I really wish more guides were like this. Short but absolutely packed with helpfull info! Knowing what the end of her combos look like, knowing the timing of the phase transition, and the tip about not moving to the side is SUPER helpful!
Liked and commenting because of that stance break tip during transition. Using her strongest attack wind up as an opportunity to stance break her is so good 👌🏽 keep it up. I already got her down but good luck to all my fellow Tarnished!!!
I started the fight with Scarlet Aeonia. Then used the Frozen Lightning Spear to proc frost, and I tried my hardest to keep her in the water hoping it would do extra damage but I do not think that it does. I used Barricade Shield on my Banished Knight Shield, and the Miquellan Knight Sword for the charged heavy’s for big stagger when I could. It took me probably 30 attempts but we made it after being able studying her moveset.
Damn, this is one beautiful guide. Most videos on here, just tell you to like 'dodge her attacks', pretty much just the git good "strategy". But this thing is detailed and it offers you a really good way to make sure you take her down.
You just got yourself a new subscriber. I beat her first try with the help from this video(I used bleed affinity because I didn't have cold). Thank you
Thanks for the tips! Especially the one about staying close to her when you're blocking. I'd fought her five or six times before watching your video and then got her on the second try after watching it.
I tried your guide and beat her in 4 attempts. Thank you very much brother! - P.S. If you're trying to tank her, be aware that she dashes and hovers around you so some of her attacks can still connect with your uncovered back. So you will still be getting damaged in you don't orient yourself properly.
This was the guide that got me through the fight! Never would have considered the iron greatsword - let alone the piercing strike AoW. Combine that with cold buildup and this made the fight almost easy. Took me 5 tries simply due to RNG of some bad starting moves / staggering her at the wrong time. Up until before this I prob put in a solid 30 tries. Fantastic guide, thanks!
@@WilstormGaming Thank for being an amazing person that helps us beat this boss and I finally beat it bc of you keep creating that amazing content bc you helped me you earned a sub from me.
Good commentary A tip for new player A katana with cold build staggers her in 4 unsheate moves i keep close to her on her left n force her to swing both swords on upright way thts the time we can unsheate on her immediately
I'd been figuring the trusty greatshield would work well here considering she doesn't heal. As an interesting alternative, you could also try parrying - the timing is a little earlier than you'd expect, but pretty much everything can be parried, and even if you miss the parry, you still take less damage than you would from failing the dodge.
Yeah parrying definitely a good option, I generally avoid it becomes for whatever reason most people don't like/want to parry. But I'd heard it works well in her
@@WilstormGaming I get that position, and usually I myself prefer to 2-hand a Claymore. But in this case, I feel like parrying actually supplements rather than detracts from that playstyle - the big thing with Rellana is that being "Melania but poise" means you can't counter her aggression with your own aggression, as her attacks will always go through. On top of that, she has big sweeps and lunges that can roll-catch, and a ton of fakeout combo enders, so it's also easy for her to trick you into eating a big hit. Parrying is the only thing that can outright interrupt her aggression, and even the 1st parry that doesn't give the full stagger still gives you enough time to 2-hand and give a few swings before switching back to the shield. You could almost consider it more of a "parry-swap" playstyle than just pure parry.
yeah people were saying partying was pretty effective, for whatever reason lots of people don't like partying so I thought a great shield build was more consistent and accessible
I summoned the knight and my mimic tear and used my Lightning Beast Crest Heater Shield +25 to block Rellana's sword strikes. Beat her on the first attempt after discovering I could block her sword.
Can confirm lightning is pretty good. I beat her with Basically using scarlet aonea and the black knife at the start of the fight and then running away when she starts her longer combos and usink knight's lightning spear.
Hey everyone, a really good weapon and weapon art for Rellana is the Nagikiba or Uchigatana and the Unsheath AoW. You get bleed build up and high stagger. I'm decent at these games but I wouldn't call myself particularly skilled but that weapon and AoW has carried me past every tricky boss in this game so far. You still have to learn dodge timings otherwise but if you're going to summon, you don't have to worry as much. While the boss is distracted get off a couple Unsheaths and then run away. Repeat until desired result.
Just won against her today! Here’s what I did. (Thanks for the guide! ^-^) The main I did was use Impaling Thrust while having the summon at the door and spirit ashes take a good chunk of the agro off of you. Impaling Thrust is a good way to get in quick and easy stance damage for a critical hit if you don’t really know what her parry windows are. Another thing is that it’s good to retreat when you can because she’ll turn her attention to you if you land a thrust. It’s also good to get in those thrust attacks as close and often to each other as you can. That, and what the guide showed about attacking her while in her transition period to phase 2 is another handy tip. Hope this helps whoever reads this!
Hmmm you can because I've done it. My guess is you must not have the Glintstone Whetblade which allows you to apply Cold and Magic Infusions - Google it, you can find it in Academy of Raya Lucaria. Check your inventory for the Whetblade and let me know if thats the problem.
So i am NOT a good player, im ok and i understand what the game wants but i dont have loads of knowledge about builds and specs and typically pick a str greatsword build lol. Took me a few hours of constant death to heat her (no summons) so i kinda had to learn all her timings. She can get affected by frost and bleed but also get he affected by ROT which is helpful to just whittle away her life. I found that rather than rolling all the time jumping attacks really helped when timed with her horizontal attacks. Be aware that her final 1/4 health she will do some nonsense aoe attack that will kill you if you dont dodge or jump the first wave. You can do it
Boss was really fun and I got really close to beating her a lot of times it’s just so hard to find a time to hit her for me, also she never gets staggered for me
Yeah her second phase windows are tough. It's good to have a ranged option at times like that so you can keep chipping away at her health from a safe distance
and also make sure you're not running out of FP, it will still do the ability without FP but not properly, the damage and stance damage are severely lowered
@@WilstormGaming I’m using the same setup as you are for the weapon, ash, and shield to ensure accuracy. As for FP, I have a significant portion left over by the time I die in the fight. Is it possible I’m using it too early in the getup animation, or that NG+7 gives her more poise?
I must be doing something wrong everyone here in the comments has had good results but I'm not getting a single stance break on her, she's the one stance breaking me I genuinely don't get this boss 😭
Well the important thing (in my opinion) to simplify the fight is having piercing fang - so any greatswod, heavy thrusting sword or great spear will do 36 stance damage; katanas, straight swords, twinblades, and spear all do 30 stance damage which is probably enough to stance break with 4 x piercing fang but you'd have to test it. If you can achieve any of these with frostbite (cold affinity + piercingfang) that is even better.
Just found a way to cheese her. Just spam Death's Poker range attack with different angles. It will eat her life quickly. If you are lucky you will even avoid her double moon attack.
note that the shild will not work as I used a max shilde with 80 enderence and still got my poise broken but, will say frost and bleed will work on her but messmers flame gress will work best on her as you can get 13k in about 4 L2.
@@WilstormGaming no I get that. But his summon sign isn’t appearing outside the rellana boss arena with Leda. Everywhere I look it’s telling me his summon should be there.
Piercing Fang i think is the most important to make this strategy work. Colossal weapons can't use Piercing Fag but halberds can. YOu could defintely apply this with a cold affinity halberd using Piercing Fang. Halberds will do slightly less stance damage (30 rather than 36 with piercing fang) but I reckon thats probably still enough, you'd need to test it.
I summon my bro mimic tear and continue using Ekzykes’s decay breath and it worked out. I have int/str buid but my sorcery didn’t work out much for her😅
Definitely a challenge! Especially for where she was placed, barely felt like it'd be a tough boss when I first wandered into her room, no cutscene or anything
@@WilstormGaming Same, Definitely did not expect the whirlwind of pain I was about to receive. Parrying is also super strong against her. takes only two parries and I comboed that with those new lighting axes and made it somewhat manageable
As a noob souls player who is attempting to get good, I hope none of the people complaining about the difficulty of this boss are veteran souls players, cause despite dying uncountable times, this fight was FUN ASF!!! TIP: If you are not a full on faith build, spam swarm of blood flies at her and get her health down before you move into close combat. Blood builds, if you break her stance, don't gut shot her just continue stacking blood damage on her it's much more effective.
I am having a hard difficulty but so far my erdtree fragments a equal to lv 3, I think I need to find more, I am almost there, she always gets me with the damn moons
Great video! In my experience the first two deaths I felt intimidated but I somehow managed to beat her in less that 5 tries using a bleed build with maxed out Rivers of Blood and Uchigatana. I also wasn't shy to let the summonable knight from outside the boss room and my own Black Knife Tische summon distract while I picked spots to spam Rivers.
5:43 I despise the moon ability. I died from it while jumping mid air. I died from it when she was only starting to go up. Once the first moon attack hits you you can't roll you can't do anything it's an auto-kill. If not for those damn moons I'd have beaten her by now.
Just learn her moves, have her subtle telegraphs imprint onto your subconscious by repeating the boss. Eventually I was dodging by what felt like instinct on a Sekiro level. Also, having a good ranged option on your ash thats quick and spammable helps. The Storm Blade Ash was super clutch in my final attempt, allowing me to get in a punish if I was out of range, a punish whenever she summoned Glintblades, a punish when she jumped away, and it also allowed me to keep up stagger. I also got pretty lucky in that she decided to Moon me twice. 50 dex, 30 Strength on dual Lordsworn Straightswords, no ashes or summons, level, i wanna say like 95 or 100, Scadu level 5.
Not everyone got 5 hrs to spend repeating one stupid boss. They've gone to stupid levels of difficulty with this dlc and are obviously having a hard time balancing them for the vast array of players
@@MrSwitchblade327 if you don't have 5 hours for 1 boss, you don't have time for video games period, and need to get your shit together. While I agree that the difficulty is stupid, I wish people would stop this bullshit about not having enough time for things. Make time. Also, it didn't take 5, it was probably like 1 and a half or 2 at most.
@WilstormGaming yea I figured it out, anyway thanks bro I beat her up in 4th try with this build without the sheild after more than 80 trys with my old nagakiba build, continue doing these great guides bro.
Do you mean how do I use little stamina when I'm blocking? If so, you need high 'Guard Boost' stat - this is what determines how much stamina is consumed to block an attack. Generally, greatshields have higher guard boost and the one im using here (Golden Greatshield) is one of the higher ones once upgrade. You should upgrade the greatshield to slightly increase guard boost. If you google the Shields page on the Elden Ring wiki it explains guard boost there too.
I found her quite simple, tbh, beat her first try, and I'm not that good. I do use the mimic, but nonetheless. You just need some damage negations and a decent build and you'll be fine. I had absolutely no idea about the summons outside, I wish I did. That would've made it even simpler.
Nice! That's definitely an easy way to do it, I like to try do it without summons because I know many people play that way so I can show the full mechanics of the boss.
@@NicoPezzotti712 The devs wouldn't add NPC summons and spirit ashes into the game if they intended for people not to use them. People can play with self-imposed hard modes if they want, but Spirit ashes are a very core mechanic of this game, even in the DLC as proved by the shadow realm spirit ash buffs.
@@timholloway8821 using spirit ashes is the normal and intended way. Also they buffed scardutree fragments today because you guys didn't collect them lmao you are actually playing easy mode now
thank you for the great video. i finally beat her after like 7 hours 😭. i had to change up the strategy a bit for my character (i started the dlc intending to do a dark moon great sword build with very high int, so not enough strength to effectively use a great-shield and i didn’t want to use a larval tear to respec for one boss): instead of using guard counters with a shield, i used unsheathe. the first phase of the fight was essentially the same goal: play slow, and instead of guard countering, unsheathe r2 to punish her at the end of her strings. timed close enough, 4 unsheathe r2’s were able to stagger her with my cold nagakiba. rinse and repeat until she’s ≈50% hp when you stagger her right before the phase transition, i switched to a cold uchigatana with piercing fang (any weapon will do, but the uchi was my best readily available option for scaling). regather as much stamina as you can (unsheathe uses a lot), crit her with the piercing fang weapon, and then go to town on her with piercing fang. like in the video, 4 hits will stagger her again. for me, after the crit she was around 20-15% hp. from there, i kept hitting her with piercing fang, and with two more hits bleed did its job and she was finally dead. in my opinion, the real strategy for phase 2 needs to be avoiding it altogether. especially for my character that only has 20 endurance, it was very hard to withstand her seemingly endless combo strings, along with all of her stray aoe damage. going nuclear on her ass took care of that issue 😂😂 as for gear, i used the okina mask (needed for dex), and armor that gave me as much defense and poise as possible with a med roll (specifically i used crucible tree chest, melania’s gauntlets, and royal remains greaves). talismans used were dragoncrest greatshield (a must for the dlc), shard of alexander (makes unsheathe/fang stronger), carian filigreed crest (reduces fp cost of weapon arts), and i used radagon’s soreseal to meet stat requirements for the nagakiba, but this slot can be used for anything (jar arsenal to help equip both weapons, turtle to help with stamina recovery, etc.) i think rellana has a really cool design and is a cool fight altogether, but man am i glad shes dead. kinda scared for whatever’s next 😭. hope this helps anyone who happened to be in a similar situation to me!
Nice work! Glad you got her down she's bloody tough. Unsheathe is a great skill, good idea to use it to get the stance breaks and I'm glad to hear the 4 x fang strat still worked with a katana (30 stance damage opposed to 36 on greatsword).
Yeah absolutely, gargoyles is one of the next best. If you are high in strength/intellect cold infusion will be stronger. I'm out of larval tears so had to use my Dex build but the base damage for cold infusion is still pretty high.
Yeah the base damage on Iron greatsword is quite high when using an affinity. Also remember once the frostbite pops she takes 20% increased damage for 20 seconds which contributes to the damaged.
Piercing fang is also just an awesome weapon art. I nearly always go back to it when things get tough, it's quick, closes gaps, does massive damage, 30-36 stance damage and ignores guards. Love it
So I killed her within 10 tries I'm not that's skilled at the game I noticed that they set her for med rolls. If u go light load vs her she misses all her attacks
@@WilstormGaming so there is a hard diminishing return so I'm just wearing light armor and dragon crest talisman and I'm rocking 50 resist, why put on heavy armor of it just gives u an extra 5%. And I noticed most bosses attacks can't even reach you cuz u roll so far away
Yknow what, I'm gonna save you all some time and effort. Mimic tear lv 10. Ruins greatsword lv 10 and beast armor set. She dies. He says she can't be staggered with heavy weapons, every 7th ability attack with the ruins staggers her. Mimic is there to tank. You can beat her consistently and ALL bosses in dlc
DON'T FIGHT HARD, FIGHT SMART!!! I beat this boss my first try!!! I summoned the helper by the boss door entrance. Then once inside the arena, I summoned my mimic tear +10. So the boss had two strong foes attacking her at once and was overwhelmed. I then stood there and slammed down the blasphemous blade over & over and she bit the dust in less than 30sec! Not even a challenge. Malenia was harder, she took me TWO tries lol!!!
Malenia drops 480,000 she drops 240,000 for a boss that's harder than Malenia yeah, the overcranking of this dlc is so re*arded. She deserves more rune drops for her scaling.

Oh yeah, are they good? The death knight ones I haven't tested them yet
@@WilstormGaming super strong and awesome. the skill is pretty bad against rellana though but definitely has it's uses
Nice, thanks! Going to test them now
Ngl I just summoned the needle night then summoned the great sheild ashes, that staggered her alot then I used the giant flame ball incantation
yeah you should definitely use summons if you want, I generally prefer to try play without them but lots of people who like using them
As a noob souls player who is attempting to get good, I hope none of the people complaining about the difficulty of this boss are veteran souls players, cause despite dying uncountable times, this fight was FUN ASF!!!
3 is very low, go get a few more, enjoy some of the content then come back and you'll breeze through it
@@WilstormGaming I will thanks
Great video!
In my experience the first two deaths I felt intimidated but I somehow managed to beat her in less that 5 tries using a bleed build with maxed out Rivers of Blood and Uchigatana. I also wasn't shy to let the summonable knight from outside the boss room and my own Black Knife Tische summon distract while I picked spots to spam Rivers.
am i a POS if i used a summon knight from the DLC and a micmic tear to beat this boss? pls lmk if im a coward
No ofc just play how you want. This boss is garbage and extremely tedious anyways
@cal7772 thank you I agree this boss was terrible
5:43 I despise the moon ability. I died from it while jumping mid air. I died from it when she was only starting to go up. Once the first moon attack hits you you can't roll you can't do anything it's an auto-kill. If not for those damn moons I'd have beaten her by now.
Wish I had a mikiri counter for this fight
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good weapon to use is dragon's halberd. Does lightning frost damage
Yeah similar to the dragonscale katana, but I like Piercing Fang too much haha
Can some one hook me up with rellanas gloves and greaves I really like the armour set but I don’t have the dlc thank you
Awesome boss
She didn't do the moon attack for me such a cool attack
Easy for it to kill you though if you miss-time so maybe a good thing you missed it
why dex is 64?
Just happened to be what I was up to. I was primarily playing dex build at the time
@WilstormGaming yea I figured it out, anyway thanks bro I beat her up in 4th try with this build without the sheild after more than 80 trys with my old nagakiba build, continue doing these great guides bro.
How does he use such little stamina
Nope the summons outside male it harder because it gives her way more health.
I summoned the gold sign outside, called the mimic and did this first try lmao
Yeah of course mimic is easy mode in this game. So people cam play it on different skill levels.
@@timholloway8821 summon is actually normal mode.
@@timholloway8821 using spirit ashes is the normal and intended way. Also they buffed scardutree fragments today because you guys didn't collect them lmao you are actually playing easy mode now
thank you for the great video. i finally beat her after like 7 hours 😭. i had to change up the strategy a bit for my character (i started the dlc intending to do a dark moon great sword build with very high int, so not enough strength to effectively use a great-shield and i didn’t want to use a larval tear to respec for one boss):
instead of using guard counters with a shield, i used unsheathe. the first phase of the fight was essentially the same goal: play slow, and instead of guard countering, unsheathe r2 to punish her at the end of her strings. timed close enough, 4 unsheathe r2’s were able to stagger her with my cold nagakiba. rinse and repeat until she’s ≈50% hp
when you stagger her right before the phase transition, i switched to a cold uchigatana with piercing fang (any weapon will do, but the uchi was my best readily available option for scaling). regather as much stamina as you can (unsheathe uses a lot), crit her with the piercing fang weapon, and then go to town on her with piercing fang. like in the video, 4 hits will stagger her again. for me, after the crit she was around 20-15% hp. from there, i kept hitting her with piercing fang, and with two more hits bleed did its job and she was finally dead.
in my opinion, the real strategy for phase 2 needs to be avoiding it altogether. especially for my character that only has 20 endurance, it was very hard to withstand her seemingly endless combo strings, along with all of her stray aoe damage. going nuclear on her ass took care of that issue 😂😂
as for gear, i used the okina mask (needed for dex), and armor that gave me as much defense and poise as possible with a med roll (specifically i used crucible tree chest, melania’s gauntlets, and royal remains greaves). talismans used were dragoncrest greatshield (a must for the dlc), shard of alexander (makes unsheathe/fang stronger), carian filigreed crest (reduces fp cost of weapon arts), and i used radagon’s soreseal to meet stat requirements for the nagakiba, but this slot can be used for anything (jar arsenal to help equip both weapons, turtle to help with stamina recovery, etc.)
i think rellana has a really cool design and is a cool fight altogether, but man am i glad shes dead. kinda scared for whatever’s next 😭. hope this helps anyone who happened to be in a similar situation to me!
Nice work! Glad you got her down she's bloody tough. Unsheathe is a great skill, good idea to use it to get the stance breaks and I'm glad to hear the 4 x fang strat still worked with a katana (30 stance damage opposed to 36 on greatsword).
Is a cold gargoyle Great sword okay? I couldn't find the iron one.
Yeah absolutely, gargoyles is one of the next best. If you are high in strength/intellect cold infusion will be stronger. I'm out of larval tears so had to use my Dex build but the base damage for cold infusion is still pretty high.
Thank you 😊
Welcome, hope it helped
im shocked the weapon art did 1400 dmg to her even though you're maxing dex on a E dex scaling weapon, and low str and int
Love it
If you don't use Spontaneous Guard, this fight is painfully dogshit. This and the final boss are some of the worst bosses they've ever made.
Wow the piercing fang with the great katana destroyed him.. havent played for 2 days and i killed him first try today 😅😊
*her
@@BriefKeef yeh her 😅
I love the difficulty and the fight is a lot of fun but I can’t beat it so I’m here
Hope the video helps you get her!
The only problem i had was with the frames and the lag (in on ps4😔)
Build that pc brother. I graduated from ps4 about 2 weeks ago. Had been on ps4 since they launched.
@@alastor8091and then what, rebuy the game AND the dlc and start from the beginning, all to beat one boss that has too much glitter?
@@dirkdelacroix5949 Fuck, why not? If not for Elden Ring, at least so you don't have to worry about it in the future.
@@alastor8091 bro is trying to get a remembrance, not invest in his future
I am level 300 in ng+4 I so far stomped every biss first try with my mimic alone
Duh you're using mimic
He beat her so easily it was like nothing lol
So I killed her within 10 tries I'm not that's skilled at the game I noticed that they set her for med rolls. If u go light load vs her she misses all her attacks
That's interesting, I had not even considered that and not even really familiar with how that works. I'll try that on my next play through
@@WilstormGaming so there is a hard diminishing return so I'm just wearing light armor and dragon crest talisman and I'm rocking 50 resist, why put on heavy armor of it just gives u an extra 5%. And I noticed most bosses attacks can't even reach you cuz u roll so far away
guard counter with shield + the deflect tier is easy mode
Bear her first try with Mimic and holy
Yknow what, I'm gonna save you all some time and effort. Mimic tear lv 10. Ruins greatsword lv 10 and beast armor set. She dies. He says she can't be staggered with heavy weapons, every 7th ability attack with the ruins staggers her. Mimic is there to tank. You can beat her consistently and ALL bosses in dlc
Man fuck this game. 😂
I must have died a few hundred times. That 2nd phase is crazy.
My game is on ng+7 is there a way to reset that so I can play the dlc without getting 2 shotted by normal dogs
Malenia drops 480,000
she drops 240,000 for a boss that's harder than Malenia
yeah, the overcranking of this dlc is so re*arded. She deserves more rune drops for her scaling.
I can NEVER pull off a guard counter she ALWAYS DOES THE FUCKING CROSS SLASH SHIT
Not a pro soul player but i beat her with black knife with tiche summon.
this boss just so ficking hard
Just spam maliketh black black ash of war and use summons
First boss I beat was very easy
