- The Putrescent Knight is a tough legend-type boss in Elden Ring's new DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. In this video I show you how I beat it easily and consistently (with no summons) using the Bolt of Grasax, ranged lightning attacks, and a greatshield to trivialise the fire attacks.

Damn this DLC is about to make me go back to the old dark souls days of turning into a tank with a huge shield.
Yeah I generally like using shields, depends on the boss ofcourse but they are often very underrated I think, many players seem to just dodge everything. Combination of both is good I think haha
@@WilstormGamingyou can blame the bloodborne crowd for that. They think its "less fun" to defend with a shield, and as a result, ignorant players never bother with shields, to their detriment.
I’ve never played Bloodborne but I’ve always played with 2h in all Dark Souls games. I know shields are OP but the playstyle is more fun when I’m dodging and weaving in attacks instead of wasting stamina blocking with a shield.
@@The0nlyy idk, i always liked using a shield.
"Again there's usually time for one attack after this."
Yeah this and 90% of the dlc's boss attacks.
Yeah even with light weapons there's not a lot of time for attacks haha
This is my biggest problem with the DLC most bosses are only difficult because there is little to no punishment window
THANK YOU SO MUCH! With the shield and spamming lightning attack while the mimic distracted it was sooooooo much easier. Also a bit of rolling too, of course. My thy find eternal grace wherever you sall go, brother.
Hey thank you man. The advice for the Shield saved my skin.
Bro another video that is clutch you have earned my respect and a sub
Thanks, appreciate it! Glad it helped you!
Want to comment just to say that this helped me so, so much. I really appreciate the video as I died here easily 20x as many times as I did against Relana. Please keep it up, this was a perfect video.
It especially helped when you would pause the video to explain exactly what was going to happen next and how to respond, even though you would occasionally make mistakes (we're all human) you would explain that wasn't what you should do, and what to do instead.
Thanks so much.
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. I'm glad the video helped!
FOR ANYONE READING THE COMMENTS I JUST FOUNDONE OF THE BEST CHEESES FOR PUTRESCENT KNIGHT! I equipped the black knife with shard of alexander with a few buffs(any work). Then all you have to do is spam the blade of death ash of war on it. And it takes huge chunks of health out of him. Give it a try let me know if it works for you🤙🤙
Also great vid by the way👍
Yo thank you man got it first try!
Bruh, total freakin game changer. I ran right through him!! I owe you one 🫡
Very very good strat, I equipped the shield and did it first try XD Thankyou a bunch!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for this, you make excellent content.
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback, hope the guide helps.
@@WilstormGaming it absolutely did, very concise and easy to follow. Thanks again.
Super video. 👍🏻
Bro, you a G for this! 30+ attempts using Rellana's twin blades and no shield to first try in about 30 seconds with your recommended setup
Nice! Glad you got it down 👌
I found the weapon art on the Miquellan Knight Sword very helpful because the boss is weak to holy and it's a ranged attack. So this, holy-shrouding cracked tear, shard of alexander and maybe even the sacred scorpion talisman if you feel being bold can drop this boss really fast.
Blocking that flame attack instead of jumping it was the tech. You’ll take some frostbite damage but cleared this boss first try using your method.
Thanks!!
Very helpful!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the magic shield advice. I've been trying to stick to a martial arts build that relies on the great turtle shield passive stamina regen, but I can't survive those damn blue flames he launches with that.
Yeah those flames were weird, at first I was dodging them then jumping seemed to work but I'd still get hit 30% of the time I couldn't get it consistent, the magic great shield was just easy haha
This is the only boss I personally think needs a nerf when it comes ro his like 6 combo. You run out of stamina by the time you dodge his 3rd or 4th attack and he just kills you with his damn horse.
Still have 0 clue how to figure it out.
Edit: idk why in this video it showed his circular combo in your vid the way it did but he does a series of like 6 slashes, run attack and then horse and there is usually no stamina left for me by that time.
Great👍🏿👍🏿
Hey silurias tree does some good holy damage thats how i beat it and it has a crazy good range attack just find some way to keep agro off you and youll be good
Did you level the shield?
Don't have enough Stength for Greatshields (32), so I want to try the Silver Mirrorshield
Normally leveling the shield is important for Boost but if you're only using it for fire evena medium shield with high magic resist should work, but I didn't test it.
@@WilstormGaming yes , it worked 🤟 Level +9
I just did him with the backhand blades, every try at least 5 minutes, some even 10. My final try is 7 minutes. Once you know the attacks it's easy to dodge, but if you're unconcentrated one time you can be dead very fast.
Nice guide, the double team wrecks me..
2nd run, double gransax wrecks it lol
Glad it helped!
Bro this build is insane man😂
Glad you like it, Bolt of Gransax skill does huge damage and looks awesome too!
Thank you beat him easily with shield ng+7
Glad it helped!
I absolutely decimated this boss by accident.
I think i was blessing level 10 cus i was exploring like crazy and ended up here. I rushed up to him and jump attacked him quickly followed by a lions claw and broke his stance. I had enough stamina for another lions claw + jump attack so he was basically in a stun lock.
I wish i had found him earlier tho cus dodging his wombo combo and horse was super fun.
I don't get this. When he jumps of his horse you can dodge all his attacks. Except the horse charge part. If you dodge the horse, he attacks well your still in your roll animation. Litteraly can't dodge twice fast enough.
You can dodge all four charges. Make sure you're rolling into the horse early and spamming an immediate second roll. Small break while they turn around then same again. I should have put a clip of that in there sorry
@WilstormGaming You gotta dodge THROUGH the horse?!?! Wow, idk why I didn't try that, that feels so wrong 😂
Haha yeah you do, hope that helps!
@@wetwasabi2284 I found out that if you walk towards him before the horse starts running at you you can consistently avoid both of them with two dodges.
You can. After dodging the horse sideways he'll lunge towards you and you'll have to roll into him. It's super fun once you get the hang of it
When I first got to this boss I was like OH MY GOD, A DLC BOSS THAT DOESN'T HAVE NEAR INFINITE COMBOS OR VOMIT INDUCING AOES THAT DROWN THE PLAYER IN PARTICLE EFFECTS AND IS THEREFORE AN ACTUAL GREAT BOSS? I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
how wrong you were ahaha
@@WilstormGaming Actually I wasn't, luckily, although the blue fire attacks are janky and don't fit the boss.
Oh I see you were being serious, yeah I think Putrescent Knight was definitely one of the more fair bisses. As I said initially challenging but rewarding
Dang I just wanted to know how to dodge the big fire wave not block it.
Jumping works better than rolling. It feels like you need to jump quite late as the fire travels towards your feet.
I found it very inconsistent though with the different directions at patterns. When it casts the stand alone fire wave you have to turn around and watch the fire close in from the outside.
@@WilstormGaming ye I can dodge everything else pretty consistently except the big fire wave attack
If carry weight is your concern you probably don't need high boost just for the fire, the magic mitigation is what's important so you could try the carrion knight medium shield
Once you see him going up in the air, run away and wait for the flames. Jump over them
Another flame attack is when it'll go directly towards you. Roll sideways and get ready to dodge again since he'll throw his blade at you
I am having the worst time of the dlc as of right now. I don't like this boss, not a single bit. Still haven't tried out the build you've put out but I will leave with feedback. But in all general, thank you for making this guide, this dlc isn't very friendly.
Happy to help where I can! Hope you get it down and have a better time in the DLC
@@WilstormGaming It was PERFECT, I am incredibly grateful to you for thinking this through and giving us tips to destroy this boss. It went wonderfully good, and I cannot thank you enough!
Oh good, I'm very glad it worked for you!! Bolt of Gransax does wonders haha Hope you have a better time of the DLC!
@@WilstormGaming Thank you! I hope the best for you too for the Dlc.
Would Litany of Proper Death count the boss as an undead
Hmm I suspect not but maybe, but that'd be strong if it did. I didn't think to test Orders Blade so I can't answer that sorry
I Cannot summon the mimic tear on this one, anyone knows why?
I'm not sure why, I generally don't use summons sorry. Th wiki says summons work though so just restart maybe and check what you're doing
@victorafjp if you have used a furled finger thing to try to summon help from another player, you cant summon spirit ash when it is active. Try to quit the game and start over.
Alright so I was having a tough time until I equipped myself with a great shield and put some holy grease in my inventory for my mimic tear and I swear I got off maybe 2 hits on him total and my mimic tear literally destroyed him for me 😂
Try and remember your mimic tear can use every item you have equipped in your quick slots so the more stuff you put in there the better it can be for you.
Nice work, too easy haha! Yeah I generally like to make the video guides without summons because I know that lots of people like to try and do it without summons so I can help them too.
I was here only to see second phase AOE flame attack and you didn’t show it. You gotta be kidding
Sorry! I just block it to simplify things. You can jump it but I found it quite inconsistent, if you don't have carry weight for a greatshield a medium shield with high magic mitigation (Carrion Knight Medium shield) will work for the fire too but not really any other attacks the boost is too low.
Thanks for not summoning a spirit ash. I was looking for some tips, but every video I see has summons. That’s fine and all, but I’m going through the DLC solo, so it doesn’t help me. Thank you sir.
You're welcome, I know many people like to try solo so none of my videos use spirit summons or NPCs.
He is very weak to Holy damage, jump when u see the fire appear, it will just ran pass u without taking damage.
This boss is just unfair. The amount og bs when he separates from his horse. Rellana was hard, but fair. This is next level bs.
If it helps, roll into him rather than away from him when he does it. I thought it was ridiculous too, but it’s actually easy when you know when to dodge and the fact that you need to dodge into him. Try not to get flustered or panicked when he does this. When he jumps off his horse and comes down, you can either dodge away or into him. When he starts to spin, dodge into him. When you dodge into him, the horse will appear, and it’ll usually appear on the right side. Dodge the horse and immediately dodge again as he will immediately start rolling. After that roll, he won’t roll away as far, and the horse will appear closer. Immediately dodge the horse and dodge quickly again into the boss. You need to dodge two consecutive times quickly in between the horse and him. Hope this helps. I find it rather fun to dodge this move, and you can also punish it when he starts to get back on. Haven’t beating him yet tho, the stupid fire attacks are what get me.
This is good advice ^
Dodging works, dodge forward left into the horse and immediately dodge again. Small break while they turn around then same again.
Regarding the fire, jumping was easier than rolling but I still couldn't get it consistently. Jumping late seemed to work better but I definitely recommend using a great shield as I do in the video, simplifies it a bit.
@@WilstormGaming I actually managed to get the jumping down quite consistently. You have to jump as soon as the fire reaches you. Just before it reaches you, as it’s in front of you, jump. I tried using your method with the shield, but I took way too much damage, and because I do such little damage, I’d run out of flasks quickly and die. I’m on ng+ 9 so that explains a lot. Though, your video helped a ton and now I’m able to more or less consistently dodge him. :)
Nah, Rellana wasn't fair either. She doesn't stagger when she gets hit with Lions claw from a collosal Greatsword. That's complete and total bullshit. But THIS boss needs to be deleted from the game.
Melt him with blasphemous blade. Did it 2nd try within 3 minutes
the mimic is sooo useless against him
Wait what? people accually complain about him? Got him somehow at my first try and was wondering if it supposed to be easy like that?
Yeah nah people have been struggling, take a squiz through some of the comments, some people hate more than Rellana.
@@WilstormGaming there's a theory that if you first load Elden Ring - game randomizes bosses so you can struggle with easy one for hours, but you can also nuke hardest boss the first try. It's random to everyone (my nemesis was that first mini boss with crossbow-minigun)
This MF boss is soo annoying
This boss sucks ass
Out of elden ring as a whole, this is the only boss that isn't fun and is just trash. Not saying that cause I was getting beat by it, but it's pooly designed gameplay wise
This boss sucks
