Fractured coil pack for the cylinder misfire and not fractured spark plugs. The 3rd cylinder misfire, upon research, seems to be a common problem with the stock ignition coil pack. I also had a fractured fuel assembly for the smell of fuel with my 2003 Mercury Sable LS, Duratec engine, glad it didn't catch fire from the exhaust. I thought maybe it was a bad fuel injection seal considering where the smell came from, but no. New upper intake gaskets, EGR gaskets and I cleaned the IAC plus gave that a new gasket, this fixed the choking I had when giving it gas. Installed a new PCV valve since my upper intake had quite a bit of fresh oil inside. New PCV elbows closed a vacuum leak I had, rubber gets old and corroded. Next on the "fix it" list, new EGR vacuum lines and lower intake gaskets. Duratec 24-valve V-6 has balls!.., when everything is fine and dandy to floor it lol. Saving big money buying simple tools to fixing things myself.
@@joshbuckley4434 I'm having similar issues on the exact same 2004 Ford Taurus (SES?). Find my comment on this video it has a detailed description of my issues. Weak starter (possibly from leaking oil filter which I have oil on mine too), failure to start within first 1,000 rotations, random misfire, as well as some electrical problems isolated to the ICP logic fuse and ICP, and possibly some grounding issues. What have you found regarding the misfire?

Start from the airbox and just remove everything at this point. Clean airbox, clean air filter, clean intake tube, spray MAF, replace vacuum lines and boots, replace or clean pcv valve, clean throttle body, clean EGR, clean IAC, grease all plugs. Your there so you might as well. THEN, remove upper and lower intake and spray thoroughly with throttle body cleaner then clean them with dawn dish soap and water and let dry completely. Removing the lower intake will give you a good look at your valves so clean that if you can but be careful. Now go ahead and remove the fuel rail and fuel injectors. Clean entire top engine carefully. Hook up your injectors to your battery with speaker wire to open them up and spray throttle body cleaner through them. Replace spark plugs (iridium), wires, and coil pack if needed. Replace all gaskets and clean everything! Spray WD40 on a rag and wipe down anything you can reach. Put it all back together except the MAF, intake tube, and airbox and filter. Start the car and let it warm up then spray a little WD40 at a time straight into the throttle body. DO NOT HYDROLOCK YOUR MOTOR! Shut the car off and let it cool down. Put airbox, tube, and filter back on. Check fuel filter. Start it back up and let it warm up again and take it on the highway and drive aggressively while maintaining safety. Check
My 99 Taurus 100,000 miles ago had a rough start when warm, no codes and it ended up being the fuel pump. Now it's doing it again. The codes my car had is already fixed. O2 sensor, transmission range sensor, and intake manifold runner sensor. It does have a long weak rough idle upon start up when warm. But it drives fine after it is started.
Good morning, do you think the O2 sensors would make it burn lean fuel?? Because my scan on my 05' Taurus se keeps saying something about burning lean fuel.
I bought a 2004 mazda 6 three years ago with this engine and the only problem is intermitent misfire. I changed all 6 coil pack and bam misfiring again. Then try to replace the spark plugs but three of them are completly jam. In other words im pissed at that engine because the car is a gem. It can be the headgasket tho.
How's it going Jeff? I had a question. I just had a reading of a misfire in cylinder 5. Cars been shaking like crazy, when I'm at the light, it's even doing it now when it's in park. I changed the spark plug and a coil, but the check engine light still hasn't gone off. I feel it riding a little better it feels like it has more power, but I'm still getting a slight hint of the misfire. What do you think I should do next? I have a 2005 Mercury sable LS.
Hello I have a 2003 mercury sable and I and getting these codes P0320 and p0351 but I have already changed the spark plugs, coil pack (distributor cap), fuel pump, and the fuel filter and the car still shuts off after being on for so long. Any advice? I need help
2007 Ford Taurus Sel, I was getting a misfire in cylinder 1 and 6 with a to lean in bank 1. I replaced the spark plugs and 6 went away but cylinder 1 is still misfiring the plug wires and the coil pack look like they where replaced by the last owner. I have a mafs on the way for the to lean code but I still can’t figure out why the hell the thing is misfiring it’s super super noticeable at 1300 - 1900 Rpm then after that i don’t feel it, it also is super bad at a stop if i was driving someone help me please lmfao
This dude can NOT be an ASE Certified mechanic. His handling of the removal of the upper intake manifold and mass air flow was very sloppy as was his removal of the EGR valve and assembly. I just disassembled the same type of engine and using Jeff's diagnostics methods I STILL wouldn't know what was wrong with my 3.0 in my 2001 Taurus. The cylinder order should be 1 2 3 5 6 4 from rear plug on passenger side to front plug at driver. No wonder #5 cylinder was misfiring yet his #4 plug was the fouled plug. C'mon Jeff!!
FYI ford has a lot of motors that are notorious for throwing out spark plugs. Even tho the plug has a lot of threads the head is thin. They must be torqued to the proper specs to prevent, Never put plugs in a late 90's early 2000's ford without a torque wrench'. I had plugs changed on my 99 Navigator and about a year later it spit a plug. It takes all the threads and you have to put a helicoil into fix. So please use a torque wrench on ford engines when changing the plugs. Of course the shop that changed them took no credit for and I was stuck fixing it myself. I know the titan engines was the worse but they had other engines also so I say all ford engines to be safe. just google ford and spark plug problems.
I have 1999 Taurus SHO WHIN I TRY TO CRACK IT IT SEEMS TO BACKFIRE .Can any one help me with this . Or would any one wand to buy this car .the body is perfect and the interior is perfect not a tear or a dent .Also has a am fm cassette and a 6 cd changer in the trunk

Eduardo León Morales you are very correct sir it would be a crime to make this a parts car , but I just don't have the energy I used to have when I was much younger .Because o believe some day after I'm long gone these SHO TAURUS will be worth some money they only made 2200 of these SHO IN 98 and they were made in Atlanta and according to the research I did that was the last year they made them with the 8 cylinder engine designed by Yamaha .I read they made some more in 2016 but have stopped them altogether now. If you hear of anyone who want to buy the car cheap and put it back on road put them in touch with me Thanks
I believe P300 is the code for random misfire. Which means more than one cylinder is misfiring. If it were just one specific cylinder it would read P301, or P302 and so forth, designating the exact cylinder that is misfiring.
I did this on my ford and guess what, I replaced the coil and the problem remained. And if you listen closely in this video, the car still has a terrible idle.
Steve Walther your problem for the lean code is most likely to be a vacuum leak, check the distribution block near the fire wall above the brake booster..

Did the code clear up after the coil replacement?
If you have a rough idle you need to check all of the emission hoses and make certain you use two gaskets on the EGR valve.
I've got a cylinder 2 misfire and a misfire on startup 1000 revolutions.
Would that be the coil pack or could it be the injector
Is this how you fix the code for multiple cylinder
Mine has the OHV and it has the same kind of misfire????????
What I'm thinking is you have a dirty air filter or dirty MAF which can cause it to feel and sound like a misfire
