At least the garage fire has lead to more creativity lol. I have that harbor freight welder, it was in the trunk of my buddies jetta when he bought it and he gave it to me. I stitch welded my frame and have made multiple exhausts with it off a 50 foot super cheap extension. Good little unit. Ive welded professionally, and that little thing dosent disappoint me after using much better units

Some dude has a 99 Maxima v6 manual listed at 2k with 245k miles looks like it's in good condition, dude even said 3mo warranty, but God only knows how honorable or enforceable that'll be. It was listed with 24.5k miles and I asked if he forgot a zero, which he admitted to. 12-15hrs later he, unprompted, said he'd give it to me for $1300 but I declined due to my friends' suggestions. There are also some 2012 Focuses in my area in the 4-4.5k range with LOW miles. One fully loaded auto with 73k and the other's a base model manual with 103k. I just really don't know what to do, man, or what'll truly be "reliable" or not for the next 2 years and that I might be able to reasonably work on it to make it better. Plus I also kinda want something that's a bit of a platform, and a 99 maxima is no damn platform, lol. I mean, I've seen people do some pretty solid shit with non-platform cars and work with what they've got (you included), but I'm not confident at all that that could be me.

B15 Sentras like I have are really reliable (the 1.8 not the 2.5, they've all been beat on)

The coupe with 68k miles is listed for 4900 which is now out of my range and it also has a white front and rear bumper as well as some body damage on the trunk and fender that the owner has more white body panels for. The sedan has 177k miles and isn't much cheaper, TBH. There's also a 2017 fusion (the only one I could drive for uber/lyft in) but I haven't heard back on whether the recall was done or what engine it has. The next most "exciting" to my brain (because RWD and more than 4cyl) is an 08 Lexus IS250 with manual. 190k miles, though and $4800 IIRC.

Finding a RWD car that hasn't been beat on within an inch of it's life for cheap is difficult, especially with a manual. Miata comes to mind, but they're 4 cylinders. You could get an automatic mustang and manual swap it if you don't mind some work
