it in 2nd/3rd place of favorite books this year 😊
      Emily Wilde is up next for me! 😁

    Two of my favorites so far this year have been: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, and To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose (would love to see more people read this one to encourage the author to write the sequel sooner!)

      ooh I adored Starless Sea so I'll definitely have to check that other one out! ☺️

    If you love character driven books I highly recommend In Other Lands! It's one of my all time favourites. It's both very funny and emotional. I love the main character with my entire heart

    • @GraceEllerby
      @GraceEllerby  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ooh is that the one by Sarah Rees Brennan? it looks kinda weird haha which is perfect for me 😁 thanks for the recommendation!

    • @nikolahetn944
      @nikolahetn944 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GraceEllerby Yes, its by her! It's definitely a very specific kind of book. I would say its one of those stories were you feel that the author created what they wanted and didn't care about unnecesery things (that would not contribute to the story she wants to tell) which tbh is something I admire and would like to see more :D I probably didn't explain it very well xd but it's just 'I do what I want, typical story structure or rules can't stop me' kind of feeling. While it's great to see extremely thought out stories where everything makes sense I believe we don't get enough of these kind of 'unhinged' kinds of stories that allow themselfes to be something wild and are not holding themselves down to try to fit into people's expectations :D

    So many books on here that i want to read!
    Unfortunately my year hasn't been amazing. While i have enjoyed a lot of books, I haven't truly loved any. I wanted to make a video with favorite and least favorite books so far, but for none of those categories i really had any that i felt strongly enough about to justify making a litst
