This mod worked fine without tape for about 2 days, I’m noticing loss of range now since then and getting slightly worse. Almost couldn’t finish a test earlier today so I’ll be tearing it open again to add the conductive tape to help reduce the feedback. Honestly still worth the upgrade imo, the old sticks just like to drift all the time or get stuck. Mad annoying in windows mode

@@okestgamer my issue is actually that I believe something was bent. I go between a bunch of handheld devices and ended up finding this behind a couch cushion and ever since the left joystick forces the cursor to the left side of the screen. Asus said they could only use Hall sensors for the sticks OR the triggers. I wish they had picked the sticks instead of the triggers because those sticks' internals look very similar to Switch joysticks
I just placed the order and I’m gonna work on isolating the issue. Along with me doing the 4tb install this will be my second mod and I’ll continue to mod as new parts or methods come about.
@@okestgamer absolutely, I bought it to mess with and I’ve always been that way and while it might not be everybody’s cup of tea , it does benefit some when workarounds come about.
As usual excellent video, I recently found my right joystick seems to float downward on its own, tried calibration but still occurs, do you think it’s a joystick problem or software
This is probably the interference happening. I’ve been finding from some others that it tends to be random how it responds to the Hall effect. Random between devices I mean
Really happy to see someone has tried this out! I was disappointed when I heard that person from Asus reveal that you'd get interference with HAL effect sticks.
@@mydingling well, of course. when creating something you can do anything, but you can't do everything. The R&D costs associated with developing and testing a solution that is not cost-prohibitive to mass manufacture were probably beyond what they felt would give them the profit margins they wanted on the price point they wanted to sell the device. That is, after all, how every product development on the planet goes.
Yeah I believe a little bit of copper tape under the joystick would help interference and if you worried about it touching stuff, kapton tape on top of it
I didn't know it wouldn't boot with the screws in. I got it to boot after forcing it off and back on again without the screws. I'm fortunate my stock sticks don't have any drift. At least we know ASUS excuse was true about the interference. I really look forward to a solution as I miss the hall sticks on my ayaneo.
Even if you just have the hall joystick on the right one only its still beneficial as FPS game player. That's whats making most of the fine movements anyway imo.
Thanks for your support. So the hall effect sticks don’t drift over time like the normal ones do. Unfortunately the interference causes issues as well. I did a part 2 where I fixed that, but it does not seem to work on all ally devices. I would hold off for now
Definitely, I’m waiting for mine to come in. My luck isn’t great with Ayaneo parts arriving (just received my parts from December and they are the wrong colours lmao
Same thing with the ayn odin if you put hall sticks.. It has hall triggers as well. Asus didn't put hall sticks probably for this reason. It's a great replacement though.... Wish there was a block between the magnetic fields so there wasn't interference
I wanted to try in replacing my right joystick head, but I do not feel comfortable on pulling on the battery cables and there is no easy way to remove that plug-head otherwise. In addition, the screws on the joystick module is really small and requires a special screwdriver to remove.
Yes having good tools definitely is a must. I would suggest not diving into this one if not feeling too comfortable with it. I've found when I'm nervous about a mod I tend to make a mistake a little easier than when I'm comfortable
Even if not, the current workaround doesn't seem bad at all, which is ultimately why I pulled the trigger regardless. That, and, perhaps stock? Once more people see this.
I thought about stock as well, atleast for the right stick only since that’s mostly aiming a gun & camera around in almost anything you play. We’ll see, I’m ordering conductive tape to finish this guys mod and see how it goes compared to nothing. HAS to be better than what I have now, wasn’t this had on initial install
Hey OKestGamer, so I just got the Gulikit King Kong 2 Pro.. which has both hall effect triggers and joysticks. On the left joystick (right if you are looking at the back of the board) there is a metal shield on the back of the board where the joystick is... I wonder if you do the same thing if it would take away the issues you're experiencing.. Anyway, look into it if you haven't already!
@@okestgamer yeah, I just placed an order. I'm really glad you tested this out. I kinda want try out to see if I can place mini mouse track pad on this next.
@@okestgamer yeah I saw you mention it in another comment right after I posted. I just ordered the hall sticks last night. Interested to see what your solution is. I'm trying to solve an issue I have. During gaming, my right trigger activates randomly even with my hand completely away from it. I thought maybe it was just sensitive and adjusted the trigger in armory crate but it was still happening. I haven't been able to nail down the cause 100% because it's sporadic but the most often way I was able to replicate the issue was when using both left and right joysticks and rolling them inwards towards each other (both pressed towards the screen). It's annoying but I already put my 2TB drive in it and changed out the thermal paste and got it all set up and tons of games downloaded and I don't feel like going through it all again so I'm trying to not have to return it for a replacement.
Yeah that issue is pretty weird. If you adjust the beginning of the trigger higher and it’s still doing it, I’m not sure what’s up. Maybe the stick isn’t going all the way back up. They are Hall effect so it should only activate when the magnet gets closer
I'm pretty disappointed in aokzoe i ordered 64 gig variant and it's delayed a month. Oddly enough I'm really loving my rog i was on the fence buying with the possibility of returning it but I'm definitely keeping it I like how user-friendly it is, i just hate the battery but I'm usually plugged in playing on the couch😅
Yeah the battery life is a little lacking. If you play plugged in and turbo, I might recommend setting a custom fan curve. It gets very warm with how relaxed they have the fan set at default.
Exactly so when they said the triggers interfered with Hall effect sticks they were right. Hall effects triggers were the way to go! IMO Hall effect sticks are over rated because of the whole drift issue with the Switch. The joysticks are great stock and mine don't have any tracking issues. Testing using the same site
It's just not worth the interference and possible inaccuracies. Defeats the purpose of the reliability of the Hall sensor. I know it's early but I don't think the stock sticks are going to present any issues
Great video thanks for making it. Question the price of these Hal Sticks on the OneXPlayer site is it for one or two of them? The site does not state that information Thanks
That I unfortunately don’t know. I had these sent for some device repair videos for my aokzoe. I borrowed them from that to test this out. My guess would be for each stick
I'm surprised that Asus doesn't make and sell these upgrades themselves as they have obviously gone to such lengths to make the rog ally easily upgraded.
You’re a godsend. I’ve had the ally for 2 weeks and my left analogue x axis just died randomly when I turned it on. Didn’t want to take it back bc I spent a lot of time customizing it. Good to know the stick replacement is relatively easy. No idea what a Hall effect joycon is, but eh

I'm going to tell you, I live in Argentina and I bought an ally, the problem is that the right stick doesn't work sideways and I can't ask for a guarantee. Is there a solution so I can solve the problem? Please help
I bought two of these and installed. The right stick works fine and there is no interference with the Hall effect trigger. Like the video the stick doesn’t quite reach the ends of the right circle but fixed this with the calibration tool in ASUS Armoury Crate. The left stick is a total no go for me. No matter what calibration setting I choose in Armoury Crate the trigger still interferes with the joystick . Also as an aside onexplayer for some unknown reason decided to declare my 30usd order for 109usd and I got charged handsomely by customs … a very expensive exercise and hope onexplayer can resolve this
I will only do this IF i get stick drift down the line. But I am not that much of a hardcore gamer. I play games everyday but spread between my PC, my PCVR and my quest 3 headset standalone games and my ROG ally and my steam deck. So I don't think I will get stick drift but if I do I will do this mod. In fact i would probably replace it with the standard ones anyway if there is interference. Job done.
Thank you for shareing jumped on that purchase. And will be awhile before I get them. Hopefully a way to mitigate the interference will be discovered before I get mine. Otherwise it will be another fun mod to mess with. One of the first things I did with the steamdeck was take the metal contacts that are in a xbox one dpad membrane and bend them to fit the posts under the dpad and the face buttons on the steamdeck. Its night and day. The button presses are extremmly solid and tactile now no mush. Will have to remove the mainboard on the ally to do the same thing although its alot more work steamdeck was easy to reach them.
@okestgamer Do you have any comments or concerns about the wifi chip and also the SD card slot being right underneath the heatpipes? I'm going to work on isolating a small area of those heat pipes where they are above those problem areas but I will not be able to do much if it's on the fin stack.
Honestly, I just adjusted the fan curve and it changed thing’s dramatically for the SD card slot at least. Now it feels perfectly normal and not close to burning.
My problem is when we ultimately get Linux support ala Chimeraos or Halo Os Then we will have this Hall effect issue to deal with, not sure if we will have native dead zone calibration in Linux.
Yeah that part I would not know much about. When I see Linux folks talking about fixes in discord servers, it just looks like they are solving all the world’s problems and I am just there nodding my head pretending to know what’s up lol.
I love you I have been looking everywhere for sticks my right one is super loose and pops when moving direct left to direct right and I would prefer to swap than get a whole new unit and risk another issue popping up since this is currently my only issue and I am very comfortable doing my own repairs I have done a full shell swap on my steam deck and this is child’s play in comparison
Yeah this is a very easy repair. You can grab 3 or 4 (a couple spares) and then change either only the right one, or jump right in like I did and adjust the deadzone until we find a solution.
It's just not worth the interference and possible inaccuracies. Defeats the purpose of the reliability of the Hall sensor. I know it's early but I don't think the stock sticks are going to present any issues over the years

Also come october, gdp is going to release their deadzone software. I'm probably gonna get the win 4 pro come Christmas sales and after review are out.

Thanks for putting the part links. Have you found out what time of cap the joysticks use. Mine actually is starting to eat away the plastic were the joist I’m hits the LED wall. It’s like sandpaper eating away the joystick. I probably press to hard. Anyways. If you can find compatible caps that would be awesome.
I'm still on the fence on buying a protection plan for the rog . Best buy gives you 30 days after purchase to buy a plan. I feel with how early repairable the rog is that i mite not get it. I feel like i rarely ever have to use the protection plan but with rog not having standard joysticks that worries me. I'm just curious did you buy a protection plan for your rog
No, I rarely buy warranty. If your sticks break and you don’t want Hall effect, you can buy the same stick as the ally for like $6 on alliexpress. Install is the same as this video
So my question is if like me you're having issues with the left anolog left axis can i instead switch out the left anologe stick with an offical asus rox ally stick rather than the sticks you have used in order to help fix my issue. I'd rather not have the interface from the left trigger
Yes on the part 2 video I added a mod I had done. After the part 2 video a company starting selling the modules with a sheet of tape. It’s still hit or miss right now. Some ally devices respond well to it, others not.
There have been some folks having issues with the right side as well. It seems to respond differently on some ally devices. I would suggest holding off unless you are wanting to experiment
I didn’t really notice anything. Even if there was, you could just calibrate them a small amount. If the fix works for the interference, it will help both ways of interference.
Yes, that’s what I was testing. Found sticks that work and found a way to make it work with some calibration. Next step will be to see if I can mitigate the interference
What I'd REALLY like even more than HAL sticks, is *shorter* sticks. Only handheld I've been playing on for years is a Switch. The amount of movement my thumbs have to do with the Ally is really high coming from that. I feel like I'm using two little arcade joysticks. The Ally sticks also have a really slim profile, so holding them towards any direction starts digging into my thumbs uncomfortably.
Hello. Thank you for the helpful video. I decided to order the Hall Effect sticks you have linked. However, OneXPlayer support is demanding I provide them with a serial number to clarify what sticks I need...I told them I wanted them for the Ally, but they are still asking for a serial number. @@okestgamerone thing you can look into and I've had this happen at my work at Siemens as a welder we use flash light so we can see where we weldin closed areas in the biggest problem that we run into at work is that the magnets we use on the flashlights so we can connect it to metal pieces while we weld interferes with the battery juice of a double A battery and so what I have found that works a little bit for blocking the magnetic interference is a nickel cap I looked it up on Google and it's a thing certain metals can block magnetism
How’s the stick resistance compared to stock? Coming from the Deck, I find the Ally’s sticks to be a bit loose for my liking. Also, how are you finding the fit of the stem to the cap? I heard the reason why some people are having clicking noises w the sticks is that the fit isn’t great w the stock thumb caps.
The feel is pretty well identical to stock. I couldn’t tell any difference. Clicking could be the cap, but a simple press down should fix that if it was.
It's a magnetic sensor input rather than potentiometer (physical sensor that detects a metal arm that moves against the sensor) Hall effect has less chance to drift due to less physical wear and tear at least on the sensor

Glad it worked out for the most part for you. Other have had mixed results
My left joystick is messed up, due to "no fault of my own" 😂, so this really helps. Trying to deal with CS on this device has been an absolute nightmare.
You could buy the cheaper one on AliExpress and it should fix it. Then you don’t have to deal with the interference
@@okestgamer my issue is actually that I believe something was bent. I go between a bunch of handheld devices and ended up finding this behind a couch cushion and ever since the left joystick forces the cursor to the left side of the screen. Vertical movement is fine, but horizontal is literally one-sided.
I wondered if the hall effect joysticks would interfere with the already installed hall effect triggers, thanks for confirming
No problem, now we try to fix it. We have 2/3 of the job done. Found the sticks, found out they work, now tweak to make it better.
I was just looking this video last night!
I actually just posted it about 4 hours ago
You’re really good at giving instructions!
Thank you! It makes me happy to hear that, I’ve been trying to get better at it
Hey OKestGamer, great tutorial dude!!!
you know, I ordered the 2 hall effects from the onexplayer site you attached to the description, but it been more than 4 days and they still haven't ship to the US, my order is confirmed but it been some days and nothing. Do you know if this is normal on that webpage? how was your experience ordering those hall effect joysticks??
thankss
We checked with the rep from onexplayer and it seems like they are processing them. I guess they got flooded with orders after the video
I don't even have an Ally but I like these tech tips.
Glad you’re enjoying them man!
Awesome video as always! Definitely going into my arsenal of handheld consoles how to videos! Thx so much!
Glad you enjoyed it 💪
Asus said they could only use Hall sensors for the sticks OR the triggers. I wish they had picked the sticks instead of the triggers because those sticks' internals look very similar to Switch joysticks
Yeah that would have been the better option tbh
I just placed the order and I’m gonna work on isolating the issue. Along with me doing the 4tb install this will be my second mod and I’ll continue to mod as new parts or methods come about.
That’s the nice part about having a community. You can brainstorm solutions
@@okestgamer absolutely, I bought it to mess with and I’ve always been that way and while it might not be everybody’s cup of tea , it does benefit some when workarounds come about.
Modding things is just a good time, so I totally understand
Perhaps using some magnetic shielding film applied on the bottom of the hall affect joystick
That’s my first plan. Hoping it blocks enough to make the interference a non issue.
Honestly just sounded like an excuse when I heard that. Real reason: save production costs
Let’s see if we can solve it!
This was my assumption. That or the potential failure rate of the sticks
@@okestgamer I've wondered if just putting some electrostatic tape on or around the joystick base would have any effect.
Great Vid! Copper tape should also isolate the magnets if you have that handy.
I have some coming on Monday. Let’s hope for the best
@@okestgamer - Great! Can't wait for the follow up!
@@ezg8448 yeah man, let’s hope it’s a positive follow up
I’m just worried that something that conducive may inadvertently fry something.
Yeah I believe a little bit of copper tape under the joystick would help interference and if you worried about it touching stuff, kapton tape on top of it
I’m doing this immediately! How does the tension/resistance feel compared to the OEM modules??
Feels the same as the stock ones
@@okestgamer So unplayable :/
I didn't know it wouldn't boot with the screws in. I got it to boot after forcing it off and back on again without the screws. I'm fortunate my stock sticks don't have any drift. At least we know ASUS excuse was true about the interference. I really look forward to a solution as I miss the hall sticks on my ayaneo.
I’m hoping I can fix it. We will see what happens soon.
What an amazing tutorial. I don't even have an Ally and I watched this lol.
Thank you! I try to keep them concise and to the point. Don’t want to waste people’s time.
Even if you just have the hall joystick on the right one only its still beneficial as FPS game player. That's whats making most of the fine movements anyway imo.
Yeah that’s a good backup option. I’m stubborn though and want to have my cake and eat it too lol
ROG Ally owner here, why is hall sticks needed? Either way, I loved the attention to detail in this video, so its a like and sub from me.
Thanks for your support. So the hall effect sticks don’t drift over time like the normal ones do. Unfortunately the interference causes issues as well. I did a part 2 where I fixed that, but it does not seem to work on all ally devices. I would hold off for now
When you can could please do a install video for the new heatsink on the ayaneo 2
The problem with the ally is that the sensor is directly behind the stick. It may not be an issue with the loki max
Ordered a pair with the hopes you guys find a fix, big thanks!
Lettuce pray we find one
Even if not, the current workaround doesn't seem bad at all, which is ultimately why I pulled the trigger regardless. That, and, perhaps stock? Once more people see this.
Yeah that’s fair. No idea what their stock situation looks like. I tried my best to find a few sources to sell the sticks, but no luck
I wonder if wrapping the back casing of joystick with little aluminium foil would help with resistance
There are a few other ways to add that type of resistance. You can add foam rings around the stick
The haptics might be the next problem 🤔 i feel like those are magnetic actuators and youd prob want to isolate them as well!
That’s a good idea, although I would imagine they would interfere with the trigger ones as they are
Hey OKestGamer, so I just got the Gulikit King Kong 2 Pro.. which has both hall effect triggers and joysticks. On the left joystick (right if you are looking at the back of the board) there is a metal shield on the back of the board where the joystick is... I wonder if you do the same thing if it would take away the issues you're experiencing.. Anyway, look into it if you haven't already!
Thanks, I’ll take a look to see what it’s about.
This is great, do they feel bit tighter to Hadley ?
They feel exactly the same
Hmm, you cant really block magnetic field but if you can find a way to redirect by a little this would work great.
I’m going to see if it helps out at all. Honestly at this point I’m just having fun experimenting
@@okestgamer yeah, I just placed an order. I'm really glad you tested this out. I kinda want try out to see if I can place mini mouse track pad on this next.
That’s an interesting idea. I’m curious how that would work
Thank you so much for the guide video and the website.
Not a problem, I do caution that you will need to experiment. Not all ally devices seem to respond the same.
Maybe some kind of aluminized tape behind the trigger sensor? Idk maybe there is some kind of way to isolate them from each other.
Check my community update on my TH-cam page. I managed to address the joystick interference. I’ll be doing a second video next week.
They are Hall effect so it should only activate when the magnet gets closer
easy to fix , seem good modular desain , thanks for desainer
Yeah they seem like they made it easy to fix
Talked me into it. I have ordered one for the right stick. I don't really care about the left
I’ve reduced the interference by 65% so far for the left stick. Still working on it.
Right stick is good to go so you should have a good experience
How did you get the right stick good to go? Would love it to operate same as original but ill take it over stick drift any day@@okestgamer
Yeah these need a little sheilding tape under each joystick to stop interference through the PCB underneath.
Yeah it seems to dampen the effect, but has not always shielded fully.
Now you got me wanting to try this, damn.
Do it! Do it now!
Cancel it.

Hopefully not, that particular stick has a bad reputation on other handhelds which makes me worry
I'm only looking for the rubber pieces do you know where I can find some as replacements good video for when I do decide to upgrade the joysticks
That I’m not sure, I think you would need to check with asus. They did have a site awhile back for spare parts, but cannot recall the link.
@@okestgamer OK thanks for the heads up!
No problem
I'm surprised that Asus doesn't make and sell these upgrades themselves as they have obviously gone to such lengths to make the rog ally easily upgraded.
Unfortunately a lot of ally devices have a lot of interference with the triggers
If you don’t know about the Hall effect ones I would suggest getting the ones in the AliExpress link instead. It will be the same as the ones your ally comes with
@@okestgamer I don’t think those are the official ones. I think the stock ones are ALPS RKJX21224001. But thank you, and I’ll bless you with this knowledge. Bios = power + volume down. @@rodrigogomezolmos6345my replacement stick just came in today, I followed the steps in the video, and now it works 👍🏻
Also as an aside onexplayer for some unknown reason decided to declare my 30usd order for 109usd and I got charged handsomely by customs … a very expensive exercise and hope onexplayer can resolve this
Yeah that’s pretty odd, there is no reason for that high of a declaration. I would email them to ask what happened
Very useful tuto !

Very OK guide, nice one!
Thanks man! Hoping I can solve the issue for the interference.
Job done.
That's fair, good news is this guide will work for regular swaps as well.
Modding is always a good time..until it’s not when it gets botched lol. I’m hoping this mod works out and we have no interference.
Mine came in with a film I have to sandwich between the joysticks and the board maybe to prevent interference
Yeah the ones from handheld diy come with it. It sometimes can help, but it’s hit or miss depending on the ally
My problem is when we ultimately get Linux support ala Chimeraos or Halo Os
Then we will have this Hall effect issue to deal with, not sure if we will have native dead zone calibration in Linux.
I know it's early but I don't think the stock sticks are going to present any issues over the years
Unfortunately these sticks have a bad history on other devices. If we can’t solve the interference, I definitely agree its best to stick with the stock ones.
Maybe a bit of copper tape under the joystick will isolate it?
Similar solution I’m going to test this week
What happen if i forget to disconnect the battery and change the sticks?
Most likely there will be no issue, it's just safer to disconnect the battery when changing parts.
Mr. Okest any chance you're going to do this mod with the win 4/win 4 pro?
I've heard talk in reddit that these hall sticks are compatible with the win 4. Also come october, gdp is going to release their deadzone software.
I'm probably gonna get the win 4 pro come Christmas sales and after review are out.
I am planning to, I’ve been a little behind on planned videos unfortunately, but I do know that they work. I would be curious how they work after the deadzone fix

No, I rarely buy warranty. If your sticks break and you don’t want Hall effect, you can buy the same stick as the ally for like $6 on alliexpress. Install is the same as this video

Yes you can use alps sticks instead of hakk effect. The video can double as a joystick replacement guide

There have been some folks having issues with the right side as well. It seems to respond differently on some ally devices. I would suggest holding off unless you are wanting to experiment

Does it interfere with the triggers? I heard reason why they didn’t put hall effect joysticks is because it interferes with the Hall effect triggers
I didn’t really notice anything. Even if there was, you could just calibrate them a small amount. If the fix works for the interference, it will help both ways of interference.

Damn. I want hall joysticks for my GPD win 4 but that's long lost at this point
Or is it? That’s on my list of videos. 99% positive it will work with no issue
My left analog register only go up and down with the old ones, I want to know if these hall effects joysticks will fix this?
I would recommend getting the non Hall effect sticks linked in the description. The Hall effect seems to be hit or miss on working.
Does this solve any of the cap wobble issues people are having? Or is it still a cap molding issue, regardless of actual stick.
I actually haven’t experienced that. The sticks stems are identical, so if I had to guess, people’s sticks weren’t full pressed down in the stems
Also, fantastic video overall. Highly concise and organized.
Well, I’m pretty sure the caps that come with the spare parts would work fine. They are shorter as well
Thank you! I’m trying to keep them concise, but with helpful info
They are considered medium size imagine if they would have been full size.
JoyCons just have small thumbstick, it's not standard. Ally has decent motion tbh
Whats the part number for the hall effect joysticks for those who want to buy elsewhere?
All we know is it’s made by k-silver. If you can find an elsewhere please share, I’ve been trying for a couple of months

However, OneXPlayer support is demanding I provide them with a serial number to clarify what sticks I need...I told them I wanted them for the Ally, but they are still asking for a serial number. I understand their sticks are supposed to be for their handhelds, but I'm at a lost. Did you have to go through this same thing and if so what did you reply to them with? Thanks in advance!

This is cool but the interference is a bummer. I think I'll replace with alps ones if mine ever drift.
It’s cheaper to do it that way as well. I’ll see if I can solve the issue of interference
That’s good to know. I’ll look into that as well
when I order hall effect they asked me "Please tell us your SN number to confirm your joystick version" which version is it to fit rog ally
You can let them know you need the onexplayer 2 Indiegogo version with Hall effect.
Do the joysticks feel more stiff than the originals?
Joysticks feel exactly the same. I would suggest trying some rings around the joystick. It’s a thin foam like material that adds some resistance
I really like the PS5 joysticks. How would you compare these joysticks to the PS5 controller?
They are definitely looser feeling, I would say they are not as good as a ps5 controller, but they seem to work well
What does hall effect mean?
It's a magnetic sensor input rather than potentiometer (physical sensor that detects a metal arm that moves against the sensor) Hall effect has less chance to drift due to less physical wear and tear at least on the sensor
Hall effect cannot drift, at all. Any drift is due to software/firmware, there is zero hardware corrosion.
Does the hall sticks have more resistance? I find the stock ones to be to soft
No they have the same resistance
Do you risk breaking the sd card in half when opening it?
Not with this unit. No issue
