This really helped me get my brakes working great again. The tip about centralising the pistons at the end helped massively. Really well explained, thanks for a great video!

Love my Hope brakes so many different ways to bleed them. Think next time i will have a crack at this way i want to flush the whole system out completely with new fluids and this way would be perfect for that. One thing you missed and its such a tiny thing, the bleed nipple can hold a drop or 2 of fluid so its a good idea to teist a bit of towl and poke it inside to pick that drop up. I bet you dod it but forgot to say it. Brilliant informative video super clear thanks.
glad i found this site!! i have some old hope M4's that need a refresh they have braided hoses too :) really good job with your explanation i have watched a few really bad vids
Dave, your instructions helped me dead on. My only issue now is, with the wheel off, the brake feels exceptional but once the wheel goes on lever gets spongy
Excellent video mate....... saved me a right ball ache. I bled the back brake a couple of times and it felt fine until I rode the bike, and then it went spongy AF. Followed your tip for getting air out from behind the pistons and now it's solid. Keep up the good work my man!
if you get the bike in the stand and rotate the front high and the lever you are bleeding turn towards the seat .. A toe strap helps. gets you all nice and flat (saw it on the hope vid)
Thanks for the great video. I'm changing my brake pads which are very low. I'm having a hard time getting the Pistons fully pushed in. Any tips? And just to confirm, when changing the pads, I don't need to open the top reservoir do I?
Great video, I was always debating to use a syringe in a similar way to the Shimano method for the hope brakes. Seeing this absolutely helps. I already have the easy bleed reservoir but the hope method was always messy and cumbersome using the lever and bleed nipple back and forth. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work. 👍👍👍
What syringes are you using? All the bleed kits I have use tubes that don't hold on to the nipple as well as yours or others that I've seen so I think your tubing is smaller.
Hi Paul, we buy them in bulk, www.medisave.co.uk/terumo-syringe-20ml-luer-slip-eccentric-tip-x-box-of-50.html they are only used once then disposed of, that way we dont get cross contamination and the silicone tube sticks better to the end when new
Hi, i have a question, i lately rebuilt levers and calipers with new seals and pistons, fitted braided hoses on them and did everything as you explained but it seems like there is some air trapped inside still, since pistons of the caliper are new and pushed in i cannot manage to get them moving outwards, lever goes fully to handlebars and i dont know what to do anymore, tried it 3 times and still no progress towards pistons moving out.
Hi, A stupid question but when you rebuilt the levers did you put the one wate washers on the piston right?, can you pass fluid freely from the caliper up to the lever and does the reservoir fill up?, when the reservoir is full can you press the lever and does fulid fill the syringe on the caliper?
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic ty for asking, i did put washer on the right side, i sorted it out and bled them correctly, problem was that i did not put bleed nipple on the caliper to be highest point of the caliper during the bleed and it got lots of air stuck inside the system, now they work as new :D
@@JuanRamirez-hk8sf Hi, Thanks for watching, Since DOT 4 and 5.1 are both glycol-based brake fluids they are compatible with each other, which means they can be readily mixed without harming your brake system. It is important never to mistake DOT 5.1 (glycol-based) with DOT 5 which is silicone-based and should never be mixed with any other DOT fluid.

I gave thm a good wash beforehand so I wasn't pushing gŕit back into my piston seals, but they were still really hard to compress......any ideas? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi, Thank you for watching and your comments. If your levers feel good then your caliper is in need of a service, pistons out, a good clean, new pistons and seals.
A up Dave …I always thought you pumped the lever to get the fluid though …..your way seems nob on ,will try it next time I do me v10 hope brakes ….got a right horrible squeal on me Kenevo sram brakes ,any ideas how to sort it would be greatly appreciated…cheers mate 👍
Hi, as long as there is no air in the system this is the best way to do it, if you pump the lever it and encourage you to add more fluid then when you put new pads in the pistons don’t retract fully, it’s also best if you put bleed and put new pads in at the same time.
I do have the bleed kit for the new Tech4 brakes. Used the Hope Bleed video to bleed them after shortening the hoses. I just saw that bleeding the caliper I did wrong I guess. Did not fix the lever on the bar and pushed the pistons back.. After doing that 3 times on different days, the lever still feels "spongy". Might try this again like you did it. Or the lever feel is just as it is with Hope brakes coming from Shimanos.
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic hey, so I tried it again after watching your video. The lever feels the same afterwards. There was no air behind the pistons. I took the bike for a ride after that and while the lever feel more squishy than shimanos the braking power is top notch. So I guess I was not used to that feel. Thanks a lot though. Will use your method for future bleeding
Apart from removing air in the system I thought one of the reasons for bleeding brakes was to flush out old fluid and replacing with fresh, or is this not necessary? Love the channel, toodle pip.
Hi, Thanks for watching, brake fluid and mineral oil goes grey and thin when spent, you can usually tell pretty quickly what condition the oil is in. Also by filling one syringe full and the other nearly empty to can still make a full fluid change and still remove air.

Hi can i ask I'm shortening my brand new rear hope e4 hydraulic disc hose, i don't have a stand can i complete this with wheel on and do the pads need to be open or closed cheers.
Hi David, you don’t need a stand to do it, if it’s not internally routed fit the brake then shorten at the lever end. Leave the calliper as it came out of the box. Shorted then re-connect it, don’t press the lever, push the pads back this will send any air back into the lever lever then set them up as normal
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic i have fitted the brake, i will just shorten the hose at lever end as shown in video where I'm confused is what position the pads need to be in. The video states pads need to be touching cheers

These are both glycol based fluids and can be mixed, although it's advisable to flush the line through with the new fluid to maintain a constant performance.
