That's great Jerry, nice work. Yeah finishing is the longest and most daunting part I find - when you're making a mess everything's great, then you have to clean it up... The luthier who actually enjoys sanding must be the happiest man in the world!

Well this was outstanding Jerry, and you saved me a lot of time and trouble, I will never build a 12 string. You did a wonderful job, you should be very proud of the work you do

It sounds like sandpaper when you go over the service. Indeed, you need paper that cuts through it and building layer after layer. Then in the end polish and you have a museum piece ✨️ 😊. I love your video's by the way. I loved this story. What a guitar can do in a man's life 👏 💙

some folks apply to much pressure while sanding and not sense the sand paper cutting .. it takes some practice to sense the paper cutting doing it's job .. that's why when they sand with their fingers actually cuts a finger sand grove .. you must be applying just the right pressure with your fingers ... it's all about letting the tools do what they are supposed to do ... it's skill and awareness true craftsman learn over the years ... great job !

Sounds and looks amazing. You should ship it to me and I'll break it in over the next few decades.....when the Scottish fellow wants it I'll most likely send it to him. Plus you won't have it taking up room in your shop. Everyone wins.

Mr Jerry Rosa has been sanding all day
Applying oil finish and then removing the same away
Filling up the holes toothpick and all
Removing leopard spots having a ball
Getting near the end of that 12 string wood
Its looking good and you know it should
Jerry needs a break his hands are sore
That delicate finish job shook him to the core
sorry people this is that last 12 string, there will be no more.
    (anyway that's what he said)
The Finish poem dedicated to master Luthier Jerry Rosa.

Your absolutely right about sanding with the small sandpaper squares. If your trying to level a large rough surface, then absolutely use a sanding block.
What your doing is very fine sanding that benifits greatly from precision sanding with your fingertips. There is no device better designed and more capable than your fingertips and your brain. It takes some practice to get the "feel" for it, but once you realize the control and precision of the technique you use, it really is the best process.

Superb sounding 12, Jerry - one of the very best that I've ever heard in all my 58 years of loving and playing 12's. Your guitar has a perfect balance from bass across to treble with plenty of traditional jangle but without any harsh overtones. It's very rare to find a 12 built to such exceptional standards which still has that almost 'raw' musicality of a 12 which just begs to be strummed AND used for playing instrumentally. It will sound just as good when played quietly and with subtlety and also when strummed vigorously. I'd bet it is also well-suited to fingerstyle - and that is not always easy on a 12. My love of 12's began in 1963 after hearing the Rooftop Singers 'Walk right in' (1962) and then finding an LP of 12 string instrumentals in a music store in Birmingham (UK) in 1963. It was by Billy Strange who became and has remained one of my all-time 12 string heroes. He died not too long ago, but his music often rings out in my home. He would have LOVED your guitar, Jerry . . . an absolute, instant, one-of-a-kind classic. During those 58 years I have owned and played many 12's and, with one exception, always kept them tuned one whole tone below standard.
If folks don't know Billy Strange and his 12 string - this is the LP I found back in '63 . . .
    th-cam.com/video/dM7arCdXsKY/w-d-xo.html
Of course, Glen Campbell was a top session man and was well known for playing a 12 . . .
    th-cam.com/video/mFp7L2Bb35g/w-d-xo.html
If you're a real fan of 12's, this CD is superb. It hgs a wide range of instrumental styles by many of the Greats . . .

Amazing, stunning, beautiful, almost makes me want to get another 12 string. No maybe not, last one I had was 1986, & I "forgot" that one when I left Texas.(last I heard it was in San Antonio.). Jerry you are amazing, or as my granddaughter would say "The awesomest"!!! Beautiful guitar!!! (or did i already say that?)

I've had a Tru-Oil finish on a black-powder rifle that's about 40 years old. Tru-Oil is a tough finish. I'd call it nearly impervious to soap and water, gun oils, etc. Dirt, grime, and chemicals you'd never get close to a guitar. :)

    Hi Jerry,
I’ve had the exact same problem.. then I discovered never use sandpaper on oil.. the sandpaper leaves debris which is what you’re feeling now.
The trick I learned via trial and error was simpler than you might think.
1.) apply/brush (I use foam brushes) Tru-oil filler multiple times to build up the layers.
2.) between each layer, after a 1-2 day cure time, use 0000 steel wool until smooth
Lather;rinse;repeat until grain is smooth, or where you like it
3.) finish with final coat Tru-oil using the same above method.
Let cure for at least 5 days until all layers are fully cured.. rushing now will make you start all over again.. don’t ask how I know.. 😬
Final buff with wheel or automotive buffer.. I’ve even used semi chrome to touch up spots that won’t buff out.
Give it a try on your next project. Let me know how you make out.
    Good luck!

Don't know if this would apply to musical interments ....But my uncle who made fine furniture with special type wood..........I asked him once how he filled in the wood pores
much like seen in this video on that guitar .......He said he mixed his finish with turps...thinner in the first coats and mixing up more finish to turps...until he had filled the
pores and then full coats of finish after this......As I said I only know this worked for him
I am talking here in the late 1960s ......he died 1980 at 94 yrs old .....he was a master builder with wood ...but what finish he used I don't know but I do know he also did the Linseed oil hand rub or what he called French polishing on some of his furniture ..I'll leave it to you who is more in tune with what he would have done ......beautiful Jerry ....thanks
