Thanks for this. You could've just built the guitar, shown the process, and said nothing. Most people would not have understood the difference, or that you were making up side length. They would have probably assumed it was part of your process. But one of the things I've learn in woodworking and instrument building is that things don't often go as planned. Figuring out what to do when that happens is what makes a craftsman. Echoing sentiments already expressed, it is fitting you would do this on a final commission. That makes this instrument even better.

You're a crazy soab Jerry! You're also smart, funny, entertaining and a Master Craftsman! I think that many of us are envious or we admire the life you've lead. Thanks for showing us what a moral, skilled, ingenious person can do when things don't go as planned...

I’m so glad you went forward. Prettiest wood I’ve ever seen. The two best woodworkers i have known observed something to the effect, “The difference between the Master and a journeyman is the ability to hide their mistakes.”
Not a mistake, but a wonderful alternative. You did what you do best. Solve the problem!

You are one of my Top-Mentors in wood crafting, & Luthier skills! There are few that have documented the process, as detailed as you have! DYI (Do it yourself) skills, learning, passing your skills, knowledge, experience along to others is a passion for learning from every build perfectionist, but few have proved themselves as you have in documented videos.

I recently bought a very inexpensive mandolin thinking I was going be able to pick it up and start learning. Boy I was wrong... I did however, anticipate this would be the case by watching you mando full meal deals come to life. Although, I'm no luthier I was able to mimic most of your motions to get the instrument into a playable range. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. When I'm ready for an upgrade I may just have to visit your vacation home and see how the master of the full meal deal does it.
