    I did the same harness on my 66, took me about a month with my busy schedule and by myself. I had never done wiring before but this kit made it easy, just take your time with it.

    I performed this project in 2018. I am a total novice and after watching this video, I can see that I did quite a few things the hard way. The customer support at Painless is world class but this video would have been an enormous help. Nonetheless, this was a very worthwhile project and, as a rookie when it comes to this stuff, I really learned a lot about my '66. I recommend it.

    Probably the best video so far. One thing I would have used is insulation to keep wires together, and heat shrink on the terminals. Just me..

    This is nice. I'd love to do this transition, but at nearly a $1000 I'm going to have to put that on hold and tackle some of the more pressing issues on my '66. Maybe one day.

    I'm in the process of installing the painless wire harness for my 69 coupe (Part #20122 Direct Fit Mustang Chassis), and it has been a slow process given that it's my first time ever doing anything like this. The manual is very helpful though, and the kit comes with everything you'll need. Just take your time with it, save the old pigtails, save the turn signal wiring connector, and consider buying the Painless PowerBraid Kit.

    I just purchased the kit and am pulling the wiring out at this time. The video does not say anything about the wiring going into the steering column. Is that in the kit? I assumed everything but since you did not show the steering wheel coming off I am wondering if I also need to buy that smaller harness and maybe you detached from below somehow. My wires are all wrapped in tape so I don't see a way to disconnect the wires before they enter the column yet. Anyone's response is appreciated.

    In and around the engine bay, there are little plastic clips to hold down the harness. Does this kit come with replacements for those that you'd recommend, or is there a different brand that sells those separately? Or just take a trip to O'Reilly's?

    I am interested in updating my 65 Mustang, however the problem I see with this harness is the afterthought of cutting and using some of your original plugs. Is this correct? Did I miss something? Seems most of our old wiring would be fine as long as the insulation is supple enough and doesn't crack in your hand. I've had that happen and have replaced a harness because of it. The updated fuse box is the hook with this harness. However, our problems often originate at the plugs. Why wouldn't you guys sell the harness with all new plugs? It is asinine to me that you would have us add a point of failure by using connectors to attach old plugs.

    • @6cobrasnake9
      @6cobrasnake9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wiring a car is most likely the hardest part to work on. Around 95% of the time a car fire is caused by faulty wiring. Mechanics won’t even go there. It is much easier to wire up your house then for you to wire your car.

  • @okhotrodder

    I've installed several complete wiring harnesses from painless and other suppliers. None are painless. They are all a pain in the butt because no vehicle is exactly the way the harness is setup for. Some wires are way too short, others are way too long. And I find that the wiring gauge size is just too small to handle the power draw in most projects. It takes days if not weeks to rewire a vehicle.

  • @marknelson1712
    @marknelson1712 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You sell 2 painless wiring harness. I wish you would have recommended the mustang harness with plugs. The other one is a pain in the a_s to put in. You should do a video on it. The instructions are a nightmare.

    Informative, but the tools and techniques are really disappointing. If you installed a harness the way the gents did, you'd have endless electrical problems. First, the wire crimpers. Buy some quality ratcheting crimpers that do more than squish the connector from the top. Second, use shrink tubing on all connections. Adhesive-lined is best. Third, NEVER run unsheathed wires through metal holes. Always use powerbraid or equivalent. For best results, remove the plastic shrouds on butt connectors and terminals, crimp, solder, and shrink tube. The wiring system is pricey and it takes a lot of time, so do it right. The job done here would look amateur and be a real turn-off at a car show, auction, or -- most important -- 800 miles down the road.

Then it could actually appear as a production wiring harness instead of uncle Chuck decided to wire your car after a case of High Life
