Engine misfiring : How to TEST an IGNITION COIL easily ? (Lack of power, excessive fuel consumption)

- The engine dashboard light is on on my car. The engine vibrates and has a lack of power.
The diagnostic tool show the trouble code P0304.
It means that there are misfire on the cylinder number 4.
After having tested the charging circuit, I test the ignition coil on the defective cylinder with an ignition coil tester.
I show you how this tool works.
Since the ignition works well, I test the spark plug with a spark plug tester. The spark plug doesn't work.
So I replace it and check that the engine works well.
The dashboard light becomes off and there isn't trouble code anymore.

Awesome detailed video on how to test fo4 misfires. Thanks and keep making great videos.
Thanks
Incroyable diagnostique, j'adore aussi tout les outils que tu as!
merci bien
Was looking for a demonstration of how that coil plug tester worked, thanks a lot
You're welcome
Thank you for this very informative video. I just bought one of these ignition testers, and hope to find the issue with my Ford Fusion.
Liked and subscribed.
Keep up the good work.

Hi can I install external alternator regulator kit on my 2011 town and country? because my alternator stopped charging still even after installing new alternator and battery.
Will the spark plug test work even on lawnmower spark plugs too ?
I have a v6 and a lot of vibration regularly snd my truck does not show a code ?? But it acts like a coil pack or spark plug . Oddly it behaves well when I take it to a shop. . Ie no codes ??? So what is the next step ??? Thank you .
ignition coil tester not available and no idea when or if it will be available. any suggestions. found an oriGlam tester but can't tell if it tests the coils for the Lincoln town car. I replaced coils and plugs and having misfire on cylinder 3.
Keep it up
Thanks
I check check mines seem like its working but my sparks are yellow red definitely needs replacement i also got shock for not using the tester like on the video 😅
Hell yea...can you do a troubleshooting fuel pump and how to replace it if it's bad video please
I haven't this video
Good job. Its much faster with a multimeter check,
Thanks for the message.
Wiseman
awesome
thanks
YES, but do you have so much oil on the original spark plug, in the first place?
Because he sprayed a bunch WD-40 into the hole before removing it.
I used a spark plug tester( it has a tube just like your tester with no adjustable distance) on my '95 maxima, the spark was yellow, and a channel on youtube said a yellow spark considered weak is an old wives tale. I'm a bit confused. Can timing cause a weak spark? Thanks.
I don't think timing can cause weak spark, but misfire yes.
@@EnjoyWheels_En OK. The spark appears to be intermittent by about a half second to a second where I don't see anything then it reappears; any advice? Can the ignition condenser cause a misfire? Thanks a lot for replying.
On old engines, a bad ignition condenser can cause misfire.
You said in the video that you put link in the description, 🤔
Its true but its on the french revision for the moment
the mounting hole does not act as a ground
Can't afford all that equipment. All i was looking for was how to check a coil pack. Your over my head. I'll try another one.
My experience, I plug of 1 coil while the wngine running, if vibratioan more than before it means the coil is good, note don't plug of too high (1cm -1, 5cm is good to go)
If your car doesn't have a pencil coil like the one in this car, you can pull the spark plug wire from the coil or the spark plug while the engine is running and observe the spark.(if you are sensitive to getting a little shock use pliers. (The spark doesn't really hurt) before starting the car you can pull the wire and install it back(just to make sure you can pull the boot from the spark plug or coil) on older vehicles you will have a distributor cap and all the wires are connected there. Good luck.
How many cm the right spark 1 or 2 cm ?
The manual says 2 cm I think
@EnjoyWheels_En so a healthy ignition coil should jump a 2cm gap? I have a 2008 trailblazer with 175k miles...all I ever did was replace spark plugs about 10k miles ago...I don't want to replace any ignition coils that are fine but I would like to replace them if they are weak
If you have no trouble code, there is no need to replace them.
Something that wasn't said; if you have one bad plug, the rest are probably not far behind and they should all be replaced.
It's right, thanks
Shouldn't you replace all the spark plugs so the engine gets the same spark all over???
Yes it's better to replace all the spark plugs at the same time.
How about the coils after 100,000 miles? Replace them to.@@EnjoyWheels_En
If they work well, no need to replace them I think
Yes replace them all .
nice video for the coils but you are wrong the coil is not ground by the bolt which holds it to the valve cover. on the coil there are two connectors, one for voltage and one for grund. The proof is that to test it with a multimeter to check the primary circuit you must connect to the two branches of the coils and for the secondary circuit you must connect to the connector of the coil which receives the voltage and the other wire of the tester connected on the spring which connects to the spark plug.
The real problem with Ford coils of this type is that the worst idiot would surely have done better. In 55 years of mechanics I had never seen such a stupid thing. The spring that connects to the spark plug is a very poor conductor. At the exit of the coil to connect the spring it is simply a flat terminal so the spring only touches the connector through the thin sides of the terminal. To the spark plug which tells us that the spring is really completely embedded on the spark plug terminal???
On my F 150 to no longer have to change coils I made a plate where the coils are now held in place. I removed the springs that connect to the spark plug and installed good spark plug wires. At the other end I installed very good NGK spark plug caps which hold really very securely to the spark plug. All you had to do was extend the wires of the coil connectors and that's it. I've never had to replace coils. Thus positioned, the coils no longer suffer from the heat of the engine. Heat is the worst enemy of coils on all engines.
Thanks for these informations.
I neeed same videos i am uploading my chanl TH-cam
