You're up on a mountain ridge.. and he's on a beach.. Your Bushnell Fresnel zone is huge. Let's see how they operate in a city where the application is really needed with obstructions. You get 5000 ft and I'll be impressed.
Exactly Obstructions in city play a major role can bring range down by a lot.

great experiment, what is the software you use for the calculating hight and GPS.
That Whale out there is why you lost 2 packets, they have been known to cause extreme multi-path signal propagation errors sub 1Ghz. Very impressive results and setup on the CC1120, one of my favorite wireless ICs.

It looks like you are transmitting up along the coast from high points. Can the CC1120 transmit around mountains at the same range? Valley to valley?
No it can't. Pure physics..
This can only communicate with line of sight at these frequencies (800 MHz)

And if I change 1120 with 1101 can I get at least 50 km with the same conditions? Currently I reach 4.5 km with two CC1101 without CC1190
Юрий Ильин cc1101 does not support narrowband, only down to approx 60 kHz receive bandwidth. Range will therefore be shorter.
What was deviation? And which RX filter do you use? Also so what was freq offset (FREQEST register)?

This is impressive. I used the cc1101/cc430 without PA on max power (10dbm) 433mhz and i was able to achieve only up to 400m. But at 100km, this is very impressive. I would like to know the transmit power and receive sensitivity.

Datarate was 1.2 kbps. At 1 meter height the range will be lower, the high altitude used here is to get over the earth curvature :-)

Video transmission needs a very high bandwidth, this RF comm system simply won't be able to work with.

CC1120s are pretty cheap - under £5 per chip, plus a few passives, etc. if you can solder them yourself. The dev modules are a little more expensive.

That's easy to do. I covered 250 miles using a 10 GHz ham radio and knife edging off a mountain top.

The key difference is that CC1120 is narrowband, which is very bandwidth efficient. LoRa uses spread spectrum technology, which is very bandwidth inefficient. This means, you will limit the number of devices that can communicate in a given area. Given that spectrum is a shared, limited resource, it is a very bad idea to use inefficient methods of communication. Spectrum efficiency is a key parameter to secure capacity and, in turn, robustness, when you have many devices that need to communicate

moro22ro In this particular test, we were using 600 bits per second with settings intended for 12.5 kHz channel spacing. This is classic narrowband, and easy to set up and understand :-)

@@terjelassen6978 actually you can try earth-moon-earth aka moon bounce, which is mounting both transceivers at a large satellite dishes, pointing at the moon, and adjusting the frequency to compensate for the Doppler shift 📡🌙

The baudrate/bitrate here is 1.2 kbps. The datarate is the key parameter for practical range, i.e. the higher the datarate, the shorter the communication range. This is a fundamental tradeoff. When it comes to robustness, in radio communication technology, the quality of the radio is important for robustness. The capability to filter out the signals you want to receive amongst noise and interference is what differentiates a high quality radio from a simpler radio. So for long range communication, using high quality radio parts is highly advised
