I am starting my own channel, with heavy inspiration from @HatersGarage and Macromachines. I can only hope to make people laugh half as much as this guy.
I love your energy and being real about the situation. No flashing screaming over dramatic bullshit and genuinely being funny. Also long video format is great insted of many short ones. Definitely want to have similiar mindset when i get to have cars of my own.
I try to hit the high points of what I'm doing as much as I can. There's a lot of stuff I do I don't put in at all because I don't think it's interesting enough.
Sweet revival! I would say finish deleting all the 80s crap and throw a regular carb on there. A whole vid of satisfying trashcan tosses. Then "restore" the wheels and get some fresh rubber, THEN sell it. Save the next owner the headache.
You're right. Those old mechanical fuel pumps DO in fact suck. Takes a while for them to get fuel up to the carb but once you finally get the lines purged it doesn't take long to start.
From ripping out 6 metric tons of wiring with no connectors or loom, and endless hard lines and vacuum lines from an 83 Eldorado, props to you for being able to manage it and get it running properly 😆🙌
ive been waiting for another one of these after the Expedition!! the finesse and grace at display here is unmatched, as always. what the heck are you gonna do with this thing?
As a fellow YJ owner, I think you should definitely keep this thing and change it up! Mine's a 93, so it's not 100% the same, but close enough that I can take tips! Great work, man!
I wanted one of these as a kid. But living in Australia as a teenager, I was told Jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket. Needless to say I didn't buy one. Kinda nice to see something I wanted as a kid getting some TLC
@@HatersGarage Yeah I still have the car I bought instead some 25 year later - turbo MR2 SW20. It's just a sunday driver now. I've done nothing other than exhaust work, bushing replacements and the usual maintenance mechanically. Still makes me laugh what I did to that car in my 20's when I look at photos, absolutely filled with speakers and subwoofers. Now it's pretty much stock. Had I bought that Jeep I wonder what crimes against good sense and taste I would've done to that Jeep.
@@Midori_Ringo So it looked like a Fast and Furious background car in other words. Cool that you've kept it, I plan on keeping my first couple cars forever.
FYI you do not need the panhard bar on leaf springs, all it does is cause your leaf spring bushings to wear out quicker as it causes the axle to deflect to the side during articulation. If you have starting issues, missfires, weak power under acceleration or just random shutting down on an early YJ with a 4.2 it is very likely your ICM is faulty, look up the Nutter Bypass. If you want to get rid of it, I will gladly give you $500 for it!
They decided to add a panhard bar at the factory, I just didn't question it and put it back. I read about the nutter bypass, but it was running good enough so I didn't do it
@@HatersGarage The bar was put on because of the old body CJ's stability. They really do not work and always break off. Look at any other solid axle / leaf spring setup, no one runs them, You have better spring travel, and a better ride without it, as the springs can flex up and down without being pushed and pulled sideways, It also messes with steering to a point on bumps. Hit a bump, and it tries to push and pull the axle side to side,
I went through and eliminated every vacuum line except for the ones going to the distributor and the brake booster. Swapped on a Motorcraft 2100 carb and replaced the ignition system with an HEI module from an 80s Firebird. Started easily, ran well, plenty of power, and same gas mileage. Ran it that way for 10 years until the rings finally wore out.
The way you make your videos is perfect, don't linger in one place too long, do little cuts across progress, definitely what keeps people the whole 42 minutes, keep it up!
Refreshing to find a person who makes videos that arent full of stupid ass sounds or meme edits every 30 seconds. Solid jokes even if they all dont hit, keep it up looking forward to more
The stupid slave cylinder recently died in my Ranger. I usually end up with major "while I'm here" never ending project syndrome but somehow I managed to take the trans out, install an eBay slave/throwout and reinstall the trans while completely ignoring the leaking everything during the project. I feel like a new man.
With the grease zerks, its' that manufacturers realized they could generate a steady, stable stream of profit from parts sales by making everything throwaway. The 2 cents a zerk are just a bonus.
I just Instantly subscribed because of this guys humor, definitely made me laugh pretty hard a few times. Glad he brought this jeep back to life, loved the process of him fixing the dang thing. When is he gunna start racking ducks on the dash? 😂👍
Hey, who hasn't plugged an old vac line with a golf tee? They're perfect. Replace that whole carb system with a new one or upgrade to something more electronic. I have a mid 80s toyota with a weird ass carb system and it's just such a pain in the ass. Before you sell it you should definitely upgrade to an electronic fuel pump and electronic fuel delivery(new intake, fuel rail, etc). It should basically be bolt on stuff but would improve the reliability a lot, plus you could sell it for way more. Also I don't think drum brakes are extinct. Lots of entry level vehicles still have them on the rear, along with fleet vehicles. It blows my mind when I see it.
i would end myself if i had to use a harbor freight flaring tool for ALL of my hard lines dawg. you are the sole reason I finally bit the bullet and bought my celica project car. i had to replace the brake line and got one okay flare out of the harbor freight and then never achieved it again. you're a real trooper
Definitely get rid of that old computer and put an actual carb on there, I'm sure theres stuff on the internet about replacing that shit cause the community for these is sizeable. loved seeing a longer video, good commentary+questionable mechanic methods= a good time in my book
Also the reason you might not want to delete egr is knock. EGR reduces combustion temperature, and when you remove it you can get knock without a proper tune and knock sensors. Not guaranteed just can happen.
When it stumbled and died and the cap on the ps cap shook lol. Youd be amazed what you call sell it for with mud tires on it. Throw something aggressive on and make some dough.
Got to love a restoration which actually *restores* and doesn't just replace every little thing in the car but still call itself a restoration instead of a "replacaration" lol

Put the older mechanical carb on and scrap all that vacuum crap and it will run noticeably better
I 2nd this
I 3rd this

Those AMC straight 6's are great, though the power difference between a carb'd 4.2 and the EFI 4.0 is considerable
Yeah the carb really holds the 4.2 back, I was reading about people putting EFI on it and making more power than the 4.0
@@HatersGarage Please EFI it!
I've got that sputter/misfire at idle after my '82 CJ-7 4.2L warms up (and some extra power would be nice too); what EFI system would you try?
@daviderickson9445 I would put a MegaSquirt on it with MPFI. An easier but more expensive option would be a sniper EFI.
heh
adding efi to a 4.2 is practically a bored 4.0
nah u and Franzj definitely should colab
Thats a great idea.
