You are making great progress, you went from a cool ride to cruise on the weekends to a cool car that you can drive daily and your friends aren't afraid to ride with you they were worried you would break down before.
Great video. My wife and I had a 66 when we got married and your right that steering was way over assisted and leaked like a sieve. Great to see a young man into classic cars and not some rice burner .Keep up the good work. I look forward to your videos.
Great job- this reminds me of my issue with headers. I had a 71 F100 with aftermarket headers. After couple years of fighting them, I went to a junkyard and converted to stock manifolds. Made my life much easier.
i like that you took the extra time and effort to clean and paint parts not directly related to the main chore. your fabbing frined did a great job too! the power steering cooler is a nice touch. nice project!
I love my Borgeson setup in my 65. Installed it in 2018 and it’s been flawless since. They sell a kit to reduce the line pressure of the pump. This will make the steering a little heavier and less over boosted. I highly recommend it.
Great walkthrough! I also ripped out the PS in my 67 because of how horrible it was. Not sure if I could bring myself to go back to having a pump and hoses, but you sure did make it look clean. One thing I gotta call out, though: it would be a good idea to move that bird feeder when spraying, just to be safe.
That came out great, I've been debating about doing the same steering system, it looks much cleaner than I thought it would. I'm also anxious to see what you end up doing when you get new seats. I've been stuck on this topic for a while, but I'm sure you'll get the perfect set! :)
I'm glad you went the extra mile on the installation on your new 🔋power steering. Get connected with Vintage Air. Maybe they will set you up for free with a system
If you think it’s tough for you now to muscle around wait till you’re in your mid-70s I’ve got a 66 coupe C4 that looks almost identical to yours. I put Borgeson on mine about two years ago I have 1:52 225, 60s 15 all the way around difference is night and day
See if you can add more positive castor to the alignment, that will make the steering a bit heavier, give it more feel, and will give more straight line stability. And a increase in front end grip when cornering.
A little at a time cherish and appreciate the time with your Dad that would of been a good time for a tilt wheel watching you shift its time for a short throw shifter it looked like you were reaching into the back seat for second I thought you were going to hit the dash going into third B&M should send one reach out keep them coming Ben 👍😎👍
I love your videos like this. It's awesome that you and your dad get to work on your car together. Love your enthusiasm for classic cars, it's infectious. As far as your tach, don't get too wound up about it. You need to be one with your car and feel the engine and hear it to know when to shift. You don't need a tach to know know that - use the force my young apprentice! 😂😂😂
This might be the best video you have done. I bought a 66 Fastback Factory GT that I have already start building. Found a 9"limited slip differential that is getting rebuilt right now. I guess borgenson steering is also going to be added to the long list of performance upgrades. I also want to say special shout out to your Dad, since I am about his age and I would be doing the same if I had a son. Right now I am lucky because my wife is in the garage sanding to body to get it ready for paint. So shout out to my wife too. 🙂
Surely it would have been easier to have removed the engine? My nephew installed this system, it was completed inside a day once the engine was out, as you say there isn't much room to move about under there. Great video. Regards from south east England.
Hey there Ben, awesome 👍 job, doing all of the bonus beautification work along with the new box.. I have the same new box, and doing an ididit tilt column as well for my 65 FB, though haven't installed yet. Loved watching install video.. PS, I've also got a 65 289 coupe, over 36 yrs now, I've rebuilt the ram and control valve only once. The pump and hoses twice. So not all of us, have had a bad stock PS experience!!! Keep these videos coming, they put air, in many of our sails !!!!
Another one Helluva upgrade !! That pony is turning into a Badazz canyon carver 🏁 Probably the most important part is ..ya got Your Pops to wrench with …🤙🏼
I really like that car. Just a great, authentic 60s Musclecar. What I don't like so much is so much music in the background, especially when there's dialog. I'd still watch your videos even if you ran accordion polka in the background, lol, but just know there's such a thing as too much
Vague power steering - a Ford specialty. I learned to drive in a 76 and 78 Mercury Marquis - between the 6 feet of nose out front of the windshield and the totally numb power steering, it was more like steering a boat than driving a car.
Awesome project. And you are now literally a shade tree mechanic ha ha. Also by leaving the power steering cooker raw looking at it Quick through the grill it almost looks like a Shelby American logo. Kind cool lookin. Hope you had a lot of fun with your Dad these are times you will always cherish. Great vid and thanks for sharing.👍
I considered the Borgeson system for my '73 Mustang. But I read online that it was not a direct fit replacement for the Saginaw box mine came with. So I ordered a replacement unit from Rock Auto. Getting it installed tomorrow. Hope yours work out!
I have the same set up and the only thing I had changed out were the hoses. The V8 hoses sat too close to my headers, and so Borgeson suggested their hoses made for the 6 cylinder which was much longer and I was able to to routed it higher up on the shock tower away from the headers.
Hey thanks for the video I remember my sister's boyfriend bought a brand new66 Shelby Mustang it's copper bronze what a cool car went to go for rides he road race the car it was copper bronze with black interior 4Speed was 11 years old that car still exists I saw 10 years ago to car show it's still nice car here's something dumb my buddy just bought a 69 Firebird 400 4 speed convertible it's complete it has a title it's so Rusty it's broken in half he paid $8,000 for it you can learn a lot from a dummy thanks for the great Mustang video your car is coming along well no one ever thought that these cars would be crazy collectible like a lot of cars have a great day
bro your editing/filming/content quality is so good.. can't wait to see what you do with the channel as it continues to glow up.. keep up the good work homie 🤘
Wrapping your headers with lava wrap will save a lot of heat in the engine bay. The equalizer bar for the clutch is more commonly called a Z bar. Great work Ben.
Nice job Ben. I've been on the fence with power steering conversion. Manual steering is great while on the road but parking in tight spots is a bear. I'm looking at Mike Maier's system with the KRC pump or EPAS. Also nice job on the headers.
Great support network you've especially your dad. Also, some of us do our best work with random tools. Haha. I've driven a car without rag joints once and hated it. If I was corning hard it would bounce the steering causing me to swerve more it felt like.
I always love restomods, keeping a classic alive but making it modern where possible. Next part should be a 5-speed, for better performance and economy.
WOW!! Lots of work!! CONGRATS!! My 66 Mustang 2+2 had stock P/S when I bought it. After 3 power steering pumps in 2 years I pulled it all off. I'm fine with the manual steering.... Why the the clutch crank have to be changed?? That's a PIA alone!! Good to see you again. Thx
Great system and a huge improve on the antiquated system. I installed this in a Corvette C3. Only problem I had was with the U-joint, the caps kept slipping out, I see yours have four spots on each caps that hold the caps from doing this, just like mine had, and they failed. I had to drill and tap cap screws that will prevent the caps from slipping out.
Maybe you should invest in one of those "garage"-tents for when you work outside in the sun for that sweet shade. :) Tried tinting your headlights yellow? Should look sweet also. :) Making me wanna get one of my own!
Just installed my 68 Actually works Very Great. My Mother was out . Yes the parts you used was the same. I ordered several wrong at the time you need it Threaded on both ends with a shaft. My only Concern is how close the power steering lines are To my long tube Hooker Headers gunna try to pin them Back. And heat tape them Maybe.
Subscribed and hit the like button!!! Its cool you and your dad work on stuff together!!! Your Mustang is a really neat car!! Look around your area for an industrial business that does flamespray. Its a cheap, really cool header coating. I think it may be called aluminizing and flame spray both??? Up here in WA state (above you) the local guy charges about 25.00 per header. I had VW heat exchangers and a muffler done and it lasted years. Bright white color. You guys have a nice home to do this work!!!
Great job, Ben. Enjoy watching your progress on your Mustang. Also like how you clean improve the reused parts rather than just slapping it all back together. On the video it appears your steering wheel needs to be recentered as it looks like it is off to the right. Nothing a few turns of the tie rods can’t correct. I did a Borgeson swap on my ‘68 Charger and it had that slight whine coming up the steering column into the car. I had to nudge the wheel a touch and it would stop. Mostly at stop lights.
Interested in doing this with my 67. I've seen a few complaints of leaking after install (4k plus mile reviews on forums, etc etc.) May be due to the heat, which using that heat wrap would help for sure. Wondering if you have any post install reviews? Thanks!
Awesome, great detail and effort put into your work. I love to throw some fresh paint on shit as well lol. You still liking the new power steering system?
I like what you and your Dad and “pit crew” did Ben, looks like the only thing you need to do is center the steering wheel, looks a little off when you’re going straight …But overall a great job!
Nice job on the Mustang as usual. If you go to paint the P.S. cooler use a paint designed to paint a radiator core. Spray bombing it with "regular" rattle can paint is a no-no.
Watched a few of your videos. Better get that speedometer fixed so we know how fast you're going. Probably be good for you to know too. Also, I'd take it back to who did the alignment so they could get the steering wheel centered properly. They should be able to get it closer than that. You can also do it yourself. Just google around. I beliere are 2 adjusters. You turn them equal amounts in either the same or opposite directions to maintain the alignment and adjust the steering wheel. Nice ride, looks like fun!

Been following you for quite a while Ben. Your ride has really progressed! Enjoy your videos. So you know if they make a power steering set up for F100’s? I have a 1965.
I can't believe it took until '71 for the Mustang to get rid of that non-integral power steering. My '65 Impala has integral power steering, '64 was the last year for non-integral on those cars.
Not sure if you said it here in the vid, was looking into a kit for my 65 as well. 65, with stock z bar and a 4 speed toploader. Everything I see shows that the kits wont work with a stock z bar and to use the other one you mentioned, yet it seems like that one only works for the 6 bolt block/bellhousing, not the 5. I have a 5 bolt. When doing the research for this, did you come across any kits or bars that would work with a 5 bolt?
Nice job. I drained the power steering fluid out of my 1966 Mustang because of leaks. It is a pain to keep from leaking and I don't drive the car enough, which kind of is a crime. How come you would like to put another engine in? I think these 289's are pretty stout and are capable of decent power mods although probably not the most cost effective.
What size tires are you running ? I’m running 235/60 15 and I look and there’s nothing rubbing or touching when I turn the wheel, but when i drives I hear rubbing when turning
The guy that fixed the frame is a metal worker!! Is he the same guy that works for Hot Rod magazine?? Your mustang is a really cool Hot Rod!!! We need pictures of your girlfriend driving now that it steers EZ!
Follow me on Instagram @benkahan for more content!
man, happened to the youtube videos? hope everything is ok.
Are you still making content?
Man really miss the videos
You are making great progress, you went from a cool ride to cruise on the weekends to a cool car that you can drive daily and your friends aren't afraid to ride with you they were worried you would break down before.
Ben's the best automotive TH-camr. If you disagree with me I'll fight you.
Great video. My wife and I had a 66 when we got married and your right that steering was way over assisted and leaked like a sieve. Great to see a young man into classic cars and not some rice burner .Keep up the good work. I look forward to your videos.
I just installed Borgeson Power steering on my 67 mustang. You video help me tremendously! Thank you.
Anything special not in this video u ran across i jus got this for my 67 289 auto been looking at the prices and i found one for 800
Great job- this reminds me of my issue with headers. I had a 71 F100 with aftermarket headers. After couple years of fighting them, I went to a junkyard and converted to stock manifolds. Made my life much easier.
My 70 long tube hookers are a bit fun when replacing the starter .....y did i do this lol
i like that you took the extra time and effort to clean and paint parts not directly related to the main chore. your fabbing frined did a great job too! the power steering cooler is a nice touch.
nice project!
I love my Borgeson setup in my 65. Installed it in 2018 and it’s been flawless since. They sell a kit to reduce the line pressure of the pump. This will make the steering a little heavier and less over boosted. I highly recommend it.
Great video Ben! Quite a bonus project with that frame rail!
That DEI heat shielding works great. I haven’t melted any steering hoses or speedometer cables since I started using that stuff.
Nice to see your making films again, be cool to see some updates on your dad's hotrods the starliner and 32 duece and model t are so cool
Great video! As usual, what seems like a simple project/upgrade turns into a major project, but the end result is worth it.
Good to do things just once.
I actually loved the manual steering in my 67, especially when banging those gears.
love my borgeson kit big block mopar 73 road runner gonna put fast ratio pit man and idler on to make it more responsive but so far so good!
Does Ben still make any videos? Anyone know? Loved his content
Cool Dad for sharing his time a a network of pals who have mad skills. Your car is looking good don't paint it.
As usual Ben & Dad did a Awesome Job! Time to hit up all the parts vendors for some sort of sponsorship. Until Next Time, Keep Smiling!
This is the video that I've been waiting for. The exact procedure that I had in mind and the parts that I need to buy.
Awesome job! Man Steve’s job came out great! I put a Shelby box with a rebuilt kit for the column in my 65 FB turned out great! Keep on hot rodding!
That came out great, I've been debating about doing the same steering system, it looks much cleaner than I thought it would. I'm also anxious to see what you end up doing when you get new seats. I've been stuck on this topic for a while, but I'm sure you'll get the perfect set! :)
I want vintage racing seats, but I need a roll bar in the back to run seat belts properly. So it's likely going to be a while. Thanks!
I'm glad you went the extra mile on the installation on your new 🔋power steering.
Get connected with Vintage Air. Maybe they will set you up for free with a system

I think some Dakota Digital gauges are in your future! Nice install.
You will almost have a new Mustang when your done Ben. Great your chipping away at your car, now don’t sell it😊. Nice to have your dad to help you.
Awesome job. So nice that your dad helps out
Great job Ben....how about a film on the history of the Burbank Choppers..cheers
Another one Helluva upgrade !!

I bought my kit form Mike Maier Inc. His kit comes with an aluminum KRC pump. That borgeson box is a fantastic upgrade for our old mustangs.
I have the same set up and the only thing I had changed out were the hoses. The V8 hoses sat too close to my headers, and so Borgeson suggested their hoses made for the 6 cylinder which was much longer and I was able to to routed it higher up on the shock tower away from the headers.

Nice!! Glad they could get you set up.
Thanks for the connect! I appreciate it
Wrapping your headers with lava wrap will save a lot of heat in the engine bay. The equalizer bar for the clutch is more commonly called a Z bar. Great work Ben.
I thought the same thing about the z-bar too
That's cool you get to spend time with your dad and fix cars, he is a good teacher. What road did you cruise on? I know Mulholland but not that road.
Nice job Ben (& Aaron)!
Nice job Ben. I've been on the fence with power steering conversion. Manual steering is great while on the road but parking in tight spots is a bear. I'm looking at Mike Maier's system with the KRC pump or EPAS. Also nice job on the headers.
I dont like mustangs very much but I'll say that you have an awesome car and you clearly do a fantastic job at maintaining it
Great video, Ben! I guess I'd like to know what you think of the feedback it provides compared to the factory power steering.
Great support network you've especially your dad. Also, some of us do our best work with random tools. Haha. I've driven a car without rag joints once and hated it. If I was corning hard it would bounce the steering causing me to swerve more it felt like.
Fitting borgeson on my 73 mach1 went with ford pump as its a Cleveland 351 and don't want grief mounting a Windsor type gm bottle pump
Great video. Im switching from the z bar to a cable clutch instead. Way smoother.
I always love restomods, keeping a classic alive but making it modern where possible. Next part should be a 5-speed, for better performance and economy.

Your car must be so nice to drive, with the brake upgrades and the power steering 👍👍
That power steering bracket is due to the headers .It is lower or taller than oe one to clear the headers .
Nice job man. I needing some steering upgrades on a 79 trans am. Not sure which way to go
Great system and a huge improve on the antiquated system.
I installed this in a Corvette C3.
Only problem I had was with the U-joint, the caps kept slipping out, I see yours have four spots on each caps that hold the caps from doing this, just like mine had, and they failed.
I had to drill and tap cap screws that will prevent the caps from slipping out.

Ben uploaded! Today is gonna be a good day!
I have a Borgeson box in my Camaro. They actually make them about 20 minutes from me. I hope you like it!
Another great video. I very much enjoy your work, keep it up.
Great job, Ben. Enjoy watching your progress on your Mustang. Also like how you clean improve the reused parts rather than just slapping it all back together. Wow, here in Canada we don't do power steering cooling, that I've ever heard of.
Nice work, by the way.
All that sanding and painting is the Hot Rod way👍
Interested in doing this with my 67. I've seen a few complaints of leaking after install (4k plus mile reviews on forums, etc etc.) May be due to the heat, which using that heat wrap would help for sure. Wondering if you have any post install reviews? Thanks!
Great vid!!! 👍👍
Awesome video man! Lookin good 👍🏻🤘🏼
Awesome, great detail and effort put into your work. I love to throw some fresh paint on shit as well lol. You still liking the new power steering system?
Yes! I’m just trying to diagnose my bad tac😂
I like what you and your Dad and “pit crew” did Ben, looks like the only thing you need to do is center the steering wheel, looks a little off when you’re going straight …But overall a great job!
Love your videos. Does Steve the welder do house calls? I need some minor welding on my 64 Fairlane 500. Im in Burbank!
I had the u joint in my car; I couldn’t stand the hissing and had to put the rag joint back in.
Nice job on the Mustang as usual. If you go to paint the P.S. cooler use a paint designed to paint a radiator core. Spray bombing it with "regular" rattle can paint is a no-no.
Great content as always! Keep up the great work.
What are your thoughts on switching out the rag joint for the U-joint? Im getting ready to install the Scott Drake PS upgrade kit and may add this in.
You're doing a great job it's going to be nice when it's done🙃
Great episode
Watched a few of your videos. Better get that speedometer fixed so we know how fast you're going. Probably be good for you to know too. Also, I'd take it back to who did the alignment so they could get the steering wheel centered properly. They should be able to get it closer than that. You can also do it yourself. Just google around. I beliere are 2 adjusters. You turn them equal amounts in either the same or opposite directions to maintain the alignment and adjust the steering wheel. Nice ride, looks like fun!
I'm surprised it didn't have a collapsible steering shaft
Thanks for the great video's!!

Been following you for quite a while Ben. Your ride has really progressed! Enjoy your videos. So you know if they make a power steering set up for F100’s? I have a 1965.
How are the graphite wheels holding up? They look good in the videos. Curious to know since it’s been a couple years now. Love the channel keep it up!
Where did you find those keystone wheels?
I can't believe it took until '71 for the Mustang to get rid of that non-integral power steering. My '65 Impala has integral power steering, '64 was the last year for non-integral on those cars.
Nice!
Where is Ben Kahan. Great videos !
Tach could be off due to welding on the car. Did you disconnect the battery?
Spoiled spoiled spoiled❤😂 glad you got it dune hey have a great day
Ben, how much does that system cost for parts and labor. Thanks in advance.
Do you have to have a rack n pinion system for this to work ?
What size tires are you running ? I’m running 235/60 15 and I look and there’s nothing rubbing or touching when I turn the wheel, but when i drives I hear rubbing when turning
The guy that fixed the frame is a metal worker!! Is he the same guy that works for Hot Rod magazine?? Your mustang is a really cool Hot Rod!!! We need pictures of your girlfriend driving now that it steers EZ!
did the vht paint hold up? see alot of vids with a error
